Project Hail Mary is just a delightful book, and encapsulates so many things that i love about scifi. It delights in science, it delights in people who love science. It delights in the idea of 'what if you met a being so, so fundamentaly different from you, yet you are bound together in friendship through your shared love of science and natural curiosity and love, that will save both of your home planets'. It's a book that says, you too, would die for your new alien best friend, even if they looked like a giant rock spider and had no eyes and breathed ammonia. And it's delightful

It makes me sad to admit, but Grace living with Rocky on Erid is much better than the other way around. I don't think humanity as a whole would have treated Rocky the way the Eridians treated Grace.

I was so afraid that this would happen! Or that the last chapter would be human expedition coming to Erid that would result in them kidnapping some Eridians to experiment on.

If Grace and Rocky went to Earth instead there’s no way they would get the hospitality the Eridians provided. Best case scenario (for Rocky) he would’ve died because humans wouldn’t be able to get him the things he needs to live, worst case scenario - he’d be experimented on until his death. There is no way they would just let him live like Sandy Cheeks on Earth.
