There’s a trend developing in tracks which catch my ear in the electronic sphere. ‘Flares’ of sound would be a decent way to describe it; anything other than murky, overly repetitive bits that wear thin.
Bobby Becker History: XII
Being in so many music classes has gotten me very nervous about discussing “art” music candidly. I feel like the way that music was analyzed didn’t help me understand it. Granted, I did drop out of school, and I did fail 1/2 of my comprehensive exams for my music major, but Jesus.
I really felt that the only time I knew what I was talking about was during a presentation on Morton Feldman’s Rothko Chapel. I found an article that spoke about the theory behind it and I thought it gave a completely engaging interpretation of the entire piece. Yes, of course the piece is based off of the artwork of Mark Rothko, but more than that, it explains the overarching concept of stasis in the piece. Each section is clearly delineated, each representing stasis in a different way while still being a coherent whole.
The 5th section is probably the most beautiful out of context. I’d talk about it but I’m shy.
