“Wait a moment, wait a moment...is this the way to town?”
Me: *sees one gifset of Merlin*
Merlin: *waves sheepishly*
Me: *IMMEDIATELY STOPS WHAT I'M DOING* HO SHI-

&&MERLIN::
Merlin frowned, breaking into a smile of disbelief. “I’m…not sure that’s quite the word I would use, my lady.” he replied with a small shake of his head. It was definitely not the word he’d use. Although, had it not been for Merlin’s suspicion and understanding of the woman, he might have been flattered to think she thought him sweet.
Long && lithe fingers steeple below an inclined chin, pensive && JUDGING. Dark depths bare down slightly, gaze sharp. Daring to defy words of her own, scorned in the slightest to be questioned. Tones discordant, poignant to a fault. Closed lipped, a smile is barely worthy of a title.
“What word would you use then, hm?”
Merlin shook his head, a modest smile gracing his pale lips. “I don’t know...” he admitted in airless tones, looking at his feet. “Admirable, perhaps?” More like foolish. Merlin’s loyalty was something that, more often than not, got him into enormous trouble.

Running through the stone halls with her, he led her down into the underground sanctums of the Palace. Once they were safely tucked around a corner, he knelt to pick up two stones and approached an unlit torch. With several flicks of the flints, a spark ignited a fire which illuminated the dark passageway where they were hidden. Turning to face her as she spoke, he listened closely, his eyes casting down to the ground.
After a moment, he took a deep breath and knelt on the dusty ground in front of her. “What you were saying before,” he began in hushed tones. “Before the knights came into the castle…that you have these…abilities. Why did you tell me? I’m Arthur’s manservant, how do you even know you can trust me with a secret like this?” It had vexed Merlin since she’d confided in him.
Evangeline looked to Merlin, she gave a small smile at his question. “Because I know you wouldn’t rat me out” She replied giving a small shrug of her shoulders “I tend to have a good judge of character and anyway if you were to tell Arthur you would have done it by now. I know I took a risk in telling you but it is something I have kept a secret from everyone for so long” She admitted “You seem like you do this often? Sneaking around?”
Merlin was still surprised she’d trust him so fast, if not suspicious. In previous experience, those he’d been quick to trust had betrayed him or at least intended to. That was why he kept his talents a secret at all times, only reluctantly admitting to them either in times of crisis or intimate confidence. He only nodded to her.
As she asked him if he sneaked around often, he gave a weak smile. “I just know the halls well...” he assured her in a breath. It was a very unconvincing lie, but all he had to cement his reasoning.
Matilda Jones, aged seven, was paddling waist-deep in Dozmary Pool on Bodmin Moor when she came across the blade
Well, looks like Matilda Jones, aged seven, is the new ruler of Great Britain sorry I don’t make the rules.

With a quick nod and a smile, Merlin returned to observing the clothes that needed folding. He knew that, if he didn’t return them to Arthur’s chambers soon, there would be consequences. Where the King was concerned, nothing was completed quick enough for him. Beginning to turn another shirt sleeve into the middle of the back, he heard the sound of urgent footsteps echoing down the corridor and looked up.
“Percival,” he said, placing down the shirt and looking the exhausted Knight over. “What is it?” When he explained himself, his look of confusion morphed into deep alarm. “Why, what’s happened?” He cast a glance between Evangeline and Percival and nodded. “This way, my lady.”
Evangeline looked at Merlin then to Percival, annoyance etched on her features, not because she was being hidden but because they had taken the opposite to try and take her back for themselves. Nonetheless, she followed Merlin as quickly as she could. She didn’t want to be hidden though Evangeline knew it was the safest thing for her. Walking through another corridor her eyes spotted a few of the knights coming in their direction. “Merlin” she whispered, deciding to come to a halt behind a pillar, hoping that they wouldn’t be found. She knew Arthur would be furious, but this is what her uncle liked to do, he liked to play games. Percival had stopped the knights directing them to the great hall where they were supposed to be.
Leading her through the hallway, Merlin’s eyes restlessly searched the hallways. He was no stranger to covertly running through the Palace of Camelot, dodging patrols and wandering eyes. Catching sight of the knights as she did, Merlin tucked behind the pillar with her and listened to the sound of footsteps echo by, followed by Percival’s booming voice. Checking the hall was clear on the other side, he beckoned her. “This way!” he whispered, leading her down the opposite hallway to where Percival was directing the wandering knights.
Evangeline followed Merlin with haste until they got to the castles basement. She breathed a sigh of relief instantly knowing that they were out of harm’s way. “My uncle is on a very fine line” she proclaimed to Merlin, anger hinting in her voice. “He is lucky that Arthur himself isn’t waging war on him to have his men ride into the kingdom. I am under his protection and John knows that” Blue eyes fell onto Merlin deciding to sit herself upon the floor, not caring if she got dirtied. “Not going to lie, I wish I lead a simpler life. None of this war business or having the pressure to rule” Evangeline gave a slight shrug of her shoulders, “If my uncle wasn’t such a brute in the first place none of this would happen. The things he would beat me for.. chain me to my bed against my own will because he thought it was amusing.” By this point she looked solemnly to her hands, “I have tried to stand up to him but I don’t have the confidence”
Running through the stone halls with her, he led her down into the underground sanctums of the Palace. “Why, yes!” he proclaimed proudly, clearly pleased with the fact he was often spoken about. He held both sides of his beard, ruminating on the idea that he was appreciated a moment before he remembered what he had come to speak about. “Ah, yes…well, I’ve come to inquire about that-” he paused, realising he hadn’t even mentioned what he was referring to. “-That is to say, I’ve come to speak about his lessons with me. I would quite like to continue them, should you allow it and should the boy not object.”
“Yes, of course!” William complied with hardly a delay. “He does seem to be learning a lot from you - good things. And he very much seems to like you. Shame on me if I were to put a halt to it now.” He smiled again, yet only for a moment before slight concern crossed his brow.
“Just…..please inform me if you can of any….‘special’ lessons you might have planned. I would not want to go hunting on a day you turned him into a fox as per the lesson plan…”
“Splendid!” cried Merlin, clapping his hands together. “For a moment I worried that you would not approve of his lessons, I am glad to see you are a man who understands the importance of a good education.” In the day and age Merlin currently lived in, it seemed as if the people were more concerned with shows of strength than knowledge. It seemed as if he would need to be the trail blazer in encouraging study over violence.
Merlin chuckled under his breath, shaking his head. “Well, now, I will endeavour to keep you closely updated on my tutoring plans.” He placed his hands on either side of his beard, holding them as one might hold the edges of a waistcoat.
