“Uh-…” David starts to say, but before he’s giving a chance to actually reply to the others question, his eyes are darting around to look at his surroundings. They were no longer standing on Xavier’s campus, or at least he didn’t think they were. After a moment, he finally recognizes what he’s looking at. It’s a place he’s never actually been, but he remembers it from one of his text books back in school. “That is pretty cool,” he replies.

casper watched the other to see his reaction, he always wanted to know what people thought when they saw what he could do. “its not bad –– anywhere in particular you want to go?” he asked the boy, taking requests on what illusion he could create next.

Kurt stared in amazement at the giant mountain in front of him. He reached out to touch it and felt his hand go right through it. “That’s incredible! It looks so real!” He fiddled with the device on his wrist. “It’s so much better than anything my holoprojector could ever do.” He hadn’t actually used it much since he decided to embrace his mutation completely but once in a while when he left the campus it still came in handy. Most humans still thought he was a monster before they got to know him.

casper looked over at the blue man before chuckling. “well i would hope that it would be better than a projector.” he said with a smile. “this is from my head, whatever i see you see, although i’ve never actually seen mount everest, i have seen pictures.”

She saw the boy in class who had shown her something magical during lunch, but it wasn’t until he whispered to her that her fight or flight response spiked. She didn’t even know why, he had been cordial enough both times, but she was almost surprised, almost jumped, when he started speaking with that gross smile. She looked back distrustfully. “Well, you can’t see them right now. They’re mostly hidden, but…” she pushed her hair behind her ear. It was almost impossible to cover up her ears, so she left them natural. “Still pretty?” She jeered and rolled her eyes, expecting him to recoil like so many at her college had, teachers and students and bus mates and people in the halls, her own friends and roommates. “I guess you could poof them to normal.”

Although he had been kind enough earlier in the day, he didn’t have any physical traits. A lot of people here didn’t, she was sad to realize. And while she was still new to the “mutant life,” and he obviously could control his powers, she felt envious of an ability where you didn’t get migraines, didn’t feel like you were seeing into people’s heads, without the full context. When she was younger, she’s thrown up after going to a crowded mall on the weekend. Her mom was so sure she’d been bulimic, but Robin feared the taste of bile in her throat as much as foreign emotions running through her head. She’d only had a few boyfriends in her life, too busy pushing people away because of her mutation. But she’d already felt heartbreak, betrayal, love, revenge. All from strangers. And she hated it.

In short, she felt inferior after a long day of introductions and looking out the windows for her mom’s car (scared she’d come back and make a fool of herself and Robin to her new classmates, people she needed to build a life with now).

the man couldn’t help but smile when the girl moved her hair behind her ears, revealing their natural look. “even prettier.” he said truthfully. “just because you look different to the rest of us doesn’t mean anything other than the fact that you are unique and i like unique.” casper wasn’t the kind of guy that was usually good with words but he wanted robin to feel safe, like she was accepted here.

“you may look different on the outside but i’ve been told that its what’s inside that matters and from what i know so far whats inside you is pretty incredible.”

“Then I guess I should already start calling you, my hero, huh?” Jem chuckled as he stared at the boy. “Granted, I’m only 5′4 and pretty dorky looking, but thank you. I think you’re one of the best looking guys this school could have.”

“well i wouldn’t hate it.” he said with a soft smile. “the shorter the cuter in my opinion.” the boy chuckled as he listened to the other. “surely not.”

“Yeah, that makes sense,” she shrugged, but her attention was still at the mountain. It looked so real. But when he continued talking she figured she should turn towards him. His cheeks were turning pink from the cold outside, she noticed.

“I don’t even think I’ve accepted it,” she said softly. “It’s cool that you can control it though. Doesn’t seem like a bad thing to have, let’s hope you’re not corrupt?”

capser smiled before looking back at the girl. he noticed the slight blush on her cheeks before shrugging off his jacket and gently placing it over her shoulders. “i like the cold so you can have this.” the boy said before nodding. “well as far as i know i’m not corrupt, lets hope it stays that way.”

The teacher asked her to stand in front of the class and tell them about herself, so she stood rigidly and looked at all the strangers’ faces. “Yeah, I’m Robin. I… can’t control my powers. A few years back I got these weird ridges on my nose and forehead and… Well, I’m used to covering it up, hence the makeup,” she gestured to her normal-looking skin, the ridges only visible if you stood up close. “My mom… you know how they can be,” she blushed and pushed the hair out from her eyes, and could feel her irregular skin under the concealer. “So yeah. I don’t know what it is to ‘be’ a mutant. Just… got headaches, a friend saw the commercial for this place, I dropped out of Haverford, and voila. I hope I can… feel comfortable in my own skin in due time,” she said quietly. Her anxiety was soaring from the vulnerability, but she knew she wouldn’t always don her makeup and wig, so if everyone was aware she could look like a freak at any time then maybe she wouldn’t get stares. She didn’t even know what to expect, but suspected school everywhere was always the same (in regards to? bullying? she couldn’t even fathom everything at the moment, she could barely think straight, but she was grateful her mother didn’t insist on showing her around campus on her first day).

She suddenly hoped there were no telepaths (if that was even a thing) in the room. Her eyes widened after she silently called herself a freak and peered around the room.

casper smiled as he saw the familiar girl standing up in front of the class. it was clear to see that she was nervous, hell he wasn’t a fan of doing speeches either. the boy listened carefully as robin spoke before waiting for her to come back and sit down to say something. the man leant over to her chair which was conveniently next to his before speaking. “to be honest – i like the ridges, they’re cute.” he said to her before smiling softly and sitting back upright in his chair, waiting for the rest of the class to be over.

“If I run up to it, I’ll hit face first into the side of the building. I can… look at it from here. Does it strain you?” She reached her arm out and ended up brushing his fingers. “Ok, so you’re not an illusion. You really look like this?” She sighed. “I don’t know what to believe at this school. It feels like a dream, but I haven’t decided if it’s good or bad yet. I want to think it’s good, magical maybe, but I’ve heard about fights and I can’t imagine… trying to face off with someone who could throw a building on my head.”

“yeah and that probably wouldn’t be a smart idea.” he said with a soft smile before looking down at her hand that brushed against his. “the longer i hold it for and the more people that i want to see it the more tired i get.” casper stated before smirking slightly. “you make it sound like my looks are a bad thing.” the boy said before nodding. “yeah i was told about the fight that happened here recently, pretty bad one too – makes you wonder if they’ll ever accept us.”

Kevin opened his mouth to reply with a sneer or swear, but a teacher caught his eye and shook their head. Kevin frowned and slid out of the chair. “I’ll take the light one,” he bent over and grabbed a cardboard box. Not that one. He switched to the other one, black gloves snug over his hands. “Lead the way,” he said. “Wait, no. There’s an elevator down there.” He would be dead by the time they made their way upstairs he knew.

casper rolled his eyes slightly when the other opted for the lighter box, even though they were almost the same weight. “well you lead the way to the elevators because i didn’t know there were any.”

“Damn,” Bobby breathed out. “That’s impressive.” He looked at the snowy mountain top, his fingers nearly twitching with how much he wanted to be around snow. Sure, New York got snow. But he wanted to be somewhere with more. “Pretty cool power,” he told the other.

“Sorry to burst this on you, but this school pretty much gets attacked so frequently people make bets on how long till the next one is. It’s funny, but dangerous.” Jem smiled. “Yeah, I do. You’re really good looking.”

“well with all the mutants here i’m sure that we can handle a few attacks, plus if i’m involved they wont even know where the school is –– they could think that they’re walking into a shopping if i want them too.” he said with a soft chuckle before racking his fingers through his hair. “you aren’t so bad yourself.”

Jude startled suddenly at the voice beside him - he had been searching through a folder for an old paper, when the older, taller male had stepped beside him, and he hadn’t noticed his presence until now. His eyes widened upward towards the unknown male, before promptly lowering his gaze. “Um, I - o-okay.” He was nervous, but never one to turn another person down, even if it seemed safer to do so.

He noticed the boy’s hand rise up to the large courtyard ahead of them, and allowed his eyes to follow, not ready for what he was about to see. Jude’s small figure was dwarved further by the sudden formation of a mountain. He gaped for a moment, eyes still wide, this time in pure awe. “Th… did you do that?” He asked shyly, clutching to the notebooks in his arms for dear life. “That’s-that’s amazing.” He smiled gently, eyes tracing over the rock and rubble, still in disbelief over the image in front of them. “Is that- um, is-is that real?” His voice was quiet as he finally ripped his gaze from the mountain to the other boy, though not meeting his eyes directly.

capser chuckled when he saw the boys reaction, it was almost as if he’d made the boys whole day better. “its pretty cool isn’t it.” he said with a smile as he looked out at the mountain. casper looked down at the the boy before looking back. he used to loved seeing things like this when he was a kid, when he would use his power it always brought him joy.

“i did do that.” casper stated as he moved his hand slightly and brought the mountain a little closer. “its real in here.” he said before tapping on his head. “whatever i see in my mind i can make others see.”

Robin knew she could be gullible, but this was a mutant school and the chance of this cute boy showing her his pecker was slimmer than perhaps a ‘normal’ school. “Um, sure?” Nonetheless, she stood in a defensive stance in case he tried to do something tricky, even going so far as to put her fists slightly above her waist in case of an attack she probably watched too many movies.

When his hand went up to the air and not to her, she let the tension dissipate in her muscles and studied his face, wondering what on earth he was doing. He changed his position and she turned her gaze with him. “Oh my– What! It’s… Where’d the school go? The trees the…” Her eyes were wide with wonder and bewilderment. “You’re not straining yourself,” she said looking back at the stranger. “So either you… are really strong, or this is all fake. I can’t touch it can I?”

Robin was learning a little bit from the first week of her being at the school, and was surprised her intuition was helping her in this instance. “It’s pretty though,” she mentioned finally.

casper couldn’t help but chuckle at the girls reaction. he’d seen a few people react that way before and it always made him laugh. “the schools still there, just hidden.” casper said before nodding at her question. “you can try and touch it.” he said before he reached his own hand out to touch it, instead his hand just disappeared through the mirage.

Your power has so much purpose, and it could save so many in the field of battle.” Jem backtracked feeling as if he was getting ahead of himself. “Sorry, even as a mutant I think having powers is really awesome. I mean in the long you could show me anything, but nothing will beat just being able to see your face.”

“yeah i guess it could help in a battle – i’ve never really thought of that.” he stated as he looked out at the mountain. “i’ve only ever used it for myself, and a few select people.” casper raised a brow before chuckling. “you like my face?”

“want to see something cool ??” casper asked the person standing next to him before raising up his hand and closing his eyes. caspers ability was image manipulation, also know as illusion casting. basically he could make people see what he wanted them to see. the man faced out to grassed area on campus before making them see mount everest in front of them, something he’d always wanted to visit.

“some would call it a holiday –– i call it a ignorance day considering we are celebrating something not so great.” casper stated as he looked over at the girl.
