“I think the only people who read the paper are over the age of fifty or are businesspersons.”
“Then I’d have no luck there, then, probably. “
marissascorts:
Marissa swallowed and looked at Imogen and smiled. “Oh! Well you don’t have to worry about me and Teddy. He’s too much of a dork for my taste.”
“Oh, I ---. It’s really none of my business anyway.” She smiled tightly, eyes darting about. “ Would you mind telling me something, though? Is he okay? Just --- is he happy? “
noelle-pav:
“T-That’s a funny, yet true name you picked out for him. Y-Yeah, that’s very true. I-I’m grateful everyday to have my own little boutique safe and sound.”
“ I’d imagine that running your own business takes the ‘ shitty boss ‘ aspect right off the table, but I’m sure it’s not easy, either. “
viktoriya-dragov:
“You know, it wouldn’t surprise me if you could find someone who would. Some people will do just about anything for money.”
“Maybe I’ll post an advert in the paper for it. Do people still read the paper? “
jfcjohanna:
“That’s not— is that safe? Look, I know we just met and I probably will sound like an axe murderer when I say this, especially because I don’t even know your name, but I have a spare room. My roommate moved out a couple months ago. I sound like a psychopath I know, but I am not.”
“ It’s a bit dodgy, but I fend for myself. Wait --- are you being properly serious right now? You don’t exactly give off a psycho vibe, so I’ll take your word for it. Before we take this conversation any further, though, I reckon we should be introduced. I’m Imogen,”
marissascorts:
“Yep! Teddy, he is my flatmate. How do you two know each other? Nice to meet you Imogen!”
“ I’m his ---I... Teddy and I used to date. It’s nice to meet you as well, Marissa. “
oliverxdawson:
“If it’s any consolation, my sofa’s always free.”
“Good to know. Thank you. --- I don’t intend to need to take you up on it but --- thanks.”

It was time. It was time to go He knew it due to the fact that the stupidest of ideas started crawling their way into his head, ideas that would do neither of them any good. Maybe he should invite her out for a drink? To catch up? Or ask her out to lunch? But he knew if he did, it’d be opening up Pandora’s Box and all the things they had stuffed away to allow themselves to even have this conversation would come bursting forth. And he knew he didn’t need that, and he doubted she did either. He was most definitely not in the right headspace to deal with that particular myriad of emotions, especially not with the jet lag he was experiencing.
“Thanks, and I definitely will do that but, well–” he looked down at the watch on his wrist, not even looking at the time, before looking back up at the oh-so-familiar face. “I really have to be going, but it was….It was good seeing you, Ginny.” Although he was lying through his teeth, he’d be lying to himself if he tried to pass the last part off as one as well.
There wasn’t anything left to say. Pleasantries had run dry, and it was time for them to part ways. Shifting her weight from one leg to another, she held back the words threatening to come spilling out of her mouth. ‘ The last six months have been shit without you ‘ she would have blurted if she lacked self control. ‘ I hate that we ended things the way that we did ‘ got stuffed back inside of her, tucked into a compartment of things she would never say. Biting down on her lip, she swallowed as he began to issue his goodbyes. “Yeah, me too. “ The sad truth was that she didn’t really have anywhere to be. Maybe to her cramped sham of a flat to look for a different job that didn’t make her feel like shit -- maybe she’d read a book or something. “It was really good to see you, too, T. Take care, yeah? Don’t do anything to get yourself killed. ---- See you ‘ round. “ It’s another forced smile that almost sent her over the edge. Fumbling through her purse, she retrieved her phone, something for idle hands to do as she turned from him. Taking the steps away from him took her much longer than she would have liked, her head at war with her heart, making it nearly impossible to just let go.
confirmance:
do you ever miss someone but never let them know because you have this feeling that they are doing just fine without you anyways?
jfcjohanna:
“In my eyes you deserve better. Do you live on your own?”
“Thank you. It might sound strange, but it’s nice to hear that coming from someone other than myself. Now I do, yeah. I’ve been in this --- kind of shady studio for the past six months, but I’ve learned that if you hang enough artwork on the walls, any space can look home-y.”
kaitlynxanderson:
“Got any ideas?”
“Fill someone’s machine with too much detergent? That’s not a very nice one -- but it’d make a mess well enough. “
oliverxdawson:
“That’s awful, love. You shouldn’t have to work like that.”
“ Don’t really have another choice do I, though? Unless you don’t mind me bumming about on your sofa once I get evicted. I’ll figure something out, yeah? Don’t start worrying.”
marissascorts:
“I know right? Men. I’m Marissa by the way.”
“ Marissa? You’re Teddy Meyers’ roommate, yeah? I’m Imogen --- Imogen Lewis.”
theseus-meyers:
He was waiting for the words ‘Well, I actually have to go’ or something of the like to slip through his lips or hers, ending the interaction. But selfishly, he feared hearing them. He feared the popping of the little bubble they had created. Sure, it wasn’t the most comfortable of bubbles, there were awkward pauses and a nostalgic sort of pressure surrounding them, but it was theirs, and for once he found himself not wanting to leave it.—He knew it wasn’t a good idea to try and make this, whatever this was, last longer. Their relationship had been romantic in nature for so long that he doubted a friendship would be possible, and they broke up for a reason, something he needed to remind himself of. —— His hands crawled into the front pockets of his favorite faded jeans, suddenly hyperaware of what they were doing, or rather what they weren’t doing. He swallowed, a small lump having built up in his throat, his adam’s apple bobbing nervously.
“Yeah, uh, you too, Ginny.—She’s good, you know, nose in a book like usual.”
Her mind was racing with a series of ‘ what ifs’ and ‘almosts’. What if she hadn’t lashed out angrily every time he disappeared to the other side of the world? What if he had been patient even when he made it impossible. Where would they be now if she hadn’t packed a bag six months ago. Would she be happy? Would they be happy? So much was left unsaid between them. It would have been easier to bury it all and let it rest in peace, but looking at him? Listening to a nickname for her used solely by him? Every little wound seemed to reopen -- every little unspoken question --- every little what if threatened to come pouring out. It took everything within her to stuff all of her questions, accusations, and desires back into a compartment of her heart and carry on with mindless small talk. Smile, more forced than ever, made its way to her lips.
“That’s really good. Tell her I said hello, yeah? Dogs too. “

“Is alright no worries, I do it all the time.”
“I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who’s guilty of it.”
marissascorts:
“I hope so. I’ll be fine, thank you for asking.”
“ Good. Don’t mention it, yeah? Men can be such pigs. “
