Bart and Barry in Impulse: Bart Saves the Universe

The world isnât like the one I left behind. I mean⌠itâs the same, but itâs weird. Somethingâs missingâŚ
Bart in The Flash Vol. 5 Annual #2
Jordan Kent.
[ MISSION ] : for  our  muses  to  meet  on  a  mission @impclsivityâ
âI donât know what youâre talking about.â Jordan said to the costumed hero. He was in civilian clothes. Sure, they werenât exactly in the eyesight of the public⌠but what was this guy thinking approaching him like this? Besides, Jordan didnât really do the hero thing anymore. He still had the cape but he didnât feel all that worthy of it. Besides⌠this little Flash looking sidekick said Superman. âEven if I did⌠you got your Kents crossed. Youâre not looking for me.â
There were many things Bart had seen and heard about in his future that did not carry over into this present, or this timeline, if he was lucky enough to have successfully changed it yet. One of those harder to believe things were that the kid in front of him would grow up to be such a BADASS. Not that Bart could ever mention it to him but nonetheless, it was a big leap from the present. âWoops.â The lie slipped through his teeth like oxygen itself. âYou guys all just look so much alike with the blue eyes and black hair and-- Iâm a time traveler, so for all I knew you could be the CK and not the JK.â He wondered faintly if dropping the time travel bomb into normal conversation wasnât the best idea.Â
Barry Allen.
âHeyââ Barry frowned as Bart implied that he was losing his grip on his faculties. âIâm sure Iâm as sharp as ever in the future, thank you.â He raised his eyebrows as the younger man spoke. He got the feeling that he was trying too hard, but he couldnât figure out why Bart was bothering to lie to him after being so open. Maybe he was trying not to change too much about the future by keeping Barry in the dark about the details â then again, if that were true, heâd already given away a pretty big one. âItâs not really any of your business who Iâm with,â he said, and then frowned. âI mean, I guess it is, because it depends on â anyway, I donât want to talk about that.â He felt his stomach flip as the younger man spoke and he looked at him. âGrandma? I donât know, should you be calling her that?â
There was a fleeting moment of wistfulness at the thought of what his grandfather would have ACTUALLY been like in his old age hadnât he died before making it there. Heâd heard so many stories about the hero, but meeting him was something else entirely. All the elder heroes heâd ever met were pretty sharp though, so there was a good chance Barry would have remained so as well. If heâd been given the chance, that is. âEh. Agree to disagree.â He continued the lie, enjoying the light banter of it all (banter with his grandpa!). âI mean-- actually, it kinda might be? Given that my whole existence technically depends on it.â So many technicities of it, but Bart couldnât help but forgo to mention the biggest one. That he didnât care if he ceased to exist, just as long as his future did along with him. âI mean---â It was kinda shocking his grandparents hadnât hooked up yet, given how in love they supposedly were. It was a forgone conclusion in one world, but maybe not this one. âYou and Grandma ending up together, from everything Iâve heard, itâs kinda like the sky being blue, grass being green.â It just was, something that wasnât questioned because it just stood on itâs own naturally.Â
Nightwing called. Thought I might be of some help with this mess.

Tommy Shepherd.Â
Continued from here for @impclsivityâ
.
Tommy grinned as the other agreed with him so easily, the two of them clearly on the same wavelength. âRight? You totally get it!â he shook his head gently. âAnyways, uh, Iâm Tommy. Itâs super nice to meet you Mr familiar faceâ the blonde chuckled, outstretching his hand to the other. He had a lot of energy, something that Tommy could definitely relate to much to his friendsâ dismay.Â
âNice to meet you too Tommy!â Bart agreed quickly and with a speedy nod to his head. âYou could call me Bart!â He couldnât help his excitement, meeting new people was exciting. He took Tommyâs hand and shook it with fervor. âYou new around here Tommy? I am. If you know the ins and outs you wanna teach em to me maybe?â
Hal Jordanâ.
.
âAnd the right wordâ Hal replied looking at the other knowing they were about to commit some lawbreaking. âOkay but if Barry asks Iâm telling him you broke inâ He mused using his ring to create a key to unlock the door, after all, it wasnât the first time heâd broken into a friendâs place. âIt would be easier and less expensive though I wonder why you forget both your keys and your things.â
âYeppers, thats me. Always knowing the rightest of words.â It helped that he remembered every single word heâd ever read but twisted them to appear a bit less smart than he actually was (read: a LOT less smart looking). âSounds crash!â He didnât mind the bad blood forming, he could take it. Plus Bart doubted his super grandfather would be too offended. âWell thereâs a thing you should know about speedsters and that itâs weâre very fast about doing everything we forget things we gotta do sometimes.â He tried to pass off as an explanation.Â
Tim Drake.
.
âCrash?â he rose a brow, smirking softly. A lot of the time, Tim didnât really know what Bart was talking about but he always did his best to keep up. âThere was definitely sleepâŚâ He was unable to determine how much he had had exactly, but Tim had woken up in his bed, indicating that at the very least he had moved up from the cave when exhaustion began to set in. âWhat kind of games did you have in mind?â He wasnât alert enough for a patrol right now.Â
âYeup, you know, crash! Awesome, cool, amazing, the opposite of the mode, all that stuff!â He exclaimed with fierce nods of his head following his many words. âOkay but that is totally not an actual answer.â He pointed out just as jolly as heâd said anything else and without any judgement. âUhhhh maybe this century's games? I donât know how to actually play any of them so youâd need to put on your teaching goggles, which would be good practice for being team leader too so it works out for us both!â
Koriandâr.Â
âI believe it would be the combined experience.â she answered him. She let out a small giggle at his response. She envied his innocence, though some would argue she was just as innocent in her own right. It was then at that moment she realized he was not asking for a comparison. But rather, advice. âBartâŚhave you never been kissed?â she asked curiously. It was not to embarrass him but genuine curiosity. Kori was quite open about her love life and sometimes forgot not all were like her.
Bart nodded, inwardly taking notes. In his future something as simple as a kiss was the last thing on his mind. Hell, he half expected to be exposed or partake in other things before kisses. Though heâd been lucky enough to avoid those. If anyone understood the fear though itâd be the woman standing before him (he didnât like to think about it often, that theyâd both been slaves, but it was a truth). âOf course Iâve--â His first compulsion was to LIE, of course. But seeing the lack of judgment on her face, Bart realized this was the last person he needed to lie to. â... not really. Iâve never been... that.â He confessed sheepishly.Â

.
â - Okay, and please hear me out because this is going to sound really random and weird butâŚâ Tommy sighed, shaking his head as he realized heâd definitely been caught tailing the other. âDo you ever get a weird deja vu feeling about a face? Like youâve seen it before somewhere but you have absolutely no idea where? CauseâŚYou just have one of this faces, I guess. I donât knowâ
âWeird and random might be my middle names,â Bart joked though the words were fitting for the young man all the same. He was weird and random. Came with the trauma. âNo no I totally get it! Like some faces look s much the same and other faces look familiar but not exact and then some faces look alike and itâs all genetics too because people look like eachother but also age makes them look different and so its a whole thing!â He knew it well, knowing what people would look like into their old age was a fun thing. Mostly. Really not, actually.Â
Barry Allen.Â
-
âMath,â Barry repeated. âMath implies an equation of some sort, knowing what year it is just basically means being able to read. Or count, at most.â He raised his eyebrows. âDid I?â he said, and despite himself, a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. âThatâs pretty convenient for you and pretty good advice from me.â Not that it really sounded like something he would say, but he was already doubting enough of the kidâs story. He figured he should give him a little something. He snorted. âDonât worry, I wouldnât let you not-exist,â he said. âAs long as your grandmother is willing, of course.â Consent being extremely important and all. Barryâs frown deepened as Bart spoke. âIâm guessing itâs not Iris,â he said, the corners of his mouth turning down a little. He always held a kernel of hope for him and Iris West, even if they were with other people. Maybe it wasnât fair to either one of them, but he couldnât help himself.
âMan gramps youâre super smart like they all said, in your youth I mean cause obviously I knew you as an oldie and your math skills arenât as sharp there.â Lie lie lie, Bart felt a stab of guilt in his stomach for how easily they came out of his mouth. No, he only heard Barry of being good at math heâd never met the man. Not to mention Bartâs skills in maths were just as sharp, but he needed to underplay it (no matter how much he wanted to show off and have his gramps be proud of him, then again Barry might not really be believing him right now). âYeah youâre the best at advice! When youâre making sense.â He joked, and though the smile felt nice he didnât feel great about the lying. Actually Iâm here to change the future, not not-existing isnât my priority. But he didnât say that, he couldnât. âWha- so you ARE with Iris?â He mentally patted himself on the back for not letting grandma slip in there. Oh come on Bart, knowing theyâre endgame wonât change anything. âOr I guess I should call her Grandma?âÂ
Tim Drake.
Tim rose in brows, holding back a smirk as he watched Bart try to explain the plethora of reasons that he was obligated to hang out with him right now, waiting patiently for him to finish before he finally smirked, folding his book closed. âYou ever heard of just saying hey man, wanna go do something fun?â he teased. âWhat did you have in mind?â he asked, hoping that his boredom hadnât inspired any reckless ideas.Â
âYeah man that would be crash.â Well, Tim hadnât actually been asking him, more so showing Bart the easier way to be asking someone to hang out than all lame ones he had used prior. In Bartâs defense, asking someone to hang out wasnât really a lesson in the little amount of school he learned as a kid. He would remember for next time though, he was determined to say it right in the future. âAre we in the mood for something mission-y or game-type fun? Hold on, let me rephrase that question: how much sleep did you get last night?â It did impact what they would be doing after all.Â
Hal Jordan.Â
[ BREAK IN ] : for our muses to break in somewhere together | @impclsivityâ
Hal sighed looking at the other he shouldâve known Barry wouldâve given them a key if he wanted them in his apartment but at the same time speedsters were just in their own world. âLet me get this straight you want me to use my ring, which was a great honor given to me by aliens to craft a key to break into Barryâs place while he is at work?â He questions the other raising an eyebrow at them.
âBreak in is such a STRONG word.â Really, it was. Had all the bad connotations and everything. âItâs more likeeeeeee entering without a key.â Not really great either but it was better than breaking! âAnd itâs more like I forgot my key, and left my stuff in there and you could get the door open without breaking anything and I mean I could vibrate my molecules through the door but I figured this might be uh, easier?âÂ
