Orca bull with his tall and erect dorsal fin breaks through the waves with the magnificent snow-capped Mount Kirkjufell in the background.
This is what a healthy and well-fed orca looks like!
NGOS photographed this young whale, likely from AJ pod, earlier in September. They report that orcas in many pods are looking chubby and healthy. This, combined with the abundance of salmon this year and the extended resting behavior of the whales this season, leads them to believe the whales are eating well and are in good shape.

Beautiful Habitats [1/?]
Mystic Marine Life Aquarium’s Arctic Coast
Built in 1999, this habitat was made to resemble the arctic coast where belugas are often found. Interesting aspects of this exhibit include very large open-air UV windows, a shallow water “beach” area and the incorporation of flora into the rock work. There are three pools in this habitat: a main pool that reaches 16 feet deep, a side pool and a med pool. In all this habitat costed $52 million when it was first built and contains 750,000 gallons. Currently it houses three beluga whales.
Hey. Hey you guys. LOOK AT THIS TURTLE. His name is Pokey and he’s pretty much the most adorable little Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle I’ve ever seen.
I need to get a good shot of his face, because he has the most precious little cartoon turtle face in the whole wide world. His shell is a little funky right now, but that’s why we handle him once a week to show it some extra love.
I can’t wait until I’m on our sea turtle permit and can actually feed/do medical treatments for him 😍
