hi… im alive (HAHAHHA) and if you see me active around here it’s because I recently get started playing a DND campaign set in the Pokemon universe (my DM made Gladion and N boyfriends because I love Gladion and another player loves N)
anyway if anyone still sees my silly lil posts and reblogs don’t hesitate to lmk how you’re doin
I know its nowhere near february and feel free to delete but would you be willing to do valentines headcanons on bede recieving gifts or confessions from a friend/crush? Could be platonic or more your choice. If unsure on direction maybe how does he feel about the pink holiday, different gifts, and/or the confessor?
This will platonic. As stated in my rules, I will not be writing anything romantic/romantic-esque for any character that is canonically a minor. The idea of what I went for in this request is like in elementary school and everyone in your class brings a treat to give to everyone else.
Master Post
SFW: Bede
Bede had always been labeled as the problem child. Lead astray by Rose. So for him, Valentine’s Day is a strange concept for him.
He doesn’t understand why someone would give gifts or treats to others platonically or romantically.
So when one of the first friends he made, along with Hop, Marnie, Gloria, and Victor give him a treat, he is surprised. He thinks they’re pranking him.
Later on, when he goes to Opal about it, she explains that at his age, friends will bring gifts/treats for each other.
This confuses him. Like what do you mean this is normal for people my age? Do people really celebrate this when they DONT have a romance partner? Is this what a normal childhood is like? Side note I can never reader the term ‘romance partner’ without hearing Brenan Mulligan doing the Baron from the Baronies voice in Fantasy High season two of dimension 20.
When he finally gets it, he stays up all night making a lil gift to give them in return. Mans is ready to pass out at any moment the next day. Hop and co all notice just how sleep deprived he is. But they are grateful for the little gifts they receive from him.
oras is so funny because the whole time ruby and sapphire are on their own they cannot stop thinking about the other one and are so hopelessly in love with each other and then as soon as they’re together in the same room again and the big Crisis Conversation is out of the way they’re right back at it
What are your top 5 favorite contestshipping moments and why?

AG113 is overall an important episode for May and Drew’s relationship. It’s the first time May and Drew are together outside the context of their rivalry, and here, Drew is able to see May in the light that she is a girl and not just another coordinator. I would mark the above as the moment when Drew actually feels a genuine spark of affection toward May. In the Japanese translation, Shuu drops the honorific he uses for Haruka shortly after this scene, further indicating there’s been a change in the way he views her.
4.
May: Done this before, right?
Drew: You talk too much.
Role reversal! May is the one who gets to rib Drew for once, when it’s usually Drew doing all the teasing. It’s a nice, lighthearted moment for them. Moreover, it demonstrates a kind of familiarity in their relationship that wasn’t there before.
3.
If AG113 was when Drew began to harbor genuine affection toward May, then AG162 was when May, late to the game as usual, began to realize she might have feelings for Drew, too. Earlier in the episode, Brianna confronted May about her relationship with Drew, and she blushed, admitting she hadn’t really thought about it. Well, she’s thinking about it here.
2.
May: Well, I want to find my own style, too! and learn how to show off my Pokemon a lot better than I do now—all my own like no one else.
Drew: [Chuckles] Sounds good.
I will never shut up about this scene. The way he looks at her tells you exactly how he feels about her. He’s watched her transform from a clumsy rookie coordinator into a skilled performer, and she’s grown into his rival and love interest in that time.
1.
Drew: Man, that girl never fails to surprise me.
THERE IT IS. THERE IT IS RIGHT THERE. THERE’S THE REASON WHY MAY, ABOVE ANYONE ELSE, IS DREW’S TRUE RIVAL AND THE ONLY PERSON WHO COULD SUSTAIN HIS ATTENTION LONG ENOUGH FOR HIM TO FALL COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE. She surprises him. She’s surprised him from the very beginning—from the first time they met, to the first contest in which they competed… In fact, nearly every episode in which Drew appears involves May somehow surprising him, whether it be by her skill or her compassion or her love toward people and Pokemon.
And he’s in awe of her. He receives loads of attention — unwanted attention — from nearly everyone who surrounds him, but the only person he wants to notice him is May. And he spends the entirety of their relationship doing anything he can to get it.
It’s so ironic. Because May LOVES romance. She’s a sucker for romantic movies (that weird space Titanic movie with the Xatu she remembers) and likes to play matchmaker (like with the characters Romeo and Juliet).
But she honestly never considers Drew’s roses or sometimes flirtatious words to be romantic until someone – MULTIPLE someones – bring it up to her and she’s like ‘WOAH there this is…this is coming out of left field? drew? are you sure?? that sounds fake but uh……okay..’ and that’s great.
She will pounce on the slightest show of love and will not rest until she sees that romance blossom, but she’s oblivious to her own romantic story. I love it.
Was there contestshipping hints in the Japanese version of ag?? Why do I have a feeling 4kids added boyfriend to Harley's teasing
Totally! I don’t even count Harley calling Drew May’s boyfriend in the dub a hint as it’s just Harley being Harley, he also calls Ash, Brock and Max May’s boytoys in the dub.
There are times to be aware of the dub however, such as in the Kanto Grand Festival when May talks to Solidad and Solidad tells May that Drew has developed feelings for her. This is a dub only line (And I really don’t get why they changed it, they kind of ruined the whole plot and mood of the Grand Festival so if you can check it out subbed I totally recommend it!)
But that being said, there are some cool things in the Japanese version that aren’t in the dub! My favorite little fun fact is that Drew calls May “Haruka-kun” at first, the same way that Gary calls Ash “Satoshi-kun” (which was translated to Ash-boy in the dub). This -kun suffix in this specific case is used to establish a sense of superiority and is pretty condescending. But in Who, What, When, Where, Wynaut, Drew very importantly drops the suffix and calls her “Haruka” for the first time. How you call someone is a super big deal in Japan, and this change was not done without purpose, showing that after this episode Drew is starting to see her as an actual friend/someone he might care about.
You also get cool little things like this:
Drew completing May’s sentence because he understands her feelings, because he knows her so well because he can see so much of himself in her and that they really are more alike then you would think, both being coordinators and both going through these same hardships. I feel like the dub doesn’t stress that point very well.
And of course, scenes like this are just universal as contestshipping hints no matter what language:
Galar is possibly one of the most messed up regions, tbh. Like, yeah, Unova had a more messed up team and plot, but I’m talking about Galar’s day-to-day.
They have a town that is run down and nearly abandoned despite having a major gym, because there’s nowhere to Dynamax. Not because they WON’T dynamax, but because they CAN’T through no fault of their own. And Piers thinks it’s his fault people don’t show up! Like…that’s cruel.
They have corrupt royal brats who commit major crimes PUBLICLY, just because they claim to be descended from some legendary hero, even after it was basically proven the hero was actually a pair of Pokemon. They tried to disprove this via crimes that did nothing to even come close to disproving anything, and somehow still had supporters. These people were IN CHARGE. Oh, not to mention all the proof the heroes were Pokemon was hidden, making it clear there was a cover up at some point in Galar’s history.
Their hostile Pokemon aren’t as easily avoided because they aren’t regulated to tall grass, caves, and water. Heck, they chase you down. Apparently almost all the Pokemon in Galar are highly territorial or something.
In the manga, people were spreading HORRIBLE rumors that Piers literally poisoned his audience, and let Pokemon attack them. Like, that’s the Pokeuniverse version of “My friend said Metallica worships Satan and eats babies, he said his uncle heard the pastor say he saw it so it’s true.”
Dynamaxing Pokemon against their will seems to hurt them. Like, no joke, the whole post-game story was about how the royal brats were forcing wild Pokemon with dynamax against their will.
Speaking of dynamax, how many people got squished by a Pokemon?
This is the only region where you have to have a sponsorship to take on the Gym league. Every other region, you can do so freely, but here you have to be granted special permission, which can be revoked for literally any reason. Bede had his sponsorship revoked INSTANTLY and PUBLICLY by Rose…for trying to help Rose. It was a misguided try, but he was trying to help, regardless. And to top it off, Rose basically disowned Bede in the process. Even all the other characters were shocked. Like, whether or not you can participate is based on pure whims. There isn’t even an application process. How do we know there isn’t some shady “League Endorsement Sugar Daddy” in Galar? Or a bribe system? Or literally anything shady?
A/N: Hehe, you guys haven’t heard from me in a while but surprise I am alive! And absolutely being devoured by work. I’ve been able to play a bit of Genshin in between to tide me over until I can play more Pokemon Games. But, I gotta say it’s pretty refreshing to write older characters. I hope you guys will forgive me for my fluctuating interests, have this... little gift from me. Not Gladion but he’s pretty damn similar.
The moment Xiao set foot on the bridge he heard them. The voices grew louder, screaming for salvation, for him to purge the evil. It was always loudest during the Lantern Rite but he had hoped with how well he had been doing recently he could risk it for a moment. Clearly, the years have made him complacent. He motioned to try and grab hold of his spear but instead found a hand tugging at his own. He followed the hand with his eyes until he caught sight of a shoulder and then deep blue eyes were staring into his own.
Right, he thought.
[You] invited him.
The person in question squeezed his hand once and started gently pulling him towards the myriad of stalls that had been set up. Some kids called [you] over from the corner, engaged in a game involving little multi-colored towers. [You] waved to them and posed for the shop owner next to them in time for the audible click of his camera.
“Doing alright?” [You] asked. And the Xiao one year prior would have sneered at that, not wanting [your] pity. But [you] only asked out of care for him and he’s come to appreciate [you] for that, for the charm that caused the lantern maker and grilled ticker fish seller to offer [you] freebies. For the charm that convinced the Vigilant Yaksha himself to cease his vigil if only for one night.
Xiao kept quiet as he took in all the festivities, not overwhelmed but also not quite comfortable with his surroundings.
Thankfully, [you] seemed to notice and quickened [your] pace until [you] reached a dock tucked away in the dark corners of the harbor with a single boat attached to it. Beside it sat a crate of fishing gear.
“My fishing boat.” [You] confessed, gesturing for him to sit across [you]. Inside the boat were a couple of cushions, a blanket, and a basket of assorted snacks.
Xiao scoffed. “You drag me to the city only to get away from it?” He raised a brow at [you] but got in anyway, unmoved even as [you] began to use [your] control over the water to gently push [you] out to sea, past several larger ships whose crewmen waved at [you].
“There’s that charm again.” Xiao thought, the notion clearing his mind of dark thoughts just enough for him to admire the way the Mingxiao Lantern loomed in front of [you].
[You] stopped the boat, leaning forward. And before Xiao could protest, [you] grabbed his hand again. He stared down at the offending appendages aghast. He doesn’t think he’s ever allowed anyone this close to him in the hundreds of years he’d been alive. The last he’d remembered were Bosacius’ shaking hands, Skybracer’s bloodstained shoulders, and all the friends he’d held as the light left their eyes.
“Xiao.”
[Your] palms, small and warm in his own, squeezed once. It was as Xiao lifted his head to meet [your] gaze that he realized [you] had been trying to get his attention. “What?” He hissed quietly.
But [you] only laughed breathlessly, nodding towards the direction of the harbor.
The entire city was dark, not a single person making even a whisper of a thought. Xiao was almost horrified at the sight. Was it possible that in the mere seconds he’d been caught up in his past, he’d been unable to protect the people of Liyue? Were they perhaps decimated in the blink of an eye?
The Skybracer made of bamboo and plauserite came to life, the fire within burning and revealing swirling patterns of gold against dashing blue. Behind it, fabric in luminescent azure and stark white fluttered in the evening breeze mimicking Skybracer’s full tail. And as if the spectacle hadn't surprised Xiao enough, the lantern began to move. Enchanted, he thought, as one by one the lantern’s limbs and neck began to shift and twist, the great deer shooting across the sky in wide arcs and in its wake the glow of thousands of lanterns carved out a path in the sky.
Xiao watched it happen with a wonder he thought he wasn’t capable of feeling anymore, only faintly aware of himself through his hands still linked with [yours]. It was so incredible, he’d almost giddily pulled [you] into his arms at the warm feeling rushing through him. The moment he hesitated, [you] had no qualms pulling Xiao in [yourself].
And as the glow of lanterns reflected in [your] eyes, he couldn’t deny how much he wanted to kiss [you].
Xiao held dominion over the wind, but never before had it been knocked so boldly out of him. He could scarcely believe it was caused by the mere realisation of his own feelings. [You] sat there, fireworks exploding in the sky as [you] stared at each other. For once, Xiao’s mind was clear of just about everything except the sound of [your] breaths, the curve of [your] lips, and [your] voice as [you] said his name.
Wait, his name?
“Beg your pardon?”
[Your] nose scrunched up in amusement and wow, Xiao doesn’t think he’s ever seen anything as adorable. And Xiao has a soft spot for little ones, not that he’d ever admit it. “Right here, right now. Don’t you feel like you’re part of this?” [You] asked, cupping Xiao’s hands in both of [yours].
Xiao willed himself not to be distracted by the myriad of ways [you] liked to show [your] affection with [your] hands and tried to decipher [your] meaning to no avail. “What do you mean?”
“You said that not having a care in the world, being at peace, and feeling joy was not something you understood. But I feel your joy here,” [You] rested [your] fingertips gently at his collar where [you] could feel the flutter of his heartbeat, fast as a butterfly’s wings.
He was about to protest [your] warm hands leaving his when [you] continued. “I feel your peace here.” [You] said, hands grazing up his throat to cup his cheeks.
“And your care-” [You] smiled faintly, brushing [your] thumb over the tip of his nose. “Right here.”
Xiao clicked his tongue, lips drawing down into a slight frown at the teasing. His mood however was betrayed by the way his pulse grew ever quicker under [your] touch.
“As I have said, most mortal entertainment is fleeting, a short-lived spectacle.” He said in a tone notably softer than the growling timbre [you] were used to. He had declined, repeatedly, when [you] first asked him to join [you] for the festivities in a voice that struck fear into the hearts of heavenly and hellish creatures.
But Xiao the Vigilant Yaksha, [you] had discovered, who always donned his mask in a way even when he wasn’t exorcising demons was not the Xiao that sat in front of [you]. He was not in the Xiao that gently took [your] hands back in his, nor the Xiao that pulled the blankets up and wrapped them around [you]. He was not the Xiao that [you] dared to hope in the dead of night, when demons stole him away from [you], could possibly return [your] feelings.
[You] breathed in shakily, Xiao’s grip on [you] tightening at the sound. “Is this not?”
Xiao was somber, not unlike he was in the moments when his memories overcame him and he needed a minute to fight the darkness that clung to him like a second skin.
And in that serious tone of his, he spoke. “If you think that this relationship is something fleeting to me, then you are greatly mistaken.”
“You mean-” [You] choked at the words and the meaning behind them, startled.
“Will you-”
[You] didn’t let him finish, leaning all the way into his arms as [your] lips met, Xiao holding [you] so the boat wouldn’t tip over. [You] parted almost immediately, chaste and in awe of each other.
“Give me permission to court you?” He continued, a little breathless as [your] cheeks heated in embarrassment.
“O-Oh! I’m so sorry I misunderstood and I was too caught up in the ambiance and the way the moon and the lanterns lit up made you look so amazingly ethereal and unreal, I can’t believe you’re real and that you like me even though I-I make mistakes like think you want to kiss me-”
Xiao stared at [you] and his lips, the ones [you’d] kissed, curved into a smile brighter than any dawn [you’d] seen traversing Teyvat. The sheer joy and hope and affection in it infectiously warm. “You’re forgiven...” He murmured. As Xiao closed his eyes and rested his forehead against [yours], he whispered into the lantern filled night.
I think I might be having a legitimate mental breakdown about the trajectory of my life. About how I am working in Finance and have built this foundation for a career in business because I failed my first entrance test to study literature but even now I’m constantly fascinated by stories, books, and movies. While, at work, I’m not picking anything up. I’ve been told it’s because I am resenting they hand I’ve been dealt, that it’s because I am new and young and learning.
It’s just so hard for me to fathom the dissonance between what I am doing and what I want to be doing with my life. The more I think about it, the more I want to dispair.
I hope you guys have been happy in the time that I drifted apart from the world of imagination and I hope that some of you know what you want. If you do, then that’s fantastic and I’m happy for you. If you don’t, then it’s fine. We’re all in the same boat. Let’s come up with things to look forward to and work towards together. And if you want something, I hope you all have the courage to pursue it.
