does anyone have any analysis abt what they think the lonely succubus represents / means or is it simply the universal urge that directors have to make lakeith stanfield look and act weird
My friends and I interpreted it like this
The lonely succubus exists in opposition to Corvette’s friends, as the two options she has for connection (which she craves but cannot feel at the beginning of the film)
Throughout the film she feels drawn to him and vice versa due to their shared loneliness despite the people around them because their hearts aren’t truly opened to anyone, they’re solely focused on themselves and their own worries, wishes, and inner world. Even their bond, since it’s formed around loneliness, pushes others out (the weird honing in effect that happens when he talks, and the ultimatums required for them to pursue a real relationship, he cannot suck souls out of others anymore lol).
However in the end she rejects him and the eternal loneliness he represents (since choosing him would reject personal growth and thus keep her from ever opening up to others and accepting real love and connection from a community rather than one vacuum of a person) and chooses to be with her friends. She listened to Sade’s words from their argument and recognized that she has people in her corner, and has for a long time.
By the end of the movie she no longer needs him, because she has opened herself to Sade, Mariah, Jianhu, Violeta, and the cause. She’s fulfilled, she’s no longer lonely.
