but in the context that will DOES find love in season five and DOES get to kiss someone who isn’t a girl this is a much more understandable thing to say..

“it was the best thing i’ve ever done” is even more beautiful when you consider that if mike had never gone up to will that day he would never have gotten mixed up with the upside down. he would have never gone through these traumatizing events or feared for his life the way he has.

and while will is possessed and putting everyone in danger through his connection to the upside down, mike in this scene is making the effort to remind him that he doesn’t regret any of it, and that he wouldn’t change a thing. that all this suffering has been worth it to know will, and to be his friend. because god forbid will consider himself a burden to mike for even a second.
