        Quite a flirt, wasn’t she? Although it wasn’t very new for her to experience something like this, she was pushing through trying. There were plenty of reasons to keep Emerald around, her semblance being a great asset to Salem. But what good is a lowly assassin who clearly isn’t even the best fighter in her ranks. Mercury knew his place and it wasn’t here.

“You know there’s no going back from this? If Salem finds us, we’re dead. And even if we do escape the authorities will want us in jail or dead.” He needed to know Emerald wouldn’t have a change of heart halfway through. If she harbored any doubt then Merc would be better off on his own. But it’s not like he wanted to leave her here alone.

The two were surely in a conflict either way. They escape--alive or dead--or remain beside Salem following her orders with their lives. It wasn’t like Emerald to be this indecisive, to take such caution when all she was before as a thief. Thieves throw caution to the wind after all. But this...it was sad enough yes but...she did considered Cinder to be family. Or at least thought about it once. Just someone she was closed to, but Cinder kept them around to do her bidding. 

And since she is really gone, having little to no care about neither her nor Mercury, what was the point? She didn’t sign up for this world domination. Escape...was sounding pretty good about now. “...You know what? You’re right. There’s nothing left for us here.” She stood, her hands balled into fists as she barred her teeth. 

“I should have realized...there wasn’t a reason for my being here--for doing this. I never figured it was going to lead us to this crap.”
