What emotional impact has researching the case had on you?
Sorry for the wait. The case itself is truly harrowing; sometimes I find it hard to imagine that someoneβa guy who looked so "normal"βcould have done all that in such a small apartment. I sometimes wonder, "Did all that really happen?" It makes me sad that so many young lives were lost (including Jeff's). It could have been preventedβlike when the Steven Hicks incident occurred and Jeff was heading to the dump to dispose of the "trash bags." The police stopped him, asked where he was going, and that was it (another police failure; if they had detained him right then, perhaps further murders could have been avoided). The police back then were useless (much like today). Itβs also sad that a man like Jeffβfrom an upper-middle-class American background, with a family (dysfunctional, sure, but still his family), physically healthy, and reportedly of above-average intelligenceβcommitted such horrific acts. He could have done anything he wantedβbecome an actor, a model, a businessman, etc.βbut he cut his own life short; he threw it all away himself. Itβs a tragedy how his life and the lives of those other young men ended. The whole case makes me very sad; I feel terrible for everyone involved π...
