Saw a post about a list of fictional characters who would have wished for something similar to Bear in Obsession.
As someone who enjoys Mare and Maven's dynamic, made me immediately think if Maven would also wish for something similar.
It's no secret that Maven has an inferiority complex whenever Cal is involved. He is envious of all the privileges Cal receives from being the firstborn son, heir to the throne, son of their father's one true love, and just perfect in every way.
But being Maven, he also has a superiority complex and believes he is above everyone else, including Cal, in some areas. This is the root of his resentment, seeing all these people fawn over Cal when he is right there and more than capable.
That's why it meant so much to him to be loved and admired by Thomas and, at some point, Mare. For someone who spent their short life being compared, neglected, groomed, and picked apart, feeling genuine love and care from another person must have been alien to him.
Throughout the series, he hunted down and imprisoned Mare to feel that again; he held on to her as tightly as his grief for Thomas.
Even so, I don't think he'd wish for Mare to love him, not because he values her autonomy, but because of his ego. Maven believes that he has qualities to be loved and has every right to be loved just as much as Cal.
Tragically, his mother carved a void so deep that Maven became too ambitious and angry for genuine love to satiate it. He wished for more and more.
He'd wish for his father to love him.
He'd wish for Cal to stay as his brother.
He'd wish for him to be the firstborn son.
He'd wish to be who he was supposed to be and not what his mother made him.
