Why is this funny?
Wayfaring: Am I ok talking freely in front of mom?
Teenager: Yeah, she knows everything. We don’t keep secrets.
Wayfaring: Ok, well we called you back in because you have gonorrhea and we need to treat you and your partners.
Teenager:
Mom:
Mom: ok, but all they have to do is take an antibiotic, right? Or is this one that you’re stuck with forever?
Wayfaring: Fortunately this is one you can take an antibiotic for, but let’s talk about the others for a minute. (Explains other STDs, discusses more permanent conditions like HIV and herpes, discusses risk of PID and infertility, encourages condom use, blah blah.) I also encourage you to tell all your sexual partners so that they can be tested and so that you don’t run the risk of being re-infected. Our state doesn’t contact partners anymore.
Teenager: Will you tell him?
Wayfaring: I will if you give me written permission to call him—
Teenager: No, he’s here. I’ll just bring him in. *brings him in*
Wayfaring: Well dude, we brought you in here to tell you that your partner here has gonorrhea and you should be tested as well.
Dude:
Mom: Just think dude, one day years from now you’ll look back on this and laugh and say, “remember that time you gave me the clap?”
Mom and teenager:
Dude:
Wayfaring:
I expected this to turn end like an episode of Maury...

Plan B
Friends and I were walking through the B&N on campus and happened to stumble upon the study aide books. One of them noticed the wedding planner section right next to the prehealth books. Not sure if that's a sign that not doing well on the mcat means finding a rich suitor...

Hiya stalkers!
Eid Mubarak to all the Muslims and a Happy Monday to you all!!
Past few days have been busy and wet. All the while my sleep schedule has been ruined :(. Today being Eid meant attending morning prayers and stuffing my face with breakfast afterwards (at a time that isn't before 5AM!). Morning prayers turned into Fight Club, a group of women went fisticuffs because of how congested it was. Really this isn't surprising see as there was one exit and entrance, or that every mother to a newborn- 5 year old brought their children along. As well as strollers and mobile nursery it seemed. I respect mothers and all they do, but real talk a 3 month old baby don't need to attend a prayer session with THAT many people going.
End rant.
Otherwise, it's been a pretty good day :). And if I do say, I posted this before 3AM. That's an accomplishment in itself.
Today was a shopping and movie night :).
Ironically we didn't watch Birdemic tonight, so I guess we'll try tomorrow. I found a dress for Eid (still don't know if it'll be on Sun or Mon) and a dress for a wedding next weekend.
Also, my curse for people being pulled over by the police seems to have rubbed at work. Whenever I caught a bus at school at this specific spot, campus police would pull over a person while I waited for a bus :/. It's happened twice at work this week already...
The practice is on the decline in many countries. But the population boom in Africa and the Middle East will put millions of girls at risk unless more progress is made.
I remember while visiting my dad's home country and this being an issue :(. Most of the people there would excuse it for 'religious purposes', a way to "purify their daughters". I'm glad there are women and men alike advocating against this practice, and hope it'll be culturally accepted as well.
Ahh Misterwives :). Love the band and this remix.
Fees & Stoopid People
I learned two things today: 1) tuition may have froze for this upcoming school year, but I swear the fees have gotten outrageous, and 2) my patience being has been tested further at work recently. It's the sporadic few that feel they could bend the rules because they 'deserve it'. Sure, I could call student finances at my school and tell them that I deserve a fee waiver for the Magical Unicorn/ Narwhal Research Lab. Besides, I'm way more special than than the student population. I need some Advil.
The Home Improvement of 2014 is beginning to become exhausting. Every paint stroke and sanding makes me wish I could do MCAT review. This is scaring me... Also I would like to not discover paint on a weird place on my body -.-.
Much tired. I miss caffeine :(.
Hiya stalkers!
Celebrated the sis' birthday today :). We attempted making pancakes again for suhoor, and I'm happy to report there weren't mites crawling in this mix. The family decided to have eat out for iftar too.
The home improvement efforts of '14 are in full swing! Started painting the living room tonight and will finish up tomorrow. I forgot to wear a scarf so my hair is spotted with white. Didn't expect to gray so soon, figured med school was going to do that :/.
That there is regret. Went to Walmart tonight after work, and figured "Oh, I'm sure there won't be any leftovers when I get home". My hunger naively decided that a sandwich and 'salad' would suffice. So much sodium. So much regret.
Welcome to Medblr Vale
"All I ever wanted to do was help people"
Now, here’s some background on the disastrous Immedture. I come from an immigrant background, I myself am a first gen kid. My parents wanted the best for their kids, and for us to succeed. Occupation wise, they fit the immigrant stereotype perfectly- only doctors, engineers and [INSERT HIGH WAGE JOB HERE] were permitted.
This has brought a personal dilemma for myself. Do I truly desire obtaining the M.D. title, or is this something I need to do to please my parents? I used to relentlessly argue with my father about him forcing me to accept his dreams, and for a period even despised the idea of a career in medicine. Why should I waste 12+ years of my life only to accumulate debt? Is it even worth doing? WHAT IF I DON’T GET A PERFECT SCORE ON THE MCAT?!?!!
I’ve battled these stupid questions since I started undergrad, and even figured I should switch majors and ditch the med school path. I discovered the medblr community here on tumblr, and realized that there wasn’t one way to get into medical school. That feeling lost about my future is normal. In reality, my kid dreams of working for DWB and being a bad ass surgeon were MY dreams. I enjoy where I volunteer and stressing out after every visit whether or not a child peed on my leg (it’s happened before). So as I tackle the MCAT and life in general, I’d like to thank all the wonderful medblrs for the impact they have on everyone who desire to join medicine. You guys rock :).
