Look, it’s a weird hill to die on, especially when I don’t really explain, but children deserve to experience fear, disgust, and discomfort in safe scenarios where they can process those sensations.
Media for children used to be scary and that’s important.
“Since it is so likely that (children) will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. Otherwise you are making their destiny not brighter but darker.” ― C.S. Lewis
"Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed."
-- G. K. Chesterton
I do think the ability to emoji-react is a net win for human communication. not only does it give you an outlet for 'I see and acknowledge this but don't have a verbal response' but it also adds a pleasing alethiometer element to things
my coworker announces that he's off to the dentist. someone reacts with a tooth emoji. is this a statement of dentist solidarity? a wish for my coworker to return with more (or fewer?) teeth than he set out with? simple word association? who can say

I’m only 28 and it feels a million times better than 23. I can’t wait to see what 30 feels like. Becoming an older woman is filled with internal validation, an inner calm, a recognition of patterns. I am not perfect but I accept myself despite it.
My life has only gotten better since I turned 30 (not necessarily the state of the world, obviously), my internal sense of self and security in who I am and who I want to be.
I will note, while a lot of this is fully the process of aging - parts of your brain finishing cooking and all that - it's also the result of a lot of very purposeful work on myself (THERAPY!). So yeah, look forward to aging, but also remember you are always in a state of growth and therefore deserve care & attention.
people without any whimsy scare me. why are you like that. where are your trinkets.
