Hi! This is a blog based around the RedeemtheFam! Au for Trials of Apollo. What if when Apollo was turned mortal, all of his siblings were as well? This au centers around Ares, Aphrodite, Apollo, Artemis, Hephaestus, Athena, Hermes, and Dionysus, and all their mortal exploits. I write (only a little tho oof) draw, and answer asks on this blog.
Pls tag me if you make anything related to this au, I’d love to reblog all y’all’s stuff!
as you said you wanna see them bond: Heph&Ares are the Trope of "Stay in the Car" "*runs over Monster with Car*" "..dude" "I stayed in the Car!" but Heph is the one who got it back to working and Ares is the one reckless enough to drive into Monsters
also, to counter a rather old-ish ask of mine: what would be their fav thing about mortality and/or their mortal bodies?
Aphrodite: The ability to be consistent. Aphrodite has a face of her own now, not just whatever everyone else believes is pretty. She spends a lot of time during the quest trying out different styles of clothes and makeup, excited that some things don't match, or make her face look a bit weird. It's a freedom she's never been able to explore before.
Artemis: Looking like Apollo. It's been a while sense the two have really looked like twins and it's comforting, though Artemis would never admit it.
Athena: The respect given. Athena doesn't like how being older weighs her down physically, but she does enjoy how it makes others look at her. She is the oldest in the room, and because of it, people look to her almost subconsciously for guidance. This is both a blessing and a curse, as it leaves her unable to be fully vulnerable with her siblings.
Dionysus: Being himself again. Dionysus chose to look the way he does in PJO to lament his misery. This is an understandable issue, but it must be exhausting to be projecting your anger and sadness every day, all the time. In this mortal form, Dionysus is able to just be. He can look in the mirror and see himself, not just his hatred, reflected back.
Hephaestus: His hands. For Hephaestus, his hands have always been dependable, strong, and capable. As a mortal, this stays much the same. They're his source of motivation. When all else is lost, Hephaestus can still build.
Hermes: The lack of fear. As a mortal, people don't cower when Hermes walks into a room. They talk over him, ignore him, and treat him as they would anyone else. Hermes loves this more than anything, especially when it comes to his children.
Ares: His eyes. It's an odd thing to like, and definitely not something Ares thought he would care about when the quests started. But one day, about three months into the trials, Ares and Aphrodite get some time to just sit down and relax. Ares is showering Aphrodite with compliments ("Prettiest gal around" "Stronger than anyone else here") and he says she looks beautiful. She thanks him, but she looks a bit upset. "I've been thinking recently" she says, "And I think I've forgotten to tell you some things." She starts with Ares hands. (Strong when you need them to be, but so caring in everything you do) then his chest (Holds the bravest soul I've ever known) then his face (I fall in love again everytime I see it, everytime I see you) and then finally his eyes. "They're red right now," she says. "The right is a bit lighter than the left. They're beautiful, absolutely stunning. Everytime you look at me they light up like stars, and I can never tell what I did to deserve it." Aphrodite takes Ares face into her hands and smiles "Gods above, Ares, your eyes are love itself."
also ALSO who is carrying out those damn Letters to Zeus? Cause it cant be Hermes, since he isnt there either, He has to deal with angry Letters and Messengers
Now that you turned my other ask around, i cannot stop thinking about them just YEETING each other's sacred animals at each other for comfort
LIST TIME LIST TIME
Aphrodite: During a hard week of the quests, Ares spent hours trying to catch a dove for Aphrodite. He could never succeed, since catching wild birds is actually very hard with no tools. He goes to sulk, and ends up almost tripping over a goose, which is another one of Aphrodite's sacred animals. He ends up bringing the goose to Aphrodite as an apology for not being able to catch a dove. She LOVES this goose. It's the most pampered goose in existence.
Apollo: This man has so many sacred animals. Throughout the quests he has been given a crow (Athena) a cow (Dionysus, somehow) a snake that was quickly refused (A very dejected Hermes) and a wolf (Artemis) that he ends up keeping named ουρλιάζω (Apollo is extra)
Ares: Hephaestus and Ares actually work together to help an animal. They find a pitbull in Indiana that's incredibly hostile. She seems like she was used as a fighting dog, and had just run away. The two of them work together to try to get the dog tamed before they have to leave the state. Eventually, the dog is calm enough that she can be kept at the Waystation. Ares does NOT cry when he has to say goodbye.
Artemis: Of all things, Artemis is gifted a Guinea-fowl by Hermes. He was injured, and Hermes had no clue how to handle it. She keeps him for a week before releasing him back into the wild. He was lovingly named Pig by Dionysus.
Athena: Athena never keeps any animal, but Artemis does sit with her to watch the birds at night when she's feeling stressed. She tries to keep an eye out for owls.
Dionysus: As much as Dionysus wishes he could find a tiger, they are sadly in short supply. However, through a very long and convoluted set of circumstances, he manages to obtain a donkey. Frederick the donkey is Dionysus' pride and joy, and basically his emotional support animal (Though he sadly has to share custody with Hephaestus)
Hephaestus: Apparently the sharer of animals, Hephaestus helps Ares tame the pitbull, as well as sharing joint-custody of a donkey with Dionysus. Sprocket the donkey ("His name is not Frederick, Dionysus.") works as Hephaestus' pack mule, carrying inventions and scraps for him as they go on their quests. A valiant steed, for sure.
Hermes: To cheer Hermes up, Apollo found him a tortoise. Hermes likes putting her on his head.
first ask for the new blog: Seeing as Hermes is now clumsy, Ares having a Blindspot, Athena not being in Shape anymore and Hephaestus&his chronic pain, they'll have to start accommodating each other, maybe even try(&probs fail) to take care of one another
There are a whole bunch of serious situations that this would apply to but all I can think of is the fact that Athena is a middle aged woman in this AU, so everyone keeps taking her arm as shes crossing the street like "Don't worry old lady, I'll help you across :D" or when everyone's running from a monster or something Hermes stops and he's like "Guys, we gotta help Athena! She's too old to run :'(" And she hates it.
I love all thr designs and the cloths look like straight out of sallys and percys wardrobe like artemis stuff look like something maybe percy had on his wardrobe what she hates but shes not big enought for sallys stuff like athena and aphrodite
Fun fact! The outfits I drew the gods in were completely random, and I wasn’t planning on them being canon to the au at all, but you know what? They’ve grown on me!
Also you’re completely right, Artemis got her shirt from Percy, and it’s much better than Apollo’s which makes him upset.
also cause i adore the little traits u gave due to that one ask: Heph starting to make Weapons for them all, Aprodithe just takes her new Knife points it at Ares and goes "You're looking sharp today" cue a blushing war god, and groans from everyone at the stupid joke
I’m not gonna lie, I love the idea of Aphrodite making Ares flustered. Honestly I just love the idea of Aphrodite and Ares having a healthy, adorable relationship in general. It just makes me really happy.
i never read Toa btw, but i do recall something about apollo missing messing with all his domains, is Zeus just the Meme of the "This is fine"-Dog in that AU?
In ToA, Apollo’s domains continue to work fine, but that’s only because the other pantheons are able to pick up the slack while he’s gone.
I’m imagining a throne room filled with angry letters from other mythologies. Let’s just say Zeus ends up spending the whole 6 months of the trials doing EXTREME damage control, and decides to never do something like this again.
Due to your last Post/Whump: Them getting rid/trying to hide stuff that could make the other remember traumatic shit or generally make them unwell (Hermes Pockets are full of Jars he pocketed so Ares doesnt see) they all are still struggling a bit how to do the good sibling thing well
The godly habit of doing everything you can to take care of your family while also never letting your family know you care about them.
For some reason all I can think about is Aphrodite finding a snake and thinking ewww gross snake, but also remembering how much Hermes misses George and Martha, so she just picks it up with a stick and gives it to Hermes.
Aphrodite, holding the snake as far away from herself as possible: Here … for you …
Athena: Aphrodite, I don’t know if Hermes is going to-
Hermes: I love them I love you this is the best gift I’ve ever been given I will sell you my firstborn child
Aphrodite & Athena: …
This has nothing to do with your ask I just really like the idea.
tbh i could see all the mortel gods get a soft spot for percy and meg and kind of adopt them but would never tell because the underworld need to freeze over before they admit it
Demigods are getting adopted left and right, it's almost like these are their parents or something.
looked at your designs again, they all have long enough hair for braids..except ares, now imagine he is the only one who can braid/remembers how to do it(yes this is favoritism shush– /hj)
Ares can ABSOLUTELY braid, mans is married to Aphrodite. Artemis and Apollo can also braid hair, but they refuse to do anyone's hair other than each others (It's a twin thing apparently). Surprisingly, Dionysus also remembers how to braid, and he is determined to get Ares short hair into at least ONE tiny braid. It's a bit of a painful process, but now Ares has the smallest little braid hanging behind his ear. Ares promises to let his hair grow out, and everyone gets to match!
also cause i am too soft, which is why: Them growing attached to each other for the first time in a while, sharing those little acts of family/platonic love, just the sheer care of brushing something from somebody's hair or clothes, sharing a waterbottle or a snack, lil acts of kindness that only mean something because they are human right now
wait give me a second I'm gonna write you some whump just for this.
- ok so we're at about TBM times, the gang is in California.
- Hermes has seemed a bit off the last couple of days, but everyone's been rushing around so no ones really noticed
- well, ALMOST no one
- Cue Apollo fucking stabbing himself
- Artemis is freaking out, Aphrodite is freaking out, Dionysus is also distraught (a fun reaction to be explored later!) and Caligula is lucky he called all of his reinforcements in and not everyone was on the ship or else he would've been dead in two seconds flat.
- Anyways, while everyone's lecturing Apollo on the Importance Of Staying Alive, Ares sneaks away. Emotions were never really his forte.
- He's wandering the halls of the Mclean mansion when he stumbles upon Hermes, who is an ... absolute wreck.
- Ares freaks out for a second, because he was just trying to avoid Emotions, but then he looks over Hermes again. He takes a deep breath, and sits down next to him.
- "What's got you so bothered?" Never let it be said that Ares has any sort of tact.
- It takes a bit of aggressive wheedling, but Ares eventually gets the answer out of him.
- Cruise ships, talk of replacing the gods, and stabbing yourself? All of this had been too close to Luke for comfort.
- Hermes confesses to seeing his son everywhere since his death.
- "At first I thought I could fix it, you know? Just be a better father, it'll never happen again. But Luke was right, it's so much bigger than that. I mean, just look around! Everyone's unhappy! And- and all their pain, all their rage, it's all his! Even us Ares! You saw the look on Apollo's face! What if it happens again? What if it's my brother, instead of my son? I ... I can't watch that happen again. I'd tear myself apart."
- Ares takes a second, and then pulls Hermes close.
- "I won't let things get that far."
- Hermes chuckles, a bit tiredly "What, no 'Apollo would never do that! How could you even imply such a thing?'"
- "I can't see the future, that's Goldie's job. Besides, fear like yours is hardly rational. I'm just saying, you can trust me to never let anyone go to far. Family doesn't abandon each other."
- "Wouldn't you love that though? A family war?"
- Ares scoffs "War is what you do when there's no option left but to fight back. We've got plenty of options, we've just been to cowardly to use them. There would be nothing honorable in tearing down Olympus, not when we might be able to rebuild it."
- They keep talking like this for a while, discussing ways to try to keep the family together, once they do confront Zeus on what he's done.
- Eventually, Hermes starts nodding off, leaning into Ares' side.
- "Hey," he mumbles "That thing you said, about fear being irrational and not abandoning family, where'd you get smart enough for stuff like that anyway?"
- Ares laughs "Has your memory gotten that bad? I believe a certain messenger god said the same thing to me after I got out of that jar."
- "Oh yeah," Hermes chuckles "I'm a genius."
- "Yeah, yeah. Now get up, i'm not hauling your scrawny ass to bed."
to add onto a previous ask: do imagine the ones who usually fight and argue bonding due to them being stuck in mortality together, just over some funky bs, ex: ares&heph and everyone just goes "oh styx, this is so much worse oh dear us"
I actually really want some Ares & Heph bonding, so yes that would absolutely happen.
I also really like the idea of Athena and Aphrodite respecting each other a lot more, and sharing a lot of "see what I have to deal with" looks when the other siblings are being stupid. It would just be neat
read the Staff of Hermes and: Hermes experiencing caffeine in a mortal body(percy said he looks like he had too many espresso)
It becomes a personal goal to get a cup of coffee.
When Hermes gets to camp half-blood, he reunites with his kids. Once, he jokingly asks his kids for a cup of joe, and learns that all Hermes kids in Camp Half-Blood are banned from coffee. From then on, Hermes goes out of his way to find some caffeine, but is tragically blocked at every turn. It is only in New Rome that he is finally able to procure some coffee …
another funky one: Everyone getting back at each other for CENTURIES of (petty) shit (Ares keeps putting Nets over Hephaestus as he sleeps, Athena keeps throwing apples at Aprodithe, everyone pranks Hermes) Are they actually still mad? mostly, no, absolutely not are they petty and bring it up constantly despite this? YES duh, thats what siblings are made for
I just realized that absolutely nothing will be happening on these trials. Apollo was able to stay on task during his quests, but 8 GODS? It’ll be a miracle if they’ll be able to get out of the Jackson house without killing each other.
Chiron damn near has a heart attack when this troupe of chaos stumbles their way into Camp Half-Blood.
