For my fellow bulgarian followers. On 4th of February we are gonna get a new edition of the Eye of the World with new cover. (20 years after the first release) Yeah, they got the rumours about the tv series and decided to get on the hype train for a new cash cow.

As The Wheel of Time does not belong to me, I like to be careful about what I do and say with it. I donāt want to overstep my bounds. But for those who havenāt been paying attention, this series has progressed into a full-blown green light at Amazon Studiosāwith actual episodes being written and filming soon starting.
I donāt know what role, if any, Iāll have in this. Like I said, I like to be respectful of Team Jordan. Itās not my place to try to muscle in and pretend Iām in charge. At the same time, I do think I could offer something to the production, and the showrunner (who is quite sharp) has reached out to me multiple times for conversations about the adaptation. Iām impressed with everything I see, and hope to at the very least be able to pop over to the set when filming happens and grab some photos for you all.
For most of my own properties, Iād say to not hold your breath. I think theyāll happen eventually, but you shouldnāt start to get hyped up until Step Five happens for something. Well, weāre past Step Five with the Wheel of Time, and you can officially begin to feel hyped. Itās actually happening, and it looks great so far.

I donāt know for certain when it will be available to watch, but Iām very confident itās going to get filmedāand likely sometime this year. Thereās no guarantee it will be good, but the show runner is very good, and knows the series really well. Every sign Iāve seen is positive, and Iāve been through the wringer a few times on Hollywood projects, so I think Iām starting to be able to spot when something is looking good or not.

Fun fact, and I have no clue if this was intentional or not, but Rand is German for edge/border/rim... which fits rather well. Makes me wonder how many other naming things slip past English readers.
Oh I like that one! I know absolutely no German, so thanks for pointing that out. It is rather fitting, intentional or otherwise.
Some of my own favourites (in terms of interesting translations, rather than the numerous references to various mythologies):
Elan Morin Tedronai: Ć©lanĀ is French forĀ āimpetusā orĀ āmomentumā
Lanfear: this one took me an absurdly long time to work out because the spelling changes the pronunciation enough that it didnāt immediately register, but Iām pretty sure this is meant to be a play on lāenfer. Which means Hell.
Telāaranārhiod: telaraƱaĀ isĀ āspiderwebā in Spanish. A world that is woven through all other worlds, along the weave of the Patternā¦and the Forsaken with the greatest proficiency in the world of dreams isā¦the Spider. (I think itās more likely that the name TelāaranārhiodĀ comes from Arianrhod, a figure in Welsh mythology, but that almost just makes this better because itās such an appropriate name on multiple levels)
Cauthon: okay this isnāt a translation butĀ change one letter to its alphabetical adjacent and you getĀ ācautionā. This strikes me as rather hilarious.
International/multilingual readers, what other fun naming things have you noticed?
Does it count as interesting when a name is changed because it has meaning on the translated language?Ā
According to legend, the bulgarian translator changed the name of Tam alāThor toĀ āTramā asĀ ātamā meansĀ āhereā on bulgarian language and the translator didnt want to translate phrases like āTam is t/hereā intoĀ āHere is t/hereā. :D
