When Ren heard that Pyrrha was alive, that she’d survived the Fall of Beacon, he’d been almost unable to believe it as he’d immediately run back to Vale to see Pyrrha in the infirmary for himself. And yet, as he stood in the doorway of the infirmary, there she was in the bed. She seemed to be healing well, and that was a huge relief-he didn’t think he could handle losing anyone else he cared about, especially not so brutally.

According to the doctors, there was no irreversible physical damage.

He blinked as she limped from the bed, practically dragging her casted leg behind her, forgoing the crutches. He wanted to tell her that it was a bad idea, that he’d come to her and that she should stay in bed and keep recovering, but before he could do any of those things she was already out of the bed and coming towards him rather rapidly for someone with a casted leg.

So he did the only thing he could do in this scenario and met her halfway. He wasn’t used to affection like a lot of his classmates and his own friends seemed to be, but people he cared about were an exception, so he didn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around her waist and hold her close. All her weight on him was dragging him down a little, but he didn’t care. All he cared about was that she was okay, that she was here and hugging him, and likely going to make a full physical recovery. So he hugged her a little more snugly, relishing the feel of her cheekbone against his, her body warm against his. It had nothing to do with romantic feelings whatsoever, and everything to do with his relief that she was alive.

“I came as soon as I heard.” He murmured. “I’m just sorry it took me this long.”
