Daughter of Demeter and Goddess of the Underworld
The story of Persephone is one of my favorites from the Greek mythology. Daughter of Demeter, goddess of harvest, kidnapped by God of the Underworld. After her disappearance, her mother became sad and depressed, naturally, she's a good mom, killing crops and wreaking havoc in nature. Zeus negotiates with Hades for the return of her daughter but Persephone cannot leave, as she got a little hungry and ate some pomegranate seeds from the Underworld.
Hades is quite strict, and so, he agrees to let her go back to her mother for only 6 months and has her return to the Underworld for the rest of the year.
My favorite part of the story : It is believed that the 6 months when the crops grow and flowers bloom, Summer and Spring, are when Persephone and her mother rejoice and that Winter and Autumn are when Persephone returns to the Underworld.
