I feel like a lot of folks have forgotten, if they ever knew, that the monsters on Buffy are all metaphors.

Angel, for example, is that shitty, too old to be dating a high schooler immature dickbag that you absolutely should not get back with, even of he's gotten better, because it risks bringing back old patterns of bad behavior (losing his soul again and becoming a monster).

So everyone’s nervous right?

The over arching theme I keep seeing re the Buffy reboot/ sequel is that seemingly not that many fans want it. In fact it doesn’t seem like anyone’s asked?

Personally for me Buffy is pure nostalgia. It’s the 90s world I grew up in and although very different from a council estate in coastal England, it still reeks of that time and takes me back. That’s something special for a lot of people especially given the state of the world today in comparison. Season 1 is actually one of my faves! I love monster of the week. I don’t think I want it messed with and a new canon.

I don’t really wanna see a modern version. I don’t want to see the capitalist version of Buffy made by Disney who have churned out a load of remake crap for the last 10 years. I don’t wanna see product placement Buffy. Modern music rather than unknown indie artists? No thanks. I say no to Sabrina carpenter or Billie. Not because they aren’t great but because that’s not the vibe of Buffy.

And that’s what it’s gonna come down to. It’s the vibe of Buffy they will struggle to recreate. And even if they don’t it’s going to be hard to make something as good. We simply don’t make shows like that anymore. Everything’s too watered down, too low stakes, and I hate to say it but overall just dumber. Also part of what made Buffy so good was it dealt with monsters and then also our own demons and lesser natures. I can’t see them getting that down without using too heavy a hand.

But we will wait and see and I will absolutely go in with an open mind and fingers crossed it’s some exciting new addition to that universe. But if it’s terrible I am going to pretend it doesn’t exist just like Disney did with Willow the series 😆
