The deity depicted in this statue is actually one of the Seven Lucky Gods, or Shichi Fukujin. (Read about them here, and here)

His name is Hotei, the God of Happiness and Abundance! A jolly fellow who is said to grant happiness and luck if you rub his belly.

So yeah, not Buddha. Still great though!

A Bird

Everyone tosses and turns at least several times a day as they sleep

Every time I toss and turn I imagine that someone is listening to the sounds I make

What lies in the innermost reaches of the Earth

I have been given reasons to toss and turn as I sleep I must sit up in order to not die because the bird within my chest flutters even as I sleep and pries my chest open

Yesterday and today I was eating plain rice but my mouth was bitter

Because there are no reasons as to why things flow and because there are no reasons as to why things seep I look like this If there is a god for a god, I would ask that god

Does the world, too, toss and turn because of the bird
