Chapter 17: Therapy

“So, tell me.  How’re things?”

“Good.  Really good.”  That was the truth of it.  I sat on the soft, plush couch in Jax’s office, starting my therapy session and I felt really good.  I was now sixteen weeks pregnant and Natasha and Wanda were now 24 weeks.  I had a noticeable baby bump and we’d be finding out the sex soon.  I was in that sweet spot where I wasn’t too heavy to do things and I was past the morning sickness so I felt full of energy and ready to take on the world.  On top of that, we were feeling the other babies kick now.  The twins loved to put their hands on Natasha or Wanda’s stomach and talk to their sisters until they felt them kick.  They’d squeal and tell everyone how much their sisters loved them in excited jabbering.  I loved touching them too.  It was nice, when the day had come to a close, to relax, cuddled up on the couch with my hands on Natasha or Wanda, just feeling the babies kick.  The kids were enjoying school.  We dropped them off and picked them up in pairs.  If Natasha was one of the pair we’d walk.  If not, we’d have Happy drive us and wait in the car so we could avoid the paparazzi.  They’d made friends and they came home jabbering about all the things they’d done.  We organized play dates for them.  On top of that, everyone had just taken on administrative duties unless there was something really big and they needed a heavy hitter like Thor or Hulk (which was so rare these days), I was almost stress-free and enjoying myself.  So I was good.  I was as good as I’d been in my whole life.  This felt like the way things were supposed to be.

Chapter 1: Now

The lights were out in the lobby.  That wasn’t that unusual.  The building you lived in was only barely above the level of run-down most people would consider dilapidated.  If it was just the lights, you wouldn’t be as on edge as you currently felt.  But as not just one, but two of the security doors leading in were unlatched your hackles went up.

You immediately became aware of someone lurking in the shadow of the stairwell, and you relaxed.

Some people gave off a certain energy.  It was comfortable and familiar and if they were there you just knew.  It was almost like their molecules blended with yours and spoke to each other without needing to be aware it was happening.

The dining room table of Lisa’s house was covered in bright colors of the many types of candy being used to decorate the gingerbread houses. The family had been leisurely enjoying their time between Christmas and New Years, not worrying about schedules or work. The Evans siblings had all had their Christmas celebration with Bob that day but now that they were back in Sudbury, they all had gathered around Lisa’s table for dinner together with Nicking coming over to join.

Now that the meal was over, their annual gingerbread making had commenced. All of Chris’ nephews had their own gingerbread house while the adults roamed around, helping with some construction or just sitting around sipping on drinks as they happily talked. Chris was relaxed in one of the dining room chairs, his foot propped up on another as he watched the kids work on their houses… well the children plus Scott and Nickie who had decided on creating one together.

“You put too much frosting!” Scott boisterously shouted while trying to fix the roof that was sliding off. “It’s falling apart!”

“I thought it would stick better!” Nickie argued.

“Well you thought wrong!” Scott plainly stated.

Chris laughed as he saw her smacking Scott’s arm before the two got back to working. Miles had decided he wanted to use the crushed up bits of peppermint candies as the walkway for his gingerbread house and so Chris crushed them for Miles before coming back to sit down next to Stella.

Oh I’m so mad about this. Chris is right. 100% right. Reader is being an asshole. Totally didn’t defend or stand up for Chris at all. She’s accusing him of playing games and yet she’s the one fucking with his head now and saying maybe she was lying to him when they opened up to eachother when they BOTH KNOW that’s not true.

Also Scott was being hella dramatic and I get that he’s protective of his friends and trusts his brother, but it’s not his relationship to get in the middle of. His reaction was completely disrespectful and uncalled for. Shame on you Scott.

According to costume designer Judianna Makosky, the majority of Chris Evans’ scenes in the Captain America films where he is in regular clothes (outside the suit) required him to wear t-shirts which were many sizes too small for the actor. This was purposefully done so that his muscles would visibly pop on camera.

Chapter 13: Balancing the Numbers

I didn’t hear from any of my biological family anytime soon after that, and I just went back to my regular day-to-day life.  The twins would be starting preschool soon and we were all taking the time to appreciate them being around, just as we were also planning to enjoy the time when they first started.  I spent my time between them and the lab and I tried to put everything else behind me.

Wanda had well and truly started showing, while Natasha had just a very small baby bump.  They were both extreme ends of what pregnant women could be too.  Wanda had that glow everyone always spoke about.  Her hair was rich and full, and her skin was clear and beautiful.  She was tired a lot but she would take regular naps and she was loving being pregnant.  Most of the time you found her wearing long flowing clothes that showed off her baby bump.  Natasha on the other hand was irritable and moody.  Her skin and hair were on the greasy side.  She had a weirdly high amount of energy and kept freaking out about all the things we needed to do before the babies came and her sex drive went from 0 to 100 at the drop of a hat.  She also was in sweats all the time and usually, the sweatshirt she wore was one of the guys so she was swimming in it.
