my poor dad probably thought we were losing it
People act like Canada has the exact same level of manifestations of racism and racist sentiment as the US, that the brutality etc is the same — but it’s not. It’s the same *in what it is,* but PoC are treated bad here yet also far worse in the States. We can hold these things together. They’re not mutually exclusive. Compare asians being pushed and harassed for masks here vs literally shot in the US, the percentage of Black police deaths, etc etc. Just saying this for nuance’s sake. Thanks!

“White women and black men have it both ways. They can act as oppressor or be oppressed. Black men may be victimized by racism, but sexism allows them to act as exploiters and oppressors of women. White women may be victimized by sexism, but racism enabled them to act as exploiters and oppressors of black people. Both groups have led liberation movements that favor their interests and support the continued oppression of other groups. Black male sexism has undermined struggles to eradicate racism just as white female racism undermines feminist struggle. As long as these two groups or any group defines liberation as gaining social equality with ruling class white men, they have a vested interest in the continued exploitation and oppression of others.”

hannibal is so goddam funny imagine telling your therapist that you’re experiencing violent urges towards others and they’re like “god feels powerful when he kills people” or some shit
In the movie American Psycho, Christian Bale based the main character on a Letterman interview featuring Tom Cruise in 1999. When asked about the inspiration behind Patrick Bateman, he replied: “Tom Cruise on David Letterman had this very intense friendliness with nothing behind the eyes.”
Every day of my life I think about this fact. Every single day.
can we talk about how the myth of human progress is probably what lends to this idea that eventually things like racism will correct itself with time…because those people believe that humanity is on some natural upward trajectory towards good instead of realizing that no such thing exists and it’s within our hands to determine whether we as a society progress
