WOMAN TWEETING: girls go to college to get more knowledge 😁 boys go to Jupiter to get more stupider 😝
MAN RETWEETING: And women wonder why men abuse and kill women. Pretty telling, isn’t it?
ELON MUSK, REPLYING: Fascinating
So many beautiful unique interesting people in this world and you have to figure out how to interact with them like you’re a human being and not a little naked gray alien sent to live amongst humans as an experiment
Hi. Things are bleak, I know that. I know that we paid for Trump's last term with blood and it is likely the price will be blood again.
But listen to me. LISTEN.
You do not have to force yourself to witness horrors as an act of activism. It is not a form of activism. You can put your phone down, you can block that horrific video. We cannot win if you cannot fight and you will not be able to fight if you are hopeless.
Do not let them guilt you into this. People who are exhausted are easier to walk over. Take care of yourself, find community where you find joy.
You do not have to force yourself to witness horrors as an act of activism. It is not a form of activism.
^^^ remember this. do not exhaust yourself into hopelessness. take care of yourself and stay strong.
I know I've recced it before, but if you want a place to monitor the news while avoiding getting caught in the horrors, What The Fuck Just Happened Today is a really useful resource. They summarize political (& adjacent) news so you can remain aware of what's going on while still minimizing the emotional energy you expend on any one issue. (And they provide links and sourcing if you need to know more.)
common myths about migraines (AKA if you get headaches regularly, please seek treatment for migraines)
"i don't have migraines because while i get them several times a week, it's only when i am hungry or dehydrated."
those are probably migraines. thirst, hunger, sleep disturbances, or any disruption to routine are common migraine triggers.
"my headaches are specifically barometric related, i get them when the weather/altitude changes."
those are probably migraines. barometric pressure is a common migraine trigger.
"i get headaches all the time but ibuprofen gets rid of them so they can't be migraines."
that's not true. ibuprofen works great at relieving migraine pain for many people.
"my consistent headaches are tension headaches. i feel them originate in my neck/shoulders."
those are probably migraines. muscle tension is a common migraine trigger.
if you are regularly getting headaches (once a week or more), you are likely getting migraines. in fact, a good rule of thumb if you're consistently getting headaches is to treat them as migraines until you can rule out migraines. that's how common "chronic headache = migraine" actually is.
migraines are a neurological disorder wherein pain is one symptom. pain is often the MAIN symptom, and the most noticeable symptom, which can make diagnosis tricky. other symptoms of migraine include:
fatigue
nausea/vomiting
digestive issues
visual disturbances (auras)
sensitivity to light and/or sound
mood changes
brain fog/cognitive changes
ringing in the ears
dizziness/vertigo
numbness/weakness on one side of the body
this list is NOT complete, but is a starting point. i really like the comparison to a hangover. if you generally feel hungover when you get a headache (without having consumed alcohol), that's a classic migraine presentation.
so many people suffer from migraine and don't even know it, so they aren't able to advocate for themselves to get treatment. there are great new migraine treatments on the market! if you're able, please seek treatment for your migraines. a better quality of life is possible.

wow! as a broke college kid, i wish there was a way to access books and movies as well as scientific articles that the new administration isn't necessarily a fan of. man. If only there was a free and trusted vpn ( up to 10 gigs of downloadable data) to use in conjunction with an anonymizing router (also free up to 10 gigs) to safely, er, permanently borrow media in an untraceable way as well as share files. Man, what's that browser that keeps your online activity anonymous? I'm awfully attached to firefox, personally. If only i had a browser extension that would throw a smoke screen over my browsing data while blocking ads at the same time.
what was i talking about? hmm. weird.

clean water is such a luxury that we tend to take for granted.
i found out that wild animals can drink dirty water only because they've been acclimated to its contaminants since birth. because of this, any changes in the water can cause outbreaks of severe illness. animals raised on clean water would have just as much trouble with wild water as we would.
anyway, unrelated but Fuck Nestle
Nestle has done so much to the water it's actually hard for me to find specific sources because there's so many. when you google 'nestle water' the first autocomplete suggestion is 'nestle water scandal' and you'll get articles dating back to 2016 just on the first page.
the gist is that Nestle is a mega conglomerate and essentially a water monopoly. they've been known to buy land containing natural water springs and restrict access to that water from the locals, only to sell it back to them at an inflated price.
in the 1970s, nestle was exposed for causing the deaths of many infants in third world countries due to their baby formula marketing practices. they would offer free two week trials of their formula to struggling mothers, who of course would take the offers for some relief and convenience. unfortunately, two weeks is just long enough for a mother to stop producing milk if she isn't breastfeeding, which would force them into buying more formula once the trial was over. on top of buying the formula, they would also be forced to buy nestle's overpriced water or risk using contaminated water to mix the formula with.
nestle also owns almost all the local brands of water in the united states. they also own companies like loreal and purina. it's incredibly difficult to boycott them for this reason. purina is also said to be causing illness and death in many pets, and has recalled one of their dry dog food options at least once
here's a list of the companies and brands nestle owns. they are large and wealthy enough to afford their own private militia and form a sovereign country if they wanted to. the article also lists some more of their controversies.
so yeah, Fuck Nestle
A collection of some of my more spooky art too match the Halloween mood. The first skull painting is of a moose skull (if I remember correctly) so a bit of a departure from my usual horse stuff.
Adding to the spooky collection.
this was a good picture tbh
