The transformed iMac took up this issue's cover. I'd already bought a more economical G3 iMac that year, but two years after that I did happen to find a G4 iMac being sold used through my company's internal classifieds and moved up to a flat-panel display and DVD burning. One small news item inside mentioned iPods were already being put in third-party cases to protect their shiny metal backs, and the regular interview talked to Jef Raskin, who had started a project at Apple in the early 1980s to create an easy-to-use computer code-named "Macintosh" only for Steve Jobs to elbow him out, and had been complaining ever since that his own interface paradigms hadn't been implemented.
