The room smelled of a musk; angst and sweat. The soft smokey smell of weed drifted through the venue. It was warm and your body was hot to the touch, people bumped against you and swayed gently to the music.
“Up into the bright light. I sure hope there ain’t no next life”
God he looked so beautiful up there… Cameron held onto the microphone, his voice was deep and wanting. The other members were playing beautifully, the music brought you into a trance.
You were lost in the crowd.
“Mm hah.. this will be our last song of the night..” His voice cracks into the microphone, the crowd responded with a shroud of sighs and a hunger for more.
Your eyes trailed over him.
“Baby you can change and still choose me”
As you watched, his eyes were closed. He was lost in song.
“you can be free just come home please”
His eyes opened, his gaze falling onto the crowd.
Your heart stopped as his eyes locked with yours.
A smile grew on his lips.
His eyes narrowed as the last lyric was sung.
The sound of your heart beating through your chest rung through your ears, it blinded out the cheers as the band members left the stage.
There was an after party that you were unsure about going to. Your heavy breathing and shaky stance made it clear that a party was too much for you right now. “I need a cigarette” you hushed underneath your breath. Your gaze locked to the floor as you walked to the exit. A cool breeze of air hit your face as you left the building. Looking up into the sky you watched clouds slowly float by the glowing moon, the sight eased your racing mind. You dug your fingers into your pockets for a cigarette, you ended up grasping at nothing. Whatever.
You watched as your feet guided you to the back of the building they had preformed in. It was an old bar made of rough brick, its dingy windows were softly lit. You had found a ladder that led to the roof. You placed a foot on its first step, as you were closer to the building you could see the moss that faintly grew upon its walls.
Step by step you had climbed up to the roof of the building… Blindly you walked over to a pleasing corner and sat down. Really you were in a haze. You were no longer a mess, unable to breathe out of amazement, rather you were still left in an oneiric state. The entirety of the evening felt like a dream. You sat alone accompanied with the night sky that floated by patiently. As it got darker you were beginning to become unsure how long it has been. Your soft breaths started to lull you into slee-..
“May I join you?” The deep voice shook you awake, quickly you turned around and saw him.
Cameron shifted, his head hung low. He was wearing the same white tank top from earlier. It hung low, his collar bones and chest hair crept out. He stood tall across from you, it seemed he was noting everything about you.
“Sure.” you responded with a crack in your voice. He found it cute, the way you sat there with wide eyes in a state of shock.
He walked towards you, “You a fan?” he teases with a grin, now sitting down beside you. Of course you were, he could tell by the way your eyes lit up when you first saw him.
Your cheeks turn red in embarrassment. “So what if I am?” you choked out. His smile grew wider, he liked this, the way he teased you. “I saw you during the show.” His voice dripped like honey, “You stand out, you know that?”. Your breath cut short, what was there to say? This man you were completely enamored with is now sitting next to you, complimenting you… noticing you. “You’re one to say.” He locks eyes with yours, “What do you mean?” … “Seeing you on stage, I was left captivated. I felt like if I looked at you a second longer my heart would let go. You were comparable to an angel up there.”
Your praise hit Cameron in chest, it made him ache. “You’re too much of a sweetheart. Im no more than a man.”. You cried in protest to his words, “Fine, if not an angel, like you say, a man. But a man that knows what he’s doing; more than what anyone else does”.
The two of you grew silent, a silence that spoke more than your words could ever. The company of one another was sufficient enough.
“Is it alright if I smoke?” Cameron hummed. “Yeah thats fine.” you reply softly.
He pulls a cigarette from his pocket, chasing after a lighter. He lights it and takes a inert hazy puff. The silence grew heavy with the smoke. Slowly one of Camerons hands moved towards yours. Your fingers gently interlaced. His hands were big, their warmth held plush against yours.
“Do you want..?” he gestured towards the cigarette, you nodded, taking it from his hand; placing it to your lips.
“Id like to get to know you.” He whispers, looking you into the eyes. “Would you like that?”. You took the cigarette away from your lips and smiled. “Yes I would.”
