This. This is how you break down ableist barriers. This is incredible for the deaf and for the custies. I would love to learn sign language, and I would learn it faster if it was standing between me and booze
this is so important

Don't laugh at my uh... uh.... aphasia
Chronic pain sufferers often have anomic aphasia - times when they can’t remember certain words or use the wrong word while speaking.
I have this, and it’s damn frustrating.
I can express myself perfectly in writing, but ask me where my car is and I might say it’s in the kitchen (instead of the garage).
That’s funny, right? “Ha ha, you said you parked the car in the kitchen! Ha ha ha!”
Sure it sounds funny. But to me, it’s not humorous. I feel stupid and frustrated and angry that my fucked-up brain misplaces common, everyday words. So please don’t laugh or make fun of me when it happens. Just be patient with me.
aphasia
Aphasia is a neurological disorder where the the part of the brain that controls language is damaged. You can have trouble reading, writing, and saying what you mean to say. What part of brain is damaged and how severe the damage are the factors that determine the type of problems you experience. 4 types of aphasia which include expressive aphasia having trouble saying or writing what you mean. Receptive aphasia where you see print or hear a voice but cant make sense of it. Anomic aphasia where you have trouble using the correct word for an object, place, or event. Then global aphasia where you cant speak, read, write, or understand speech. Language speech is the best treatment option.
So I went to Target
and this woman was calling for her daughter. I swear to god she was calling “Aphasia”. She named her daughter Aphasia.
Dear people of the world, please don’t name your children after a neurological disorder. I know, I know, it’s pretty damn awesome.
But still. No.
Just no.
Reblog if you have dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, dysphasia, aphasia or any other learning disorder or you support LD people.
As someone who has both dyscalculia and dyspraxia, I’ve been made fun of for my lack of understanding simple math and for having trouble with delicate tasks. LD people are just as smart as people without LD; they just apply themselves differently.
