Donny Devlin runs into John Watson investigating the case of a missing child in Kent. He’s in the UK on a trip to get in touch with his roots, with a week long stop in London, when he sees the news. Famous detective Sherlock Holmes is supposedly one the case, but Donny can’t find any evidence of him being on the scene - just his assistant, a Doctor John Watson, whom the police are exasperated with but seem to trust.
He approaches John, curious about why Sherlock isn’t assisting. John is wary at first, but after all, isn’t he also a private citizen working the case? He lets Donny tag along, but starts to notice he’s got a keen eye for detail and evidence. They spend long nights working late into the morning, sharing a rapidly-cooking cocoa Donny always adds too many marshmallows to.
And when they make a breakthrough, it’s on Donny’s work. They know where the child is, and they know he isn’t the first to disappear from the area. Together they get there in time, Donny saves the kids, John kills the kidnapper, and while they wait for the police to arrive John grabs him and kisses him.
Donny wants to resist, it’s his instinct, his nature, but he likes John. He likes John more than anyone else. John treats him like a man, not like a burden. Not like a child. He melts into John’s arms and hums into his lips, patting out a happy rhythm on the back of John’s jacket.
“Donny and Johnny... it sounds good. Sounds good together, I like it.”
