Mel reaches the part of her pregnancy when her filter doesn't last the whole 12 hours of a shift. At some point, her exhaustion wins, and nice, kind and gentle Mel becomes a menace, but exclusively to clueless patients who rudely ask about her body like they have any claim to it:

"Are you pregnant?"

Then Mel, deadpan, answers "No, I'm just fat"

"When are you due?" "Oh, I'm not pregnant, I have a rare gut disease that makes me bloat like this"

"Are you expecting twins?" "Worse, quadruplets"

She usually lets the patients sweat in horror for a few minutes before confessing she was just kidding, but if she's specially tired, she won't, and someone, usually Frank, has to run damage control before the patient passes out from sheer embarassment.

"This is all your fault", Santos says, "Carrying your spawn made her absorb some of your shiny sarcastic personality. But honestly, she's a much more cuter menace than you"

Franks only sighs.
