it’s like i really want to be able to recommend trying dq10 online with the fan translation tool but there are a lot of little things that don’t translate great and might be incomprehensible if you don’t know dragon quest in an autistic way like i do.

even my knowledge is limited bc i mostly care about the main series and have only played a few spin-offs

in dragon quest 9, 10, and 11 the games have in-game achievements always called "accolades" and they're specifically formatted as a title that could be given to the player e.g. say you slay a dragon you might get an accolade and it'll be like "dragon slayer."

in dq9 and dq10, since they're both multiplayer games, they have profiles you can set up with information displayed to other players including a title you can set for yourself. any accolade you've earned can be set as your title in both games. dq9 also has the option to set your title as a role/occupation from a list.

dq10 being an mmo means your title is going to be shown to lots of people and so there are a lot of option. of course you can still set an accolade but the other option has 2 very long lists as you pick a first half and a second half, TWO roles/occupations/general descriptors that you combine to make a title (you can set the first one as blank if you just want one word). earned grant you a bunch more terms to these lists in addition to letting you use that accolade as your title.

problem is, dq10 has never been localised (sorta. the offline version got chinese and korean localisations. the online version once had a chinese localisation that was discontinued). the fan translation has attempted to translate all the terms in these lists but it's a little jank cause the way it works is intended for japanese.

so i chose the first term セクシー (sekushii) as the word "sexy" adapted into katakana and the second term 竜 (ryū) as the kanji meaning dragon. so my title is now セクシー竜 or the fan translation translates those as "Sexy" and "Dragon" but we use these things called spaces while japnese usually does not so it ends up being rendered as "SexyDragon" which is good enough.

i also posted a screenshot of me changing it to SexyBrat and one of the pages of 2nd halves of a title which is why there's a list of things including "In your 30s" which idk what that is in japanese but i'm sure "SexyIn your 30s" makes more sense as the japanese terms shoved together. or maybe it's nonsense and just as funny
