Those things weren't genocide. That is not what that means.

Also, complaining -

i) That they didn't depict her being brutal enough

and then also complaining

ii) That they didn't punish her enough, for the brutality you just complained she didn't do

- is incoherent, isn't it?

It doesn't make much sense when it's laid out like that, does it? No.

If a story didn't show you somebody behaving like a brutal fascist dictator, and then didn't treat her as if she had been a brutal fascist dictator, then the takeaway isn't "they were bad at depicting her as a fascist dictator".

It's that you're not supposed to think she was a fascist dictator.

This is not to say she didn’t do some very ugly authoritarian things, or wasn't complicit in a wider, more terrible system.

While it is worth noting she saw The Grey plan as a better alternative to the kind of bloodbath Salo wanted, it is what it is, and she's responsible for it.

But you've got to engage with the actual story that happens, on its own terms, rather than rating it on how faithful it is as an adaptation of your headcanon.
