do you ever give your blorbo a certain trait—a preference, a quirk, a hobby—and then, years later, realise why they have it? four or five years ago, i wrote in the first chapter of i fear no fate (for you are my fate) that elentari 'finds peace in tending her garden, must stop to pick wild snowberries, and can't abide stories without happy endings'. now, i was literally just struck with the realisation of why she so dislikes stories without happy endings: because it makes her think too much of the way the lives of her parents and little sister were cut short. how theirs was an unhappy ending, while her story got to go on as she was resurrected. oh, ellie...
