Presidents Should Have Empathy, Assertiveness and Brain.
"When Trayvon Martin was first shot, I said that this could have been my son," President Obama told reporters Friday afternoon. "Another way of saying that is Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago." - President Obama at the White House on Friday (19/7)
We really need to stop this racial prejudice. Nobody deserves to be shot to death just because of his skin, religion or social class. We are humans, we are equal. As an Indonesian, i may not relate so much with this tragedy. I appreciate how President Barrack Obama eventually decided to open up and spoke in front of the people to address the issue. In my opinion, it was not President Obama trying to turned down the heating tension among the Black communities. It was a form of empathy--he positioned himself as a part of the community. He is also a citizen, just like other people. Unlike our President and his congress.
It was in the middle of the night when I read one of my friends retweeted about the Trayvon Martin's case and the verdict. For some people in Indonesia, this was not a hit news. Cory Monteith death was. In fact, if you ask any Indonesians who is Trayvon and what happened to him, not even 1% of the population will have a clue.
Since I read the tweet, I searched more information about the case. It was such a heart-tearing story. I almost cried when TIME interviewed Trayvon's parents, because I kept imagining what if the tragedy happened to my brother. He lives in Jakarta, the big city. More well known as the city with the highest crime and unfriendly environment. As student, he often comes home late from his study group and sometimes the bad thought stroke me, wondering if something bad happens. I cannot calm myself. Especially because of the racial news I heard about how the Government do not speak a word for the extremists activities in Indonesia.
They know terror happens, but they do not have guts to address it. They let us, the people scare and feel unsafe in our neighborhood. It was surprising that he had guts to receive the Religious Freedom Award from the A New York-based interfaith organization, Appeal of Conscience Foundation (ACF). Meanwhile there are many religious based violent cases where the FPI or other extremist groups try to close churches and even a Minister was able to come out with this statement. We still hear the new about the effort to embark or eliminate the Ahmadiyah communities, even to some schools have taught extreme religious teachings.
Surprisingly, instead of addressing this sensitive issues they keep filling their pockets, f*cking up the society and celebrating the triumph joy of corruption. Well done, gentlemen. It's almost 2014 and they're about to have another National Election. Great, I wish the next Presidency candidates won't be stupid *ssholes with shitty political promises.
