excitement bubbled warmly underneath her skin. harley was everything sulin aspired to be; practiced, mature, collected. her pedestal gleamed with experience and poised. meanwhile sulin remained ankle-deep in the dirt with not even a stool to stand on. despite all her accolades her personality still fell lacking of the same cool apathy harley wore as a shield. it was a gift, she thought, to be able to genuinely not care.Ā āah really!ā her visage brightened. sulinās naivete was a second skin and to the sharks in the water, she smelled of blood.Ā āi mean i wouldnāt want to keep you from doing something fun with you friends. you donāt need to babysit me i-i mean we could go to lunch. i should pay though iām already taking up your time as is.ā

* : ļ½„ ļ¾ā§ / /Ā minjun really has nothing to lose. on a whim heās moved to a new city, throwing away his old life in hopes of getting his fresh start in the form or a rather run down apartment and various odd jobs that can barely cover his cost of living. he has no friends in daegu, not even a single acquaintance, and heās long past clinging onto anything resembling a family member. itās not exactly lonely for him yet. however, the constant feeling of wasted time ticking around him and lack of any solid progress makes him feel anxious these days. itās as if he doesnāt go out there and accomplish something,Ā anything, heāll have nothing to prove to the world. or to his parents if he ever unfortunately had to go crawling back to them for help someday.Ā
so, he decides to throw himself out into the world one day. whimsically creating an account on a language exchange app, simply because he has nothing better to do and he finds himself pretty good at learning languages. eventually this leads him to meeting up with a stranger in a cafe. theyāve only exchanged a few words and formalities in text before, but actually finding the person heās supposed to meet becomes a challenge. after all, theyāre on a blind meetup. he doesnāt know what his partner looks like. it becomes a game of guessing which one of these people could match that personās words. minjun finds his fingers fidgeting around in the oversized long sleeves of his striped shirt. itās then that he realizes his love of dark clothes and rather edgy image probably donāt match his texting style that well eitherā¦
if there was anything sulin was practiced in besides figure skating it was the art of forgetfulness. her memory ebbed and flowed with the lines of her skate. the further heights she reached in practice; the further her memories found recesses of her mind to hide in. she hurriedly thanked the bus driver nearly tripping over herself in an effort to meet her language exchange partner on time. she stopped short mind swirling with possibilities. wouldnāt they find it odd, a chinese girl wanting to learn chinese.Ā sulin sighed heavily resolving that no amount of oddity was worth sacrificing a valuable learning experience. gross; she sounded like mom.Ā
she was quite the picture in the remnants of her practice wear; a pair of leggings and the first t-shirt in her bag (a girlās generation shirt sheād procured at one of their concerts) which sported an unsightly kool-aid stain. blonde hair fell from her bun leaving her like a woman whoād just stood in a wind tunnel for a good couple minutes. her face flushed in embarrassment as she approached what she supposed to be her partner.Ā āsorry,ā she said tucking a lock of hair behind her ear,Ā āare you kwon minjun?ā

sulin has never known where she belonged, the influences of three cultures fighting inside her have turned her into someone she never anticipatedĀ
originally born jiang sulin she moved from china to america at age one after her grandmotherās death. her parents had nothing holding them in china anymore so chose to start a new adventure
by age three her life came crashing down when her parents died in a car wreck. luckily the im family adopted herĀ
just like that she once again had two loving parents and this time a big brother (daeseong) as an added bonusĀ
but growing up in america was hard, especially as a chinese girl struggling to find her identity in a korean familyĀ
the only unchanging part of her life was her love of figure skating
sulin excelled in anything she put her mind to but her natural aptitude set her on a path towards the olympiad even as a young girlĀ
she found even more success in figure skating when her family moved back to korea in her middle school yearsĀ
unfortunately already a girl prone to bullying for her strange heritage she invested all of her time and energy into skating
now attending university and spending her time training sulin is an introverted girl lacking in social graces but dedicated to her craftĀ
she struggles with insecurity and feels she has an inability to make friends and her time would be better served productively skatingĀ
she has a good heart but often struggles with how to say things in the way she wants to and has a tendency for bluntness
