MUSIC: Time After Time

The practice was going well, yet, something felt different. 

The sounds of their steps echoed with the music that bounced off the walls. Each step was carefully planned, skirt lifting with each turn. Each pull towards him or push away felt weightless. Nothing but the music playing was all they needed to communicate and give cues. She didn’t worry if she was going to fall, or if she was going to trip over herself during complicated steps. Coming back from a spin, her hands rest lower than where she’s supposed to place them. 

Yet, Lumine couldn’t help but think: Was Dainsleif always this attentive? Did he always look so… warm? No, that’s not the right word to express the emotion on his face. She’s lost, letting him take full control of what she’s doing. Not realizing she’s reciprocating what she’s seeing.

Dance was an art that he took seriously, it was a matter he likened much to a fight from the days when he was doing far less savory things than acting as a teacher. A single misstep could ruin an entire number, and even if one carried each movement perfectly--If there was no feeling, then the dance was lost. Striking that perfect balance was a matter that Dainsleif took pride in.

“--You look preoccupied. What is it?”

His low voice finally breaks the silence even as he continues to effortlessly lead them in this lesson of swing, expression quite level as one hand rests on her lower back.
