[tw/cw: very brief mention of self-harm & internalized ableism]
•For starters, his real name is Jacques Montagne!
-He’d much prefer people (excluding fans) calling him by his real name instead of “Joe”. But if someone (like Disco Kid) either refuses or keeps forgetting, he doesn’t make a big deal out of it & just goes along.
(I’ll still be referring to him as Joe for this post.)
General HCs:
•Loves intense roller-coasters/rides, but gets REALLY sick afterwards
-man would be throwing up after sum “XELERATOR 9000”, look up at “GUTZ TWISTRR” in the distance, and think “imma go on that one next”
•Gets motion sick really easily. If he looks at a computer screen for too long, he’ll get dizzy.
•He believes that clothing shouldn’t be gendered and would occasionally wear more feminine clothing…if his own embarrassment didn’t get the better of him.
-He has passed by dresses and skirts at shops, wondered what it’d be like to wear them, dismissed those thoughts, and walked away.
-However, if someone asked him to come to the function in a dress for twenty bucks, he’d gladly accept the offer. He’d make sure he looked good in that dress too.
•Pansexual; “Why should someone’s body change how much I love them?”
•Has a beautiful, smooth singing voice! Most times, however, he gets awkward and freezes up whenever someone tries to watch him sing.
-…with the exception of La Marseillaise, of course. He will belt his anthem LOUD and PROUD.
•Takes good care of his skin & hair
•Uses a hair roller (among other things) to make his iconic side-swept…tuft thing
•Gasps & flinches whenever there’s a slight sudden sound or when someone touches him without warning.
-One time, he literally jumped off of the benches in the locker rooms when Von Kaiser slammed his locker shut.
•His face is either super expressive & exaggerated or completely unreadable. No in-between.
•He’s got creepy eyes and he knows it. Whenever he wants to mess with someone or look threatening, he just stares into their soul. And other times he does it completely unintentionally!
•When it comes to alcohol, he likes red & white wine (red more). If those aren’t available, he won’t drink any other alcohol.
-Combining his low weight & his low alcohol tolerance, he gets tipsy really easily. However, he’s a responsible adult and makes sure he doesn’t get crazy drunk.
•Does not smoke
•Calls, sends voice messages, uses text-to-speech, anything but texting. He’s a reeeeeaaally slow texter.
•Came into professional boxing knowing he wasn’t going to win many matches, if any. He knew he never had a chance at climbing up the ranks. Trying is all he can do, really. And, by god, does he try! It’s his passion, after all.
•His 1 win is against Nick Bruiser. (I HC that Nick was the world champ at the time.)
-100% cried when he knocked out Nick (from the pain of fighting an absolute stud of a man & from the utter ecstasy of winning for the first time AND being world fucking champion)
-Both Rick & Nick retired afterwards, completely disappearing from the public eye.
-No one knows why he challenged Nick, and he won’t tell anyone. If someone tries asking Joe about his bout with him, he immediately changes the subject or outright refuses to answer.
-The fight was never aired on TV. No footage can be found. People who were physically there to watch the fight either “don’t remember”, have huge gaps in their memory, give an incredibly vague retelling, or refuse to talk about what happened. “Glass Joe vs. Nick Bruiser” is one of, if not, the most controversial fight in WVBA history.
•Desperately wanted & still wants to display France’s tricolor on his boxing trunks, but, for whatever reason, the WVBA doesn’t allow it. That’s why there’s only red & white on his trunks. He’s very salty about it.
-Ever so slightly envies Don Flamenco.
•Almost never eats 3 meals a day; Usually just has brunch & dinner
-His appetite is basically nonexistent. He won’t eat until it physically hurts NOT to eat… unless it comes to bread & coffee. (of course lmao)
-There’s been many times where all he eats the whole day is bread.
•Has grown up & always been thin. His bmi worries all the doctors he goes to. Sometimes he actually tries to gain a bit more weight, but it never works out.
-It’s also a big thing his family teases him about. His maman knows it’s just how he is. Other family members are genuinely worried & think he has some kind of eating disorder.
•Carries around a messenger bag when going out. Inside said bag is: an entire first-aid kit (including a stapler), a small box w/ a variety of pills, his apartment keys, his wallet, a pencil, a datebook, and a small bottle of lotion.
•Has knowledge of treating & caring for minor injuries (small cuts, deep-ish gashes, bruised ribs, scrapes/scratches, puncture wounds, infected wounds, etc.)
•Masochist; Has had a love for physical pain since childhood
-Has a big habit of pressing down on his bruises (among other inflictions of pain), so much so that they spread & take wayyy longer than normal to heal. No wonder he’s never without them!
-It might actually be a self-inflicted harm addiction. He doesn’t plan on telling anyone about this part of himself.
Disability HCs:
•He lost his right eye as a result of his fight with Nick Bruiser. It was damaged so badly it couldn’t function & needed to be surgically removed. Now he wears a prosthesis! (or, a “glass eye”. i’m hilarious, aren’t i.)
-His iconic hair swoop came from attempting to hide/distract from his missing eye until he could get said prosthesis. It ended up becoming a major part of his stage persona, so he kept it (and started liking it too!).
•Has nerve damage (weakness, sensitivity, and occasional spikes of pain) in his left leg from a *childhood injury.
-He doesn’t really do anything about the pain outside of physical therapy.
•Diagnosed with dystaxia since he was 14
-He’s VERY tight-lipped about it. Whenever anyone points out his abnormal movements, he chalks it up to “being clumsy” or “not getting enough sleep”.
-This, combined with his bad leg, would make a cane really useful. However, he doesn’t use one (even in private) & insists it wouldn’t be needed.
Childhood HCs:
•Only child
•Raised by his mother; Never knew his father & only saw him a handful of times
-Joe doesn’t care much about his father, even now, but he can’t help wondering about him & missing what could’ve been.
•Grew up middle class
-Lived in a sizable apartment. His mother had enough money to get an actual house, but they were comfortable where they were (and she didn’t want the hassle of moving stuff around).
•At 11 years old, a friend of his convinced him to join a very unprofessional fight club (consisting between 10-20 members at the time). This is what introduced him to fighting for fun/for sport!
•He was real shy & insecure before joining the club. Afterwards, he became a lot more confident! (It’s a big reason behind the bolder parts of his personality today.)
-Most of the members were warm & welcoming, and he ended up befriending most of them as well!
-However, the club members were also pretty bad influences, getting him into many dangerous, even life-threatening, situations.
-In the present day, he’s only in-contact with a couple members (who are still good friends of his).
•Had DOZENS of near-death experiences. (And only a few, his maman ever knew about)
-One of the worst of those experiences included him *getting stabbed in the thigh and bleeding out. (He’s around 14 here.) Following this incident, he and his maman would move out of Paris & into Marseille, her hometown. Joe’s mental & physical health TANKED during this time.
•He stayed in Marseille until he moved to New York City to join the WVBA at 18 years old!
1 Oddly Specific Headcanon:
•One night, he accepted Disco Kid’s invite to hang out at a karaoke bar. Some other boxers they recognized were there as well. Joe spent most of the night chatting, laughing, and sipping on wine. After insistent & excessive convincing from Disco, he sung 1 song: Maybe This Time (by Cabaret; specifically Liza Minnelli’s cover).
-The gates of heaven opened up. He really did put his heart into that song. (IT’S LITERALLY THE PERFECT SONG FOR HIM.. GIVE IT A LISTEN.)
-Disco brings it up sometimes, and Joe gets all bashful & awkward :] (but he really is proud of his baritone pipes!)

That’s all! If you have any HCs of your own, please do share with us ^^
Note: I’m sure none of what is shown here is new. But look! Something new-ish!!! It only really explains each characters move set, and challenges (both Contender and Title Defense). And a page going over the franchise. Enjoy reading nerds!

Grew up in Trinidad until she turned 16, her father introducing her into boxing in America at the age of 18. She had a boxing tournament in school, immediately participating in it. The school has lost many championships, but Trinity caused them their first ever win after 30 years.
As she grew older, boxing became a serious sport in her life.
RANK :: CHALLENGER

I am not completely done with her but I have this ! !
Her weakness is when her head scarf slowly starts to fall off.
She likes to give uppercuts to her opponent, it causes more damage than her other moves.
She likes music, so a way to distract her opponent is to talk about it. She’d either ramble about her taste in music until the opponent is bored and she’ll hit them, or she’d say ‘Y’know, there’s this new music genre that I just found out about! It’s called… BAM!’
She is best friends with Disco Kid, Bob Charlie’s cousin and has something going on with Aran Ryan……. .
