I still have several things to type up, but I am accepting prompts again. I won’t be putting them first in line and forcing myself to get them out ahead of everything else I’m writing, since that’s what burnt me out before, but I will try to work on them when I have inspiration to.

Will met Nico at his apartment at ten-thirty the next morning, bright and grinning. “Good morning, boyfriend.”
Nico, who hadn’t bathed or put on pants yet, gave him a droll stare. “What are you doing?”
“Picking you up for lunch. I hope you’re not going like that. Not that I really mind, per sey. But it’s a little inappropriate, don’t you think?”
Nico rolled his eyes and went back inside, leaving the door open. He fell face first onto the couch.
“Aren’t you going to get ready? Lunch is in a half hour.” Will closed the door, looking around. “Your apartment’s a mess.”
Nico curled up on his side. “My family expects me to be late.”
“Okay. But I’d like to make a good impression if I can.” He nudged a shirt with his foot. “So we shouldn’t be even more late than we already will be.”
Nico groaned. “You’re so pushy. My dad will like you, Hazel will like you, Bianca will hate you. Nothing we do will change that.”
“What? Why?”
Nico shrugged. “Dad’ll like that you’re not the guy I used to like in high school. Hazel likes everyone I date at first, and you’re super nice. And Bi’s really protective. Always has been.” He sat up, looking at Will. “As long as you just act like yourself, you’ll be fine.”
Will began to grin. “Just be myself?”
Nico rolled his eyes. “Whatever.” He got back up and stretched himself out. “I’m going to shower. Make yourself at home.”
When he got out of the shower, his towel wrapped around his waist, he went directly to the living room to grab some cleanish clothes off the floor, and froze.
He hadn’t been in the shower very long, maybe fifteen or twenty minutes, but all of his clothes were in the hamper by his door that usually housed his clean clothing until it was empty, his trash had been bagged, and his DVD’s and games had been sorted and put away. “I’ve been robbed.”
He went to the kitchen, where he heard running water to find Will doing his dishes.
“Hey.” He didn’t look up.
“What are you doing?”
“You said to make myself at home.”
“I didn’t mean to clean my apartment.”
“How am I supposed to relax in this mess?” He looked up at Nico, stalling, his eyes widening. He wore a slight blush, making Nico feel self conscious.
“How can anyone life in a mess like this?” His voice was thick. He motioned to the entirety of Nico’s small kitchen.
Nico crossed his arms. “It’s not that bad.”
“Really? How long has that stuff been stuck to your stove?”
He shrugged.
“That’s disgusting.”
The door opened and they both looked up, though they couldn’t see who it was.
“Oh my god. You’ve been robbed.”
Nico sighed. “In here.”
Jason peaked around the corner with his head, his body following. “Oh.” He smile disappeared as he looked between Nico and Will, and then came back wider when he saw Nico’s current state. “Hello.”
Nico rolled his eyes. “I’m getting dressed.:
He went to his room and donned a pair of ripped jeans with doodles all over them, and a plain black shirt. Good enough.
Will looked him over. “Really?”
“Yep.”
He shook his head. “It’s already almost eleven. We should go.”
Jason looked to Will, trying pathetically to hide his grin. “Will’s going to meet your family with you?”
Nico glared at him. “Yes, he is.”
“Awesome.” He put a hand on Will’s shoulder. “Good luck.”
“What?” Will looked to Nico, a bit pale.
“Jason, get out.”
Jason put a hand to his chest. “What?”
“Leave.”
“But why?”
Nico grit his teeth. “Get out.”
Jason’s fasad broke, and he let out a “snerk”. “Aw, don’t he like that Neeks.”
“Go.”
He shrugged. “Nice seeing you again, Will. Have fun on your date.” He gave Nico a wave, wiggling his fingers at him.
Will watched him leave the room, staring at the doorway until they heard the door close, then turned back to Nico. “Why was he wishing me good luck?”
Nico rolled his eyes. “Bi and Jason don’t get along.” He went to the bathroom to brush his hair. “He’s just glad he doesn’t have to go anymore.”
“Ah. So I shouldn’t be worried?”
Well, I mean, Bi’s not gonna like you. And, by the time she’d come around, this whole thing will be over. So it doesn’t really matter.”
“Right.” Will dried his hands on a towel Nico kept on top of the microwave. “That’s good.” He tossed it in with Nico’s other dirty clothes. “We should go.”
Nico didn’t bother trying to help Will feel more at ease. He’d learn after today. He just grabbed his jacket and followed his “boyfriend” out.

Nico’s hands shook as he waited for his group’s history presentation. He looked to Jason, who looked annoyingly fine. “Are you sure you want to do this? We can still remove my parts.”
“It’ll be fine.”
He looked around at the people filing into the classroom. “Pretty sure it won’t be.”
“Nico.” Jason put a hand on his shoulder. “It’ll be fine.”
He looked at Jason’s hand, his eyebrow twitching. “You are putting way too much faith in me.” He removed the hand, dropping it back down on the desk.
Jason shrugged with one shoulder, his ease frustrating Nico further. “My family has a history of misunderstandings and poor decisions. I like to be open to changing my opinions.”
Nico wasn’t familiar with Jason’s family’s story. He made a note to look it up over break.
Piper sat down on the other side of Jason, leaning forward, her hands gripping the sides of her seat, and smiled at Nico. “Ready?”
He groaned, putting his face to his desk.
Jason laughed. “I don’t think Nico likes being the centre of attention.”
“Aw. Don’t worry, Neeks. It’ll be fine.”
He sat up and glared at her. “Will you stop saying that?”
She lifted her hands up, palms facing him, and leant back.
“Look at it this way.” Jason leant forward, his forearms on the desk. “The sooner we do this, the sooner it’ll be over.”
And the sooner he could be rid of Jason and Piper.
The thought left him feeling a bit hollow.
They were the second group to present. Nico gripped his note cards so hard he tore a few around the edges, feeling everyone’s eyes on them. He kept his eyes on the floor while Jason spoke.
“Princess Aurora’s parents, when she was born, threw a grand party, and they invited three good fairy’s. However, they left out one of the strongest in the land; Maleficent.”
Nico knew his queue, He’d practiced it over and over with Will, who, he decided, was made of at least fifty-percent patience.
“Births were public affairs.” His voice shook, and he stared at his note cards, but he projected and recited his lines as he’d done in his dorm room. “To not be invited was a huge insult to Maleficent. And, to be turned away so publicly was unheard of.”
The rest of the presentation went that way, with Jason and piper giving good information, and Nico following with evil. He didn’t look up once, but he also didn’t stumble, either.
As soon as Professor Maryweather dismissed them, her tone giving nothing of her opinion away, he went back to his seat, hiding between Jason and Piper. He spent the rest of class slouching in his seat, trying to hide from the rest of the class.
It was over. He probably failed, what with defending Maleficent in a class taught by one of her adversaries, but it was over. He only had to take a final and he was done.

Nico’s first presentation was with Frank, and it went off without a hitch. And he had to admit, he liked working with him. Sure, he was uncomfortable around Nico, but he didn’t treat him like he was unable to do his own part of the project.
But, by far, his favourite person to work with was Reyna. And this included other villains for small projects throughout the semester. She quickly dismissed her apprehension about the coffee house and the two got right to work.
Reyna treated him like an equal in the project, despite being a villain, and being two years younger. He had his own work that he did, and she helped him with the things he had trouble with without judgement, and listened to him when he spoke in the same manner. Other than that they rarely spoke. It was the perfect arrangement for him.
Will put his hands on his hips as he watched the two of them say good bye after a particularly long study session. “I knew you’d like Reyna.”
Nico rolled his eyes. “Whatever.” But his lip twitched. “Let’s just go get some food.”
On their way to the cafeteria, they entered a hall with a small group of people conglomerated outside the bathrooms, with Percy in the centre.
Nico froze, Will walking a few more feet before turning around to look at him.
“What’s wrong?”
His heart was beat like crazy. He had to get out of there.
Percy looked at him, locking eyes with him for a moment, and Nico looked down. “Nico?”
He gripped his bag strap. He couldn’t breathe.
Percy made his way over to him. “I thought you got kicked out. I haven’t seen you all year.”
Nico’s eyes trailed up Percy’s body as he lifted them to look at his face. His pulse rushed. He could feel every beat travel up his neck and into his jaw.
He swallowed. “I’ve been busy.”
Percy looked to Will and nodded amiably at him. “I’m glad to see you’re still here.”
“Yeah.”
Something in Will’s eyes changed, and he wrapped an arm around Nico’s shoulder, making him jump. “Sorry, Percy, but we’re kind of in a hurry. Can you two catch up later?”
“Oh, yeah.” Percy stepped back. “I’ll catch you later, all right Neeks?”
“Yeah.” Nico looked down, and let Will lead him down the hallway.
His mouth was dry and his hands were shaking when they finally went out the double doors to the courtyard. He took a breath and looked up at Will, his face still red. “Thanks.”
Will smiled at him. “No problem.” He squeezed Nico’s shoulder.
Nico thought he’d let him go, but instead he led him the rest of the way to the cafeteria, and Nico let him. He was growing slowly used to this simple kind of intimacy.

Damian was twenty-three when he finally saw Mari again, after a fight with one of the new Joker-esque gangs that had started to surface in recent months.
They were stupid kids who had no idea what they were emulating. The oldest he’d dealt with was maybe fourteen, just punk kids who weren’t old enough to remember the true horrors of the original monster.
Yet, when he saw her, he couldn’t help but grin.
“Don’t think that my being here means I’m not still mad at you.”
“Okay.”
She huffed, putting her hands on her hips. “You’re still an ass.”
“Okay.”
“And I still haven’t forgiven you for abandoning me for three years.”
“Okay.”
“Would you stop saying ‘okay’?”
He reached out and took a lock of her hair, twisting it around a finger. “It’s good to see you again, Nightstar.”
She blushed and turned away from him. “No fraternizing on the job, Batman.” She grabbed the back of the shirt of one of the kids he’d apprehended. “We need to get these runts to the authorities.”
She took off with him, leaving Damian with the other two.
When one of them laughed at him for breaking his dark knight mask, Damian knocked him out and took them to the police station, Mari already gone when he got there.

Jason was awkwardly nice to Nico the next time they worked together, frustrating Nico and confusing Piper. He offered to help Nico out when he was confused, and even tried to start a conversation.
Did he think that just because he knew about Nico’s crush that they were friends now? Less than a week ago they were trading blows.
For now they just needed to get through this project. Then all the goodies would go home for break and he would finally have some time to himself.
“Hey, Nico.” Jason glanced up at him. “Do you wanna catch dinner with us after this?”
“I’m actually going to do something before dinner.”
“Yeah? We could get dinner a little later.”
“No thanks.”
“Oh. Okay.” Jason sat back, letting out a breathy, audible sigh.
Nico closed the book he was using and passed it to Piper.
“I was wondering, Nico.” Piper flipped through his notes. “You’re actually really good at history. So why is your grade so low?”
Nico glanced up at them without moving his head. Jason watched him, while Piper kept her eyes down. He looked back to his tablet. “The history they taught us on the Isle was different.”
They both stopped what they were doing and stared at him.
He looked between them. “What?”
“Different like how?”
He shrugged. “Just a greater focus on evil.”
Piper looked to Jason and he nodded. “Teach us about it.”
“What?” Nico scooted back.
“Teach us about it. We could use it as a contrast to what we learn here.”
“What? But, I don’t have any of my books here. We wouldn’t be able to source it.”
Jason shrugged. “That’s fine. We can just message someone on the Isle, and they can help us.”
“Totally. Except for that part where there’s not tech on the island. Which means no phones, no computers, and no wifi.” HE counted them on his fingers and held them out to Jason.
“Oh, right.” Jason sat back.
“Well, why don’t we do it anyway?” Piper sat up straight, lifting herself so she could reposition her bum on the chair. “As long as you know what you’re talking about, what’s the worse that could happen?”
“Yeah.” Jason leant toward him, grinning, his eyes bright. “So we get a few points taken off. At least our presentation will be unique.”
“Slow down there, mister perfect.”
“Mister perfect?”
“The other day you were super paranoid about your straight A’s.”
“Well, actually, it was less about my grades, and more about, well.” He lowered his voice. “You.”
“Yeah.” Nico locked eyes with him. “I kinda got that impression.”
Jason flushed, looking toward Piper.
“This is gonna take a lot of trust. I could lie to you about everything.”
Piper, predictably, looked uncomfortable at that. She turned to Jason, searching for some sort of guidance in his face.
He held her gaze for a long moment, then smiled at Nico, looking him directly in the eye. “I trust you.”
Nico’s jaw fell. He looked to Piper, who would surely talk some sense into him.
She shrugged. “If Jason’s up for it, then I am, too. His grades are better than mine, anyway.”
Nico pinched the bridge of his nose, squeezing his eyes shut. “You’re both crazy.”
“Yeah.” Jason sat back. “LIke mother, like son, right?” He looked to Piper.
“My mum made her name by trusting people.”
Nico heaved a heavy sigh. “Fine. You’re loss if this goes bad.”
“Awesome.” Jason pulled his laptop in front of him, ready to type. “Now, teach us.”

Will hated the fact that they’d changed the school districts around to include his street (and nothing past it) in the next school over so he had to start high school without his friends.
Not that anything else in his life had changed. He still shared the same room with his brother they’d had since he was three. He still had all the same hand-me-down clothes he’d been wearing for the last year, and he still had the same two friends he’d had since kindergarten.
He’d always been a relative loner, too. Not by choice. He just had a hard time making friends. Which was why he clung so hard to the ones he had, even when it seemed like they were getting tired of him.
So, as much as it sucked to be completely alone at this new school, it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary for him.
Until a kid that gave him an immediate sense of mistrust sat across from him at lunch on his first day. “Hey.”
“Um.” Will looked around to see if there was anyone else he could be talking to, but the only other occupants of his table were on the other end. “Are you talking to me?”
“Yep. Name’s Cecil.” He held his hand out for Will to shake.
He awkwardly took it.
A girl sat beside Cecil. “Hey. Who’s this?” She looked to Will.
“No idea. What’s your name?”
“Uh. Will.”
“This is Will.”
“Hey, Will.” The girl waved to him. Then she turned to Cecil. “Well? Are you going to introduce me or what?”
“Will, this is Lou Ellen.” He gestured to her with a dramatic wave of his hand.
“Right. Hi, Lou Ellen.”
“A pleasure. So, what classes are you taking?”
And just like that he had two new friends.
His new friends weren’t in any of his classes, unfortunately. Lou Ellen was an artist, and, in his own words, Cecil was just lazy, so they were at different levels.
The very last class he attended was study hall, if you could call that a class. And it was the only one that made any impression on him, because, during role call, when the teacher had called a “Nico Angelo”, a voice piped up from behind him, making him jump. He wasn’t aware was even there, which was horrible of him.
“Di Angelo.”
Will turned around to look at him, and realised why he hadn’t noticed him.
He was dark, from head to toe, in that way that screamed “look at me but leave me alone”, and just sort of faded into the background when you weren’t looking. His hair curled around his eyes, his lashes were long, he was very thin (Will didn’t think it was a natural thinness), and his clothes were baggy.
But what stood out the most to him were the doodles that encompassed one entire pant leg.
Will cleared his throat. “I like your pants.”
Nico di Angelo’s eyes moved to look at him in one motion, and his head followed in another. “What?”
Will blushed, feeling anxious and unsure why he tried saying anything. “Your pants. I like your pants.”
“Oh.” Nico looked at them. “Thanks.”
He pulled his headphones from his bag and put them on, signaling a sudden end to their conversation.
Will took another moment to look at him as he turned passively to the window.
He was very pretty, his profile elegant despite how sickly he looked. His hair had a silky texture to it.
And that was how Will got a crush on his first day of school.
Cecil and Lou Ellen invited themselves over to his house after school. So he led them up to his room where they sprawled out over his bed and floor for homework.
Lou Ellen grabbed one of his notebooks, which he didn’t take any notice of for half a second before he remembered what was in it.
“Wait.”
Lou Ellen pulled it out of his reach. “Who’s NdA?”
“No one. Give it back.”
“Let me see.”
She handed it to Cecil. “NdA. Hm.” He rolled onto his back when Will lunged for it. “Are you into Nico di Angelo?”
Will blushed. “No.”
“You are.” Cecil grinned at him. “You’re gay?”
“No, I’m not.” He tore the notebook from Cecil’s hands. “I’m bi, if you must know.”
“You know, I think that kids dating that senior, Reyna.”
“No.” Lou Ellen passed Cecil her finished math homework for him to copy. “They’re just friends. I heard that met at that summer programme Coach Hedge runs. The one where you hike across Europe.”
Cecil made a face. “Ew.”
“Yep.”
Will sat back on his bed. “So, wait. He’s the outdoors type?” That was surprising.
“Yeah. A total jock.” Lou Ellen grinned. “Really surprising, right? He looks like he can barely lift his backpack without toppling over. But he can totally out push up Jason, that football player. I’ve seen it.”
Will bit his lip. That sounded really attractive, actually.
“Dude, you’re blushing.” Cecil pointed at Will’s face for emphasis.
“Shut up.”
“You’ve got it bad.” Lou Ellen looked down her nose at her literature book, like she was being all innocent. “And on the first day of school, too.”
Will fell face first into one of his pillows and groaned.
He kept trying to talk to Nico, every day. And, while he only received short answers, he was encouraged by the way Nico never seemed annoyed with him. He probably assumed Will would give up. But he didn’t, surprising himself.
It took two months, but Will finally got a conversation out of him.
“So, I heard you’re on the track team.”
“You heard?”
Will blushed. “Yeah. Just someone mentioning it in the hall.”
Nico nodded, looking back to the window, and Will thought the conversation was over until he spoke again. “Yeah, I am.”
Will turned back to him. “Yeah? Which events?”
“Just high jump and pole vault.”
“Just? Those seem super cool to me. And the pole vault looks dangerous.”
Nico shrugged. “There are safety precautions.”
There was a pause.
“Can I come to a meet some time?”
Nico looked at him. “You can do whatever you want.” He put his headphones on and turned back to the window.
Was that a yes? Will was taking that as a yes.
There was a meet at the school Will would have attended only a couple weeks later.
He found a spot near the high jump and sat, waiting for the events to start.
He saw Nico stretching not too far away, and gave him a grin and a wave when he looked over.
Nico turned away without acknowledging him.
That was okay. They were making progress.
A blond girl from another team walked over to him, ruffling his hair. A very attractive blond that Nico smiled at.
Will pouted, leaning forward onto his hands, propped up on his knees.
Another girl chastised the blond and started to brush Nico’s hair, pulling it into a ponytail, so it was out of his face, making him scowl.
Will watching him with awe. He’d never seen his expression change before. It was nice.
They started to line up, the judge calling the first person to jump.
“Will?”
He looked up, seeing one of his friends grinning at him.
“Hey.” He stood up as they came over.
“We haven’t seen you in forever.” Alabaster put his arm around WIll’s shoulders. “How are you liking your new school?”
“It’s pretty cool, actually. I really like it.”
There was something cold about the way Will felt that he wasn’t used to. He was excited, of course, to see them, but not as much as he’d expected to be. It was like the ten miles that separated their schools were the entire world.
“That’s cool.” The disinterest in Ethan’s tone made Will’s smile falter.
“Hey, so we’re going to Georges for some Pizza with the guys after the meet. Wanna come?”
Will fidgeted. He hated the guys, and the guys hated him. “I actually have plans with some friends already.”
“Friends?” Ethan raised a brow at him.
He looked down. “Um, yeah.
“Will.” A girl he’d never met walked up beside him. “I couldn’t find you.”
She was very cute. Short, brown hair, dark skin, a hint of a southern accent.
He glanced at the guys, then smiled at her. “Yeah. I got here early so I could get a good seat.”
“We’re gonna head back.” Alabaster gave him a wave, and they left.
Will turned to the girl. “Thanks for that.”
“No problem. I used to have friends like that.” She wrinkled her nose and glared. “I’m Hazel, by the way.”
“Will. But you already knew that.”
“I heard them call you.”
They sat down and chatted for a few minutes while they waited. Apparently she was there for her brother, and Will looked around for who he could be.
“Oh deck, Nico di Angelo.”
Will looked up, seeing Nico standing near the mat, breathing deeply.
The next jumper went, and the man looked at his clipboard. “On deck, Miranda Gardiner. Next up, Nico di Angelo.”
Hazel shot to her feet, cupping her hands around her mouth. “Go Nico!”
He looked over to her, his blush obvious on his too pale skin. But he smiled and gave her a wave.
Will laughed. He stood up and joined her, calling out Nico’s name, making his shy smile turn to a flustered scowl.
Hazel shouted louder, and he did, too, both of them being spurred on by each other's energy.
Will tapered off as Nico ran toward the bar, his feet pounding, gripping the floor, and pushing forward with a force he didn’t look like he could produce.
He grabbed Hazel’s hand as Nico jumped, causing her to look up at him, but he kept his eyes forward. He was transfixed by the way Nico’s body twisted, and how he seemed to float at that one, long moment at the very height of his jump before gravity yanked him back down.
Will blushed when he realised what he’d done and apologised.
“It’s fine. So are you friends with my brother, then?”
Will started to shrug, but he kept his shoulders up instead of finishing the motion. “Not really. We have study hall together. But I’m trying to be.”
She nodded. “Good. He needs more friends.”
“I’m not so sure that’s a problem. He’s always surrounded by people at school.”
“Yeah. But that’s school. He always comes home after practice and locks himself in his room alone.” She waved to another person on the team. “I’d like to see him get out more.”
“What are you two talking about?”
Will shot to his feet again, nearly knocking into Nico, his face red. “Um, nothing. Hello.”
Nico looked up at him for a moment. “So since when were you two friends?”
Hazel grinned at Will. “Since about twenty minutes ago.”
“Hey, sorry I’m late.”
Will looked over at a guy he could only really describe as a better version of himself.
He felt immediately insignificant next to him, and, admittedly, a little jealous at the easy expression Nico directed at him. How could Will get that close to him?
“Did I miss you jump?”
“Only the first time.”
“Oh good.” He tossed his bag on the floor at his feet and sat down on the other side of Hazel.
“On deck Nico di Angelo.”
“Well, that’s me.” He gave Will 2.0 and Hazel a wave and went back to the mat.
Did he just get blown off?
“Hey, who’s this?” Will 2.0 leant around Hazel to get a look at him.
“Hey.” He smiled. He had no reason to be callous toward this guy. It wasn’t his fault he was visually better than will in every single way, and that he was friends with Nico, while Will could barely get him to talk to him. “I’m Will.”
“Hey, Will. Jason.”
Will gave him a nod and turned his attention forward as Nico’s turn came up.
He didn’t join in with Hazel’s and Jason’s cheers this time. He just watched his jump with his hands on his lap, feeling a little disillusioned, his body heavy.
Will left after Nico’s event was over (he didn’t win), even though he was invited to dinner with everyone. He just couldn’t shake the dark feeling.
So, instead, he went home and laid in his bed, staring at the ceiling in the dark.
He didn’t feel any better Monday morning, but he smiled at his friends when they talked with him.
Oddly, Jason gave him a high five as they passed each other in the hall.
“Okay, what did I miss?” Cecil walked backward, watching Jason until they turned the corner.
“Yeah. Since when are you friends with Jason Grace?” Lou Ellen gasped. “Are you going to ditch us to be popular?”
“What? No. I met him at the track meet. Briefly.”
They all stopped in front of Cecil and Lou Ellen’s classroom.
“You better not.” Lou Ellen stuck a finger in his face. “You owe all your popularity to us. We made you and we can unmake you.”
Will felt sick, even while he laughed. She was right. They were his only friends. Without them, he was alone. “Don’t worry. I’m not going anywhere. Except to class. See you after school.”
Seeing Nico in study hall was uncomfortable. But he took his usual spot in front of him and gave his usual hello. “So you did really well at the meet Saturday.”
Nico shrugged. “It was pretty average.”
“Still. I think that’s even cooler. It means you do that well all the time.”
He received a hum from Nico, recognising the end of their conversation, and turned back to his desk.
“Hazel asked about you.”
“Hazel?” He turned back around.
“Yeah. You seem to have made an impression on her.”
“Oh. Cool. Hazel’s pretty awesome.”
Nico looked at him, his eyes intense, making Will’s heart skip. “She has a boyfriend.”
“What?”
“Frank Zhang, on the football team.”
“Oh. Um. Okay?”
Nico continued to stare at him, making him feel uncomfortable. “So don’t get any ideas.”
Did he seriously think…?
“And I won’t help you get in her good graces either.”
He did. Oh my god.
“Nico, I’m not into Hazel.”
Nico’s face softened. “Oh.”
“And I’m not using you to get to her. Or anyone.”
Nico blushed. “I see. I thought…” He trailed off, scowling at his desk.
“No.” Will put his arm on Nico’s desk. “I’m trying to be your friend ‘cause I think you seem cool, not because of who you’re friends with, or who you’re related to.”
“Whatever.” Nico pulled on his headphones, blocking Will out.
He sighed, turning forward and slouching down. He was so ready for today to be over.
It was easier to get Nico to talk to him after that. Mostly small talk, but Will would take what he could get.
“So are you coming to the meet tomorrow?”
Will looked up from his homework, turning sideways in his seat. Class was about to end and Nico had tuned him out after only two sentences, so this was a pleasant surprise. “What?”
“The meet tomorrow. Are you going?”
“Uh.” Smooth, Will. “Where is it?”
“It’s a home meet.”
“That means here, right?”
Nico rolled his eyes. “Yes.”
“Yeah, totally.” He was grinning like an idiot. He didn’t care.
“Cool. Hazel was bugging me about finding out.”
He’d take it.
Cecil and Lou Ellen went with him. And, after meeting up with Hazel and Jason, they had a relatively decently sized group embarrassing Nico.
Afterward he was invited to dinner again, and, while he really didn’t want to go anywhere with Jason, Lou Ellen accepted for him.
And that was how they all wound up at Denny’s with Reyna, Annabeth, and everyone’s spouses until three in the morning. Will spent a large portion of it feeling out of place and eating silently between Hazel and Cecil while everyone chatted amongst themselves.
It was a familiar situation. One he could deal with with ease. Don’t interrupt. Stay until someone else leaves first. Don’t look sad.
Annabeth’s boyfriend leant over the table toward him. “Do I know you from somewhere?”
Will shrugged. “I don’t think so.”
Percy hummed. “I’m pretty sure I do.” He stared at Will, making him feel uncomfortable. “Wait.” He snapped and pointed at Will. “I know where it was. Do you volunteer at St Mary’s.”
Everyone was looking at him. “Um, yes.”
“That’s it. You were there last year when Annabeth needed surgery.”
“Oh.” Annabeth grinned at him. “I remember you now.”
He sunk back, trying to hide from everyone’s eye.
Hazel leant over him, into Nico on the other side of Percy. “Dad just texted me. He wants us home soon.”
“All right.”
Jason started to get up. “I’ll drive you.”
Cecil, Lou Ellen, and Frank also got up.
Will took his chance to leave as well.
He got about five minutes down the road when a truck pulled up beside him. The window rolled down to show Hazel in the passenger's seat. “Are you walking home?”
He shrugged. “It’s not too far.”
Jason leant over, into the middle. “It’s freezing. Hop in, I’ll give you a lift.”
“It’s really, okay.”
“It’s negative twelve degrees out and you don’t have a hat. Get in.”
He squirmed, but hopped into the back, sitting next to Nico.
Jason looked at him in the rear view mirror. “Where do you live?”
He gave him his address.
They all stared at him.
Nico scoffed. “I thought you said you lived close.”
“It’s not too bad.”
“It’s five miles.”
Hazel turned around in her seat, leaning over the back. “Why don’t you stay with us tonight?”
“Stay with you?” Will forced himself not to look at Nico.
“Yeah. I go past your street on the way to the stables. I can bring you tomorrow. It’ll be more convenient that way.”
“But, won’t your dad be mad if I just show up without asking him first?”
“He won’t even be there.” Nico stared out the window, his breath fogging up the glass. “He basically lives in LA. Hazel just said he wanted us home so I could get out of there.”
Will hadn’t even noticed. He’s just assumed she was the honest type. But, then again, he had met her because of a lie.
“I mean.” He glanced at Nico through the corner of his eye. “If you’re sure.”
”Of course. I wouldn’t offer if I wasn’t.”
Nico and Hazel’s house was huge. It wasn’t a mansion, by any means, but it must have had at least six room and three bathrooms.
“You two are here by yourselves?”
Nico shrugged. “You get used to it.”
He wasn’t sure he could. He’d never even had his own room, between his three brothers and two sisters.
He’d expected it to be spotless inside, like a house cleaner took care of it. But it was kind of a mess. Not dirty, just cluttered. Art supplies was scattered over every flat surface, and several easels were in peculiar places, some covered, others with paintings shown to the world.
“Sorry about the mess.” Hazel hung up her coat and lead him into the living room. “I’m not a fan of empty space.”
Will leant into a canvas beside the TV, examining the brush strokes. “You painted these?”
“Yeah. I like art.”
“They’re really good.” He looked over at her. “Like, really good.”
She blushed, but was obviously pleased with the compliment. “Thanks.”
“Night.”
Hazel huffed, turning to Nico as he brushed past them and went up the stairs. “Sorry. He’s always like this.”
“It’s fine.” Will watched him until he disappeared. His stomach felt a bit cold. “It’s really late.”
“No, he’s not going to sleep. He won’t do that until the sun comes up. He’s just being antisocial.”
“Oh.” Will had been under the impression that Nico had wanted him there, with the way he’d jumped in before. Guess he was wrong. “Can I look at some of your other stuff?”
THere were sketches and charcoal drawings of lots of things. There were flowers, cats, horses, trees, leaves, random people. And there were some of the people he’d met at dinner, with an obvious preference of Frank.
But most were of Nico. Nico sitting, Nico standing, Nico laying down. She’d captured him smiling, frowning, scowling, laughing, smirking. He wore expressions Will had never seen. He looked so relaxed, so natural.
Maybe coming here was a mistake. He should have just walked home.
“If you’re not tired, we can watch a movie. We have Netflix and Hulu.”
Will woke up at nine the next morning, which was sleeping in for him, with a pillow and blanket he didn’t have when he fell asleep.
It took him a moment the register Nico on the other end of the L-shaped couch watching TV.
“You can sleep through anything.”
Will hummed. He didn’t want to get up. This couch was more comfortable than his bed. “My family’s loud.”
“Guess I’m lucky that way. Breakfast?”
He got will some pop-up waffles and curled back up in a ball in his spot.
Hazel came into the room at about eleven and flopped over the back of the couch, groaning. “It’s snowing.”
“Yep.”
“What does that mean?”
Nico smiled, though it disappeared when Hazel looked up at him. “It means the stables are closed, and that I don’t have to go. But it also means that Hazel’s gonna pout and moan all day about how bored he is.”
Will looked out the window. It wasn’t coming down hard, but it was starting to pile up. “I guess I should be heading home then.”
“That’s it.” Hazel lifted herself so she was looking at Will. “We can go to your house. Is that all right?”
Will shrugged. “I don’t mind. It’s not as nice as this place, though. And there’s a lot of people.”
“That’s fine. Percy lives in a two bedroom apartment. Yours can’t be any smaller.”
“All right then.”
“Great. Get dressed, Nico.”
“What? Me?” Nico turned in his seat to look at Hazel.
“Yes, you. You promised.”
He turned to the back of the couch, standing on his knees. “I promised to go to the stables with you.”
She pointed at him, her phone to her ear. “Every Saturday. You promised. Yes, hello.” She went to the other room to order the taxi.
“Every Saturday?”
Nico crossed his arms, sinking into the couch. “Hazel thinks I don’t get out enough. She thinks that, if I stay here too long at t time, I’ll get sick again.”
“Again?”
There it was, the marker that he was shutting Will out.
He wanted to press the issue. It seemed important. But Hael came back in and pulled Nico to his feet.
“The cab’s on it’s way. Now go get dressed or I’m dragging you there in your pajamas.”
Nico muttered loudly to himself all the way upstairs.
“He’s such a baby.”
Will liked it. He liked seeing all these different sides of Nico. Even the one that didn’t like him.
He felt nervous about having them over, embarrassed about his house and his family and his life. He’d always told himself that at least he had a house. Recently he’d become very appreciative of that. Lou Ellen lived in a trailer park, and Cecil lived in a foster home. He was lucky.
He led them straight up to his room. He was acutely aware of the books and clothes scattered around, and his brother’s band playing in the garage, and his sisters yelling down the hall, like he never was with Cecil and Lou Ellen.
“This is it.”
Nico looked around, standing in the doorway. “You share a room?”
He blushed. “Yeah. Austen spends most of his time at archery club, though. So it might as well be my own.”
Hazel had made herself busy looking through his bookshelves. “You have a lot of science books.”
“Yeah.” He sat on his bed, linking his arms around a knee. “I’m gonna be a doctor.”
“That’s really cool.” She flipped through a book and put it back.
He shrugged. “Not really.”
Nico was looking at the pictures on his wall with a focused look in his eyes. “You like helping people?”
Will was surprised for a moment to hear his voice. “I guess, yeah.” He smiled. It’s nice to feel useful.”
Nico hummed.
They turned to Hazel when they heard her squeak, and saw she was looking in one of his notebooks.
Will’s mouth hung open, and he blushed when he locked eyes with her.
Oh no.
She closed the notebook and put it back where it was, clearing her throat. “Where’s your bathroom?”
“At the end of the hall.”
She rushed out.
“What was that about?”
Will buried his face in his knees. He was going to burn all of his notebooks.
Kayla ran into his room, a huge grin on her face. “I saw a girl. A really cute girl.” She screamed. “And you’re blushing! Oh my god! She’s your girlfriend, isn’t she! Oh my god!”
“She’s not my girlfriend. She’s just a friend.”
Kayla pouted, falling back onto the doorjamb. “Lame. Well, what about this guy? Is he your boyfriend?”
“Oh my god, Kayla, get out!” Will threw a pillow at her.
“Rude. Don’t get your panties in a twist, it was just a question.” She stuck her tongue out at him. “Later Will’s not-boyfriend.”
“Well.” Nico picked up the pillow. “She’s friendly.” He handed it back to Will.
“Too friendly.” He curled around the pillow, clutching it to his chest. “She likes to put herself right into all our businesses.”
Nico crossed his arms, looking back at the pictures. “So, um.” His cheeks were pink. “She said boyfriend.”
“Oh god.” He buried his face in the pillow. “I’m sorry. She just likes romancy things. She’s obsessed with all of us being in a relationship. You can ignore her.” He paused. “Unless you mean the ‘boyfriend’ part.” He looked up at Nico, who had paled. “Is that okay?”
His heart pounded painfully in his chest. He hadn’t even thought about Nico hating him for this.
Nico shook his head. “No, it’s- it’s fine.” He swallowed, his adam’s apple bobbing. “And they’re okay with it? Your family?”
Oh.
“Yeah. I mean, dad’s bi, same as me. So it’s no big deal.”
Nico nodded. “Um-”
Hazel came back in, and Will leant back against the wall, locking eyes with her.
Nico had turned to look out the window. His shoulders were tense, his profile hard.
Will realised he’d just learnt something about Nico that Hazel didn’t know. Maybe Jason either.
He didn’t think that Hazel would have a problem with it.
She gave him an awkward smile and a shrug.
Yeah. Hazel would understand.
By the time Monday morning came around, Will had convinced himself to say something to Nico. Preferably “I like you”, but he’d see how things went before deciding on the exact phrasing.
Nico sat in the back of study hall, staring out the window, as per usual, and Will grinned when he saw him.
He felt warm, his heart fluttering. His hands felt disconnected from his arms, his body a little weak.
He looked out the window to see what Nico was always looking at.
It was a gym class. Will recognised it as one for seniors only from the sports they were playing. They were less gamey and more competitive, and there were only six kids. He recognised a couple of them from Saturday, mainly Percy.
But why would Nico spend so much time watching Percy’s gym class?
He leant forward, his hands on the window sill. He was caught between trying to push away his new revelation and pull it to the surface. He didn’t want to know. But he had to.
He lost his choice when Percy spotted Nico and waved to him.
Will looked over in time to see NIco look down at his desk, blushing.
Oh.
Will suddenly didn’t feel like talking to him anyway. He sat at the front of the front of the classroom instead.
So you’ve been hiding from ghost boy all week?” Lou Ellen leant over the table toward Will. “How’d he respond?”
Will shrugged. “I don’t think he’s even noticed.”
“I think you should forget him.”
“Cecil.”
“I’m serious. This guy’s got you wrapped around his finger. You spend all your time thinking about him, and looking at him, worrying about him. You glance at him in the halls and you practically start panting. It’s not healthy, man.”
“That’s because he’s in love.”
“He’s not in love. He’s got a crush. Look.” Cecil leant forward on his arms, locking eyes with Will. “There’s only one week left of school before the break, then you never have to see him again.”
That, honestly, sounded awful.
“Maybe I should talk to him.”
“Great idea.”
“No.” Cecil sat up straight, glaring between the two of them. “Bad idea. See Lou Ellen?” He motioned at her with his plastic fork. “Right now she’s the devil on your shoulder.”
“Lou Ellen scoffed. “Is it because I’m Pagan?”
“No, it’s because you’re wrong. Will, man, just forget about him. There are tons of other people in the world.”
“Not like him.”
“Yes like him. What, you think you find the only goth kid out there? You didn’t even find the only goth kid in this school.”
“Oh, shut up.” Lou Ellen whacked Cecil’s arm. “Will, listen. If you feel like you need to talk to Nico, then do it. Your feelings are the ones at stake here.”
Will smiled at her. “Thanks, Lou.”
She gave him a side hug. “You’re welcome.”
His plan to pull Nico away and ask him about it privately lasted until he got to the door for study hall that day and saw Nico laughing with Percy and Jason, the earlier’s arm around his shoulders.
Nico had never once shown that expression to Will.
Nico saw him and said his goodbye’s to the guys, and walked up to him. “Hey. Have you been avoiding me lately?”
He hadn’t meant to say it, but the words just came rushing out of him.
“You like Percy.”
He sucked in a breath. His throat burned.
The look of pure terror on Nico’s face was all the confirmation he needed. And he wished he’d never got it.
He shoved past Will, running down the hall.
“Nico!”
He wanted to run after him, should have. But he walked into the classroom instead, and spent the rest of the school day with his face pressed into his desk.
He got a call from Hazel after he’d buried himself in his blankets, only slightly hoping they would suffocate him.
“Will, something’s wrong with Nico. He’s locked himself in his room and won’t come out.”
He sat up.
“He’s blasting his music and won’t answer the door. Jason’s and Reyna’s here. I don’t want to call Percy or Annabeth, because that would just make it worse. But I don’t know what to do.”
She sounded like she was trying not to cry.
Will was already pulling on his pants.
“I thought, maybe, he might talk to you. Because you’re not ingrained in our group, he might feel safer. And, well, I know you, um, care about him.”
He froze. “That’s-” Exactly the problem.
“Please, Will. I’m worried about my brother.”
He sighed. “I’ll be over as soon as I can.” He hung up, and stuffed his phone in his back pocket. “Lee! I need a ride! It’s an emergency!”
As soon as they got to Nico and Hazel’s house, Will jumped out of the car, running to the door and bursting inside. He ran right up the stairs, taking them three at a time, and up to the small group of people congelated outside Nico’s door.
Music was blaring from inside, and Jason was pounding on the door. Will could feel their anxiety.
“Will.” Hazel hugged him.
“Nico, come out or I’ll break down the door!”
“Jason.” Reyna massaged her temples. “You’re making this worse.”
“What am I supposed to do? What if he’s tried to kill himself again?”
Will’s chest felt cold. He looked to Hazel, who looked like she was barely keeping herself together.
He walked up to the door. “Let me try.”
They stepped back, watching him.
He took a shuddering breath and knocked on the door. “Nico? It’s Will.”
There was a moment where nothing happened, and Will thought he might start to panic, then the music got louder.
Everyone in the hall relaxed. He was still alive and conscious. Hazel started to cry.
“Nico. Can we talk?”
He got no response.
He put his hands on the door and moved closer to it. “I’m sorry about earlier. I let my emotions get the best of me and said something I shouldn’t have.”
Nothing.
“Nico. I promise I won’t say anything, to anyone. I promise. Just, please, let me in.”
He waited a long while, everyone staring at the door, willing it to open, Will’s back crawling from the weight of their eyes.
When he couldn’t hold his breath any longer, he let it out, leaning his forehead on the door.
It opened, making him stumble.
Nico looked around, his music still blaring, everyone watching him. He looked at Will, making his heart skip. “You won’t tell anyone?”
He shook his head.
Nico looked at everyone again, then back to Will. “Fine. Let’s talk.” He stepped aside to let Will in.
Nico closed the door behind him and leant against it, his arms crossed. Will realised he’d been crying. His eyes were puffy and bloodshot and still a little wet.
“I’m sorry.”
“You said that.”
“I still am.”
“Why would you yell that right in the middle of the hall? People could hear you.”
“Um, can we turn the music down? It’s really loud.”
Nico stormed over to the stereo and yanked on the plug.
Will hadn’t meant it like that.
“Well?”
He sighed, folding his arms, squeezing them close to his chest. “It just came out.” He looked away. “I’m sorry.”
“ ‘Just came out’?” You spilled my biggest secret to the world, which you should even know, on accident?” Nico waved the cord around, and Will worried he’d get hit with it. “How did you even know?”
Will whined deep in his throat, wishing the music was still on so Nico didn’t hear it. He’d apparently lost all his ability of foresight, because obviously that would happen to him. “I saw you looking at him.”
The look Nico gave him was murderous. Will actually thought he might die right there. Well, he hoped.
“You’ve been spying on me?”
“What? No. You’re always during it during study hall.”
Will looked up at Nico, his brows knit. “Are you serious?”
“Yeah. How I feel shouldn’t matter to you at all. So what’s your deal?”
“Oh my god.” He looked over Nico’s face for any sign that he was joking. “You’re really serious.”
Nico huffed.
“Oh my god.” Will got up and went to the door.
Nico followed after him. “Where do you think you’re going?”
“I’m leaving. I can’t deal with this.”
“What’s got into you?”
“Oh my god.” Will looked up like he was praying. “Oh my god, really?”
Nico put a hand on the door to stop Will from opening it. “What is with you? You’re usually so calm and cool, and now you’re freaking out.”
“Calm and cool? Are you serious? Is that really what you see when you look at me?”
Nico leant away from him.
“I am literally always freaking out. Always. I keep everything inside because I’m afraid if I say anything everyone will hate me. I have no idea why anyone likes me. I don’t know if my friends are really my friends because I’ve never had real friends before. And I can’t tell the guys from my old school to buzz off because I’m so afraid to be alone.”
His face was read and he was out of breath, but he just kept going.
“I hate myself. There is literally nothing good about me. I’m not smart, athletic, creative, good looking. I’m the most forgettable person ever. I’m only becoming a doctor because it’s the only thing I’m actually good at. And the one time I really like someone, he’s into someone else. Someone attractive, athletic, and probably super popular. That’s how these things usually go.”
He was losing steam, breathing heavy, his chest heaving.
Nico stared at him. “Like…?”
Will sighed, his shoulders dropping. “I have to go.”
Nico didn’t stop him. He opened the door to see everyone staring at him. He felt sick.
He pushed past them, stopping only when Hazel grabbed his hand.
“Thank you.”
He tried to give her a smile, but couldn’t manage. “I’ll see you later.” He rushed out before he began to cry.
Cecil and Lou Ellen came to his house to confront him about why he’d been ignoring them for the entire last week of school.
He hadn’t expected it. No one had ever bothered to seek him out when things were wrong with anyone other than themselves.
“So wait, you lost your mind on him and just screamed at him that you liked him?”
“It’s not funny, Cecil. Can’t you see he’s upset?” Lou Ellen rubbed Will’s back. “Honestly, just because you have no real feelings.”
“I do too have feelings.”
“Then you should be able to sympathize with him.”
Cecil scoffed and rolled his eyes. “Fine. What do you want to do now?”
Will groaned, pulling his covers over his head. “Home schooling doesn’t sound too bad.”
“Don’t both your parents work?”
“Oh, right. Well, how does death sound?”
“Yours, or di Angelo’s?”
“Cecil.” She punched him in the arm.
“Ow. Can’t you be more lady like?”
“Can’t you be a gentleman?”
Will laughed. Having friends was nice. “Thanks, guys.”
Lou Ellen smiled at him. “No problem. Now, let’s get you out of the house.”
He groaned, but complied. She was right, after all. Pouting just made him feel worse.
Will didn’t have any classes with Will the next semester, but he did have lunch together.
They tried to ignore each other at first, but Jason insisted on sitting with him, since Cecil and Lou Ellen had a different lunch. He was happy, but miserable, and awkward, and he kept glancing at Nico. How was there enough room in his body for all of these emotions?
“Where’s Percy?” It was mean to ask, but when Nico flinched he felt a bit of vindictive comfort mixed in with his guilt.
“He transferred.”
“What?”
“Yeah. To Annabeth’s fancy boarding school. They’re gonna spend their last semester together.” Jason grinned. “Speaking of Percy. Wanna tell him what you did, Nico?”
“No.”
“What’s going on?”
Jason leant over the table toward Will, lowing his voice. “Nico came out.”
Will looked to him, but he was leaning over his lunch, his hair in his face.
“After you left last time, he told Hazel, and she convinced him to come out to everyone else.”
Will’s mouth felt dry. “How’d that go?”
Jason shrugged. “A few people were shocked, but I think that’s mostly because he doesn’t parade around in pink hot pants, sporting the gay flag, and covered in glitter.”
The idea made Will grin. It was just so preposterous.
“Anyway, he told Percy he liked him.”
Will’s stomach dropped. “Yeah?”
“Yeah. They had a big heart-to-heart . They even hugged when they were finished.”
Will stared at Nico. He felt sick. He wanted to leave the school and curl back up in his blankets.
“Wait. That’s not why he transferred, is it?”
“Nah. He already had that taken care of. But that is why Nico went through with saying something.”
Nico stood up. “I’m done.”
“You haven’t touched your food.”
“I’m done, Jason.” He stormed off, throwing his food in the trash.
Jason sighed as he turned back to Will.
“Why did you tell me that? I mean, not that I’m complaining, but you don’t seem like the type to gossip.”
Jason grinned. “Because Nico asked me to.”
“He did?”
Jason nodded. “I think he feels bad about what happened. He’s been really down ever since your fight.”
Will stared at the door Nico left through.
Maybe he should talk to him.
He found him with Jason after school.
Will took a deep breath, putting his hand to his chest to calm his frantic heart, and stepped forward. “Nico?”
He turned around to face him. “What?”
Will tried not to get upset at that. Nico was just blunt. “I just wanted to say congratulations, for coming out, and for talking to Percy.”
Nico looked at the ground. “Thanks.”
There was a dragging silence between them, but Nico didn’t leave. Will took that as a good thing.
“So. Wanna hang out?”
“Oh.” Nico’s face tinted pink. “Well, um.”
“Not like, a date.” He held out his hands. “Just like, as friends.”
“Friends?”
“Yeah.” Will lowered his hands. “I wanna be friends with you.”
“Oh.” Nico stuffed his hands into his jacket. “Sure.”
“Great.” Will tucked his hands into his pockets as well, mirroring Nico. He felt a bit sick. But this was better than nothing. Friends was better than not being with Nico at all.
He was pretty sure.
And thus began Will’s trials of not flirting with Nico every chance he got.
He didn’t steal Nico’s food, or try to get him to try his own when they ate. He didn’t reach out to hold Nico’s hand when they walked. He didn’t play with Nico’s hair when they watched movies. He only spazzed a little when Nico threatened to cut his hair.
Will was a fantastic not-boyfriend, if he did say so himself.
So it was completely out of left field when, in the middle of may, Nico leant over during the musical episode of Buffy, and kissed him.
He froze, unsure if this was real, or another dream. Then again, in his dreams he never questioned it. So it must be real. Unless his subconscious had decided he needed to be punished.
Nico pulled back, staring at him.
Will had his arms out like a T, pushed against the back of Nico’s couch. “Um.”
Nico paled. “Oh god.” He fell back. “You don’t- you don’t like me anymore.”
“What?”
“I waited too long.”
“What?”
Nico started to get up. “I shouldn’t have done that.”
Will grabbed the lapels of Nico’s jacket, pulling him down, and kissed him.
Nico fell down into the spot next to him. He leant back, his hands wrapping around will’s waist, pulling him down with him.
The kiss lasted forever. Not long enough. When Will pulled back, Nico’s lips followed him.
He took a moment to look at Nico. His cheeks were pink, his hair mussed up in the back, breathing heavy, his jacket half off (when had that happened?), giving Will the same look.
“Does this mean you like me?”
“Nico rolled his eyes. “Duh.”
“Oh good.” Will kissed him again, shorter this time. “I would hate for this to be a one time thing.”
He rolled onto his side, pulling Nico in close to him so they both fit on the couch.
“So, I don’t want to bring this up, but I kinda have to.” He looked between Nico’s eyes. “What happened with your thing for Percy?”
Nico shrugged, only one shoulder moving. “I got over him.”
“That’s it?”
“Does there have to be more?”
“No. I’m just surprised is all.”
A sick feeling settled in his stomach, infecting the butterflies that still fluttered about.”
“What is it?”
Will licked his lips. “I guess I’m just wondering; why me?”
Nico propped himself up on an elbow so he was looking down at Will, who turned on his back to look up at him. “What do you mean?”
Will looked to the TV with his eyes. “I guess I just don’t get why you like me. Especially after a guy like Percy. And with a guy like Jason around.”
Nico wrinkled his nose. “You’re jealous of Jason?”
Will blushed. “A little, yeah.”
Nico laughed and sat up. “Jason’s a friend. Just a friend.”
Will sat up to, leaning back against the couch. “Yeah, but he’s gorgeous, and really nice to everyone, and athletic.”
“Should I be jealous of Jason?”
“What? No.”
“Relax. I’m kidding.” Nico shrugged. “I don’t know why you. I just like you. Percy and Jason both want to save the world, and that’s a great dream to have, but once the dream wears off and I realised they’re just people underneath, it sort of goes away.”
“Okay. So what about me?”
Nico looked away. “I guess… I guess I liked what I saw after my perception of you was shattered. You’re a lot like me. And you drive me insane sometimes, and we butt heads. It’s fun.”
Will started laughing for some reason. He just couldn’t stop. It bubbled from the base of his spine and overflowed out of him.
Nico put his face in the crook of Will’s neck, groaning.
“About time.” Hazel leant over the back of the couch, resting her chin on her crossed arms. “I thought I was gonna have to say something myself.”
Nico glared at her, his lips pressed against Will’s clavicle. It made Will’s breath short.
“I got it.” She stood back up. “I’m going out. But double date Saturday.”
It wasn’t a request. Will nodded.
“Great. I’m going to call Jason. Bye.” She slipped out of the room.
“I like your sister better than mine.”
Nico laughed. “Let’s turn off the DVD. We’ve only got about a minute before Jason calls.”

I MADE ANOTHER ONE AND YOU CAN’T STOP ME!
“Bi, I don’t need another blind date. Please.”
“But this one’s great. You’ll love him.”
“No. No more dates. No more dinners, no more coffee, no more ‘perfect guys’. Just, please.”
“I know I’ve picked some duds. But this one’s different. Really.”
Nico groaned, falling face first into his pillow.
“Just until Hazel’s wedding. Then I won’t bother you anymore.”
He moaned.
“Please, Nico? Just one date with this guy.”
Nico sat up. He wasn’t sure what had gotten into him so suddenly, but he stared at the wall, his eyes fixated on nothing, his mouth slowly falling open. “Actually, I got a date of my own.”
Bianca was silent, and Nico started to panic. She didn’t believe him. He was so bad at lying. Why did he do that?
“Really?”
“Yeah. This Friday, actually.”
“With whom?”
“Um, his name’s Will. We work together.”
“All right. That’s good.” It sounded more like a question than agreement. “Just, promise me, if it doesn’t go well, you’ll try my guy, all right?”
He sighed. “Yeah, all right.”
“Good. Now, I have to go. Danny’s freaking out about the food choices, and Penny wants to change the flowers.” She sighed. “Who knew planning a wedding was so hard?”
Nico laughed. “Everyone who’s ever been a bride.”
“Oh shut up. Okay. Have fun on your date. I love you. Bye.”
“I love you, too.”
He hung up, letting out a breath. Dodged that bullet. He laid back down and played his movie, putting his problem on hold for the time being.
Nico woke up to a text from Bianca on Saturday morning.
How was your date?
He sat up, rubbing his eye with the heel of his palm.
What date?
The one with Will? You did go right?
A shock went through him, waking him up. He pulled his knees up, typing his reply as quick as he could.
Oh right. Just woke up. It went well. Great even.
He worried after he’d sent it that it was too much.
That’s good. So you’re going to see him again?
Yeah. No date yet. But I think so.
Great. I can’t wait to meet him.
Meet him?
Yeah. I’m coming down tomorrow. Remember? The whole family is.
He dropped his phone. Oh no. Oh no. This was bad. And he’d done it to himself this time.
Maybe Jason had an answer.
Jason’s answer was to come clean.
That was not going to happen. He was not going on another blind date. He would much rather embarrass himself by asking Will to be his pretend boyfriend.
So that was why he’d pulled him aside after the store closed and explained what happened.
Will stared at him for a long while, making Nico squirm.
“So, you want me to be your boyfriend?”
He didn’t sound please by that. “It wouldn’t be for real. Just until my family goes back home.”
“You said your sister’s wedding was in a month?”
“Yeah. In California. The rest of my family lives there.”
Will sighed, curling forward. “All right. I’ll pretend to be your boyfriend until after this is over.”
“Really?”
He nodded.
It was odd. This was exactly what he wanted, but it didn’t make him happy. A little relieved, yes. But mostly he just felt heavy.
“Will, do you like someone else?”
Will smiled. It was bland, not like him at all. “No.” He gripped the edge of the picnic table he was perched on. “I don’t have anyone else I like.”
That did make him feel better, though not by much. “Oh, good.”
“Yeah.”
“And, um, thanks. You’re really helping me out.”
He shrugged. “No problem, Neeks.”
“So, um.” Nico played with his cuff, looking down.
“Why me?”
“What?” He looked up, Will looking away when their eyes met.
“Why did you give her my name?”
“Oh.” He sat up a bit straighter. “I don’t know. You’re just the first person to come to my mind.”
“Oh.”
Nico couldn’t tell if Will was happy with that answer or not.
“Cool.”
Someone honked, and they both looked up to see Lou Ellen leaning out the driver’s side of a car.
“I have to go.” Will grabbed his bag.
He stopped after a few steps and turned to Nico with a resolute expression. “I’ll call you tomorrow. We’ll get lunch. You can introduce me to your sisters then, all right?”
“Sure. They’re getting here around eleven.”
“Right. It’s a date. Anyway.” He stalled, staring at Nico until Lou Ellen honked again, making him jump. “Right. Later. Tomorrow.” He pointed at Nico, walking backward.
“Yeah. All right.”
“Right.” He climbed into the car, watching Nico until it was out of sight.

Will had explained to Nico’s teachers that he would be talking a day off, which they all apparently agreed to. Probably since Will was such a perfect goodie.
He was surprised when Jason stopped by, and he buried himself in his blankets, trying to shut his voice out.
“Just tell him that I’m sorry for freaking him out. And I’m not going to tell anyone.”
Liar. When people had dirt on people, they always used it. Just because he was good, didn’t mean Nico was going to fall for his lies.
“I will.”
“Thanks.”
Well closed the door and came back over to sit on Nico’s bed. He pulled
Nico’s head onto his lap and played with his hair, as he’d been doing since he got back from classes.
“Why are you being so nice to me?”
“Because you’re my friend.”
Nico pulled the blanket down to his chin and looked up at Will, who smiled back at him.
“You have poor taste in friends.”
Will laughed. “Maybe.”
Nico closed his eyes and just felt Will’s hand on his head. “Don’t you have homework to do?”
“One day won’t hurt my grades to much.”
Nico looked at Will’s desk, covered in open books and papers. He never thought Will capable of missing an assignment. He was always so anxious, his foot and fingers tapping, his music playing so loud in his ears Nico could hear the words, arched over his work. And yet, right then he seemed so calm. All because Nico was having a hard time.
He closed his eyes, deciding he liked having friends.
Aw your frazel fic was really cute! Please write more about them in your stories :)
Thank you~ I adore Frazel, but I can never seem to think of stories for them. I will try to fit them into the things that I do write, which I’ve been neglecting to do for focusing on Hazel’s relationship with Nico.
Hazel tapped her foot to the beat of her music as she read the ingredients on a box of granola bars. Nico had been eating only fast food lately, and she wanted to make sure he wasn’t going to have a heart attack in his early twenties.
From the corner of her eye she saw Percy. She looked up to say hi, and saw Jason with him, his football team sweater’s hood pulled on.
She grinned. He’d been so busy with practice lately he hadn’t been over for almost two weeks. She was surprised at how much she’d missed him.
She tip-toed up behind them. Se put her finger to her lips when Percy looked back at her.
He looked between her and Jason, his smile falling. “Hazel, wait-”
She hugged Jason around the waist.
He froze, turning to look at her. And he was not Jason. “Hello.”
She pulled back, her hands in the air, staring at the stranger with wide eyes. “I’m sorry. I thought you were Jason.”
“Hazel, this is Frank.” Percy motioned to him. “He’s new.”
Hazel realised that he couldn’t have been Jason, and not just because he was Asian. He was fuller than Jason, and taller. He looked a bit intimidating.
“I’m sorry. I just assumed.” She fanned her face with her hand, feeling hot.
“It’s okay. I was just surprised is all.” He turned to face her fully. “It’s nice to meet you, Hazel.” He gave her a broad smile.
“Hazel’s Nico’s sister.”
“Oh.” Frank looked uncomfortable.
“I should get back to shopping.” She waved awkwardly at them, shuffling backwards.
“Oh.” Frank stood up straight. “Right.” He cleared his throat. “It was nice meeting you.”
Hazel turned toward the sounds of giggling and saw some of the girls in her grade looking at her. She scowled.
They whispered to each other, just too loud to pretend they didn’t want her to hear.
“Look, horse girl found someone just as awkward as her to flirt with.”
Frank blushed and stuffed his hands in his pockets.
Hazel turned away. The last thing she needed was a rumor going around that she was dating someone. “I’ll see you later, Percy.”
“Aw. I think we made her mad.”
“The poor boy looks like a kicked puppy.”
“He looks kicked, all right. In the face as a baby.”
The two laughed shrilly.
Frank pulled his shoulders up, tucking his chin into the collar of his sweater.
Hazel’s blood boiled. She didn’t care if they picked on her. She was used to it. But she couldn’t stand seeing someone else get bullied.
She turned her scowl on them, and one of the girls flinched. “Hey, how about you be a couple of bitches somewhere else.”
They both sobered, glaring at her.
“Excuse me?”
“We’re not at school right now. Which means you’re just another couple of spoilt brats. You mean nothing out here. Which means I don’t have to put up with your shit. So kindly piss off.”
“Say that again and I’ll rip out your hair.”
Hazel squared her body at them and advanced. “You wanna go?”
They backed away, looking between themselves, then at Percy and Frank.
One of the girls straightened herself. “You’re lucky we have to be somewhere. Come on, Elle.”
Hazel waited until they’d turned a corner before looking away. “Yeah, that’s what I thought.”
Percy and Frank were giving her a look of awe, making her mood go from raging to awkward instantly.
“That was amazing.” Frank broke into a grin.
“Oh, um. Thanks.”
Percy looked back to the corner the girls rounded. “Man, I wish I could have dealt with my bullies that way.”
“You were bullied?” Hazel had always assumed he was popular.
“Yeah. For most of my life.”
“You’re never bullied at school.” Frank finally turned away from Hazel, which made her body temperature drop significantly. “What happened?”
Percy grinned. “Annabeth punched one of them in the face.”
“What?”
“Yep.” He looked so proud.
Frank laughed. “American girls are great.”
Hazel scoffed. “Some of us.”
Frank looked back to her. “You are?”
She looked away. “I really have to go.” She turned back to the granola bars. “Later.”
She looked back a moment later, her headphones back on, and saw Percy elbowing Frank, who was blushing again.
She didn’t really know how she felt about this, but she knew she didn’t like doing what people wanted her to do.
Cecil groaned loudly, throwing himself onto the bench across from Nico and Will.
“What’s wrong with you?”
Cecil slouched over the table, glaring at them. “You two are what’s wrong with me.”
Nico matched his glare. “Excuse me?”
“Your PDA is disgusting. All the time. I can’t get away from it.”
“What are you talking about?” Will sat up, Nico shifting with him. “We hardly even kiss.”
“It’s not just that. You two are attached at the hip. You hold hands, snuggle into each other.” At this Nico shifted away from Will. “Call each other pet names.”
“We do not.”
“Really Death Boy?”
Nico blushed and turned away.
Will rubbed Nico’s back. “Cecil, I think you’re over reacting.”
“I’m so not. Lou will back me up.”
Lou Ellen sat down next to Cecil. “I will?”
“Aren’t these two totally gross?”
“What?” She looked to them. “Yeah. It can get kind of annoying sometimes.”
“Lou Ellen!”
“Sorry.” She held her hands up. “But it’s true. You guys have all of these couply quirks. It’s not so obvious when you’re doing it with someone else, but when you’re single, well.” She shrugged.
Nico looked ready to pop. He got up and stormed away.
Will gave them both a glare before running after him.
Cecil huffed. “There he goes. After his insecure chain.”
“Are you sure you’re not just a little jealous?”
He scoffed. “Please. They’re so gross. Why would I want any part of that?”
Lou Ellen shrugged. “It seems nice.”
“Nice? Don’t tell me you go for that cute, cuddly stuff.”
“Oh, no. But just being able to hold someone’s hand would be nice, you know?”
Cecil snorted. “You sure you’re not an Aphrodite kid?”
Lou Ellen shoved him over.
Nico and Will were back to their usual cuddling by the campfire that night, and Cecil was growing even more agitated.
He put his arm around Lou Ellen’s shoulders when Will fed Nico a marshmallow. “My dearest love.” His voice was loud, attracting the attention of a few campers around them. “Please, allow me the honour of providing you with this sustenance.” He held one ton her lips.
“Oh, my hero!” She fluttered her eyelashes at him. “I’d grown so weary, unable to feed myself.” She put the back of her hand to her forehead and pretended to swoon.
A few people laughed.
“Wait!” Cecil pulled the marshmallow back, swinging his arm so wide he nearly hit the camper on the other side of him in the face. “It’s too hot. You might burn your sensitive little tongue. Allow me to blow on it to cool it off for you first.”
Jason whooped with laughter.
Will looked like he might murder them both. Probably in the infirmary, just to be spiteful.
“Oh, but if it does, you could just heal it with one of your magical kisses.”
The people around them were laughing so hard, the rest of the camp had gone quiet so they could hear.
“Shh.” Cecil put a finger to her lips. “You are too eager to put yourself in danger. WHat would I do if you got hurt? This marshmallow was in the flames of my heart, which burns too hot for any mortal to handle. Even you, my love.”
“Oh, Will!” Lou Ellen threw herself into his chest.
Nico stood up and stormed off, a round of applause and whistles accompanying him.
“What is wrong with you two?” Will stormed after him again.
Lou Ellen bit her lip. “You think we took it too far?”
“Nah. They’ll be over it by tomorrow.”
They went back to the campfire activities, Cecil’s arms still passively around Lou Ellen’s shoulders.
They were not completely over it by the next day, but they had calmed down.
Nico refused to do anything other than hold hands with Will, due to how people would whistle at them any time they did.
Finally, after working all day to calm him down, Will finally got a small kiss outside of cabin thirteen after the campfire that night.
Cecil wrapped an arm around Lou Ellen’s waist, pulling her into him. “My love, I cannot resist your sweet lips. Please.”
Lou Ellen turned her head away. “I cannot. People are watching. I have a reputation to maintain.”
“But I crave you!”
“How can you? I am a child of death. You of the sun. We are too different.”
“Opposites attract.”
“But a relationship would cut into my brooding time.”
Cecil put a finger on her chin and directed her to look at him. “That’s hot.”
Nico’s cabin door slammed shut.
Will stomped up to them. “Are you two serious? Do you have any idea how long it took to convince him that no one cared if we did things like hold hands in public? He was terrified for almost a year. And you two, in the span of two days, have almost ruined that.”
Lou Ellen looked to the ground.
“I don’t care if you wanna make fun of me. I’m used it it. But don’t make fun of Nico. And don’t do it publically right in front of him.
Cecil watched him storm back to his own cabin.
“Oops.”
“Hey, you two. Looking cute.”
They looked around and saw an Aphrodite girl and a Demeter boy grinning at them.
They jumped apart, Cecil tripping and falling on his bum.
The onlookers laughed and went on their way.
“Here.” Lou Ellen held her hand out to him.
He took it, noticing how warm it was, and he wasn’t sure how much was her, and how much was him.
“I’m gonna head back to my cabin.” He motioned over his shoulder.
“Yeah.” Lou Ellen put her arms behind her back, scuffing the top of her shoe in the dirt. “Night.”
“Night.”
He practically ran to cabin eleven.
The next day was tense. Will and Nico avoided them completely, and they noticed Nico wouldn’t even touch Will.
Cecil thought Lou Ellen was over sympathizing. He would get over it.
“He’s just pouting. He’s always pouting about something.”
“Yeah. But he’s usually better around Will. Now he’s acting like his touch is venomous.
“So let him deal with it.”
“How can you be so mean? We have to apologise.”
Cecil huffed. “Why? It’s not like they’ll listen.”
“Come on.” She took him by the wrists, pulling him forward.
“Lou, no.” He bucked his legs and dug his heels into the dirt.
“Cecil.”
“No.”
She yanked on him.
He lost his balance, toppling over onto her, knocking her to the ground.
“Ow. You doofus.”
“You’re the one who wouldn’t let me go.”
“Look at them. They’re so cute. Bickering like an old married couple.”
A small group of Athena and Aphrodite girls were pointing at them and giggling.
“I knew it would happen eventually. They’re always together, acting cute.”
Lou Ellen pushed Cecil off of her, hitting him in the face.
“Ow. Lou. Seriously?” He was definitely going to have a bruise on his chin.
“Sorry.”
He sat up, rubbing the spot.
“Sorry.” She sat beside him, locking her fingers around her knees.
“What’s with you?”
“I just- you heard them.”
“So?”
She blushed, scowling at her toes. “Well, they were acting like we’re a couple.”
“And you decided to over react and hit me?
“That was an accident.”
“Not better.”
“I said sorry.”
She crossed her arms, turning away from him.
They sat there for a while, refusing to look at each other.
Cecil sighed, looking at the sky. It was almost dinner time. “Lou, look. Say, um.” His mouth was dry.
She twisted her torso to look at him.
“Say- say they do think we’re a couple. Would that be so bad?”
Her arms lowered, still crossed. “Excuse me?”
His hands shook. “I mean, who cares what they think, right? They don’t know what they’re talking about.” He laughed, his voice strained.
“Cecil?”
His laughter died and he looked down.
“Are you saying you want to be together?”
He turned away from her and they went silent again.
“Yes.”
Cecil looked over to see Lou Ellen grinning. “What?”
“Yes, I’ll be your girlfriend.” She was looking directly at him, her ears pink.
“Wait, really?”
She nodded, biting her bottom lip.
“Great.”
He hesitantly took her hand, making a face as he did. “This is really weird.”
She laughed. “Totally.”
They were holding hands during the campfire, forcing the closeness in order to get past the awkward feeling that came with the burning faces and fluttering stomachs that they always had before, and that just seemed to explode that afternoon.
Will stared at them, the bridge of his nose wrinkled, pulling the rest of his face into it. “Are you serious? You made Nico feel like complete shit because you were harboring repressed feelings for each other?”
“Will, we’re sorry.”
“Save it, Lou. You guys are jerks, and I really don’t want to hear it right now.”
He left, probably to find Nico and rant about them.
Sorry for disappearing. I was working on an unexpectedly long story and kinda burnt myself out. But I have some stuff finished and I’ll try to get something up today.
To the anon’s who requested the Gordon Ramsey and MBLAQ stories, I’m sorry, but I don’t think I can write them. I’ve tried several times to do them both, but I just can’t manage. I may try again in the future, but for now they’re just out of my grasp.
Lastly, I’m probably going to change the formatting on my stories. It takes a long time to reformat them, especially longer stories, and just the thought of having to do so has me procrastinating for days. So I’ll be doing a more basic formatting that’s a lot quicker from now on.
Characters: Nico di Angelo, Will Solace, Jason Grace.
Pairing: Solangelo.
Time frame: AU.
Rating: PG.
Warnings: Descriptions of a panic attack.
Detention with Jason was tense and boring. The two sat in an unused classroom by the window, Nico in the back, Jason in the front. They were the only two in detention that day, and, what was worse, the teacher, one Nico didn’t know, apparently trusted Jason enough to leave the room.
So they were stuck together, alone, for two hours.
Nico tried to make the most of it by doing his good homework. Unfortunately he was stuck, and he didn’t exactly have Will at hand to ask for help. So instead he spent most of the day watching tourney practice on the field.
Which meant watching the team captain, Percy.
Which also meant watching him show off for Annabeth.
He’d grown used to this feeling, the burning in his muscles, over the past few months. It usually came with a ducking and hiding. But, occasionally, he could allow himself to stare, and drown, his body shutting down, going slowly numb, sinking. He didn’t even cry anymore, didn’t feel the urge to.
He’d hadn’t really lost. He couldn’t. He’d never even been in the race.
That simultaneously made it easier, and much more difficult, somehow.
He hadn’t noticed Jason staring at him. Hadn’t noticed him get up, walk over, stand beside him. He hadn’t noticed his hand on his desk, or the way he leant over to follow his gaze.
“You like Percy.”
Nico jumped, his homework going flying, his chair hitting the floor with a clatter, his back slamming into the window. He felt like he was moving in slow motion, the fog not quite lifted, though his heart was racing, and his ears were screaming.
Jason held his hands up. Nico could see his expression, but he couldn’t understand it. “It’s all right.”
Each heartbeat shook Nico’s vision. “N-no. I-” His voice broke.
“It’s okay.” Jason reached for him, but Nico shoved him away.
He pushed past him, knocking over several chairs as he ran from the room.
He didn’t know where he was going. He just ran. WHen he hit a wall, he picked another direction and ran that way.
He had to get away from Jason, and away from Percy.
He registered Will right in front of him a fraction of a second before plowing into him, sending them both sprawling.
He tried to get back up, but his hand shook so much that it slipped off the wall and he hit the ground again.
“Nico?” Will grabbed his wrist.
He tried to pull away, pushing on Will’s chest. But his body barely worked. And the harder he tried, the harder it was to breathe.
“Nico, you’re having a panic attack.” Will took his other wrist, forcing him to hold still. “You have to tell me what’s wrong.”
“He knows.” The words burned his throat. “He knows and he’s gonna tell Percy.” He was crying. “He’s gonna tell Percy.” His voice squeaked and broke. Each breath came out louder than the last.
“Who’s gonna tell Percy, Nico?”
“Jason.” He couldn’t hear his own answer. “Jason’s gonna tell Percy.”
Will hugged him, holding him firmly, his hand at the back of Nico’s head, ignoring how Nico fought against him. “Jason’s not gonna tell Percy, Nico.”
“He is. He’s gonna tell.”
“He isn’t. I won’t let him.”
Nico stopped fighting, though he didn’t calm down.
“Don’t worry, Nico. I’m not going to let Jason tell Percy. I promise, Nico.”
His name was like hypnotism coming from Will’s mouth. He kept finding ways to use it, and Nico found it a little easier to breathe every time he did.
Eventually, when he stopped crying, Will began to sing to him, softly, and off key. But, at that moment, it was the most beautiful sound Nico had ever heard. He just listened as Will rocked him on the hallway floor for who knows how long.

Will was called in as a temporary guardian for Nico, and showed up out of breath and in a panic.
“What happened?”
Nico looked away, feeling a small bit of shame eating away at his stomach like a demon. It was a new experience. But, then again, he’d never involved anyone else in his problems before.
“Doom and gloom here got into a fight with Arendelle.”
“Jason?” Will scrunched up his nose. “That doesn’t sound like him.” He took the seat beside Nico. “What happened?”
Nico shrugged, turning away from him.
The door opened and Jason came out, his lip split and his chin bruising where Nico had hit him.
Will hissed. “That looks bad.”
Nico smirked, tucking his chin into his chest.
“Let me heal you.” Will stood up, reaching for him.
“Don’t worry about it. It’ll heal in its own time. Besides, it’s your turn to see Fairy Godmother.” He motioned over his shoulder with his thumb.
Nico took a breath and stood up, his hands gripped at his sides He forced himself to keep breathing. He’d dealt with worse.
He felt Will touch his wrist and pulled away, marching through the door with his head held high. Through the corner of his eye he caught Jason staring at him before he walked away.
“Will, Nico, have a seat.” Fairy Godmother sat behind her desk with her hands folded, waiting for them to do as they were told.
“I must admit, I was disappointed to find out you were fighting, Nico. I had hoped you’d make it through the semester without getting in trouble.”
He stared at his lap.
“And with Jason of all people. I’m positively flabbergasted. I don’t think he’s ever been in trouble in his entire life.”
He gripped his shirt until his knuckles turned white.
“I’d like you to tell me what happened.”
Will turned in his chair to face Nico, waiting for him to explain.
He clenched his jaw.
“Nico?” He touched his arm.
Nico didn’t respond. He didn’t move. He just stared at his hands, shaking, his emotions slowly shutting down, his face growing more passive.
After a while, Fairy Godmother sighed. “I see.” She pulled a folder from a stack in front of her. “I was hoping I could make an exception, since Jason admitted to having instigated you. But seeing as you can’t confirm his story.” She wrote something on a paper inside the folder; his file. “This is strike one. You will be serving detention with him tomorrow afternoon. Thank you, Will, for coming in.”
The two of them stood up and left.
As soon as the door behind them shut, Will turned on him, his hands on his hips. “Why didn’t you tell her what happened?”
Nico shrugged.
“Hey.” He grabbed Nico’s arm before he could walk off. “Why won’t you talk to me?”
Nico pulled his arm free, but turned to face Will. “It doesn’t matter.”
Will huffed. “Yes, it does. Do you realise that you can get kicked out?”
“So what if I do?”
“Don’t even play that apathetic game with me. I know you don’t want that to happen.”
Nico bit the inside of his cheek. “It doesn’t matter what I want, or how hard I try. If they want me gone, they’ll find some way to get rid of me.”
Will rolled his eyes. “Cut the drama, Nico. No one wants to see you fail. This entire thing was completely avoidable. If you’d just taken some responsibility and told Fairy Godmother what happened-”
“I did take responsibility-”
“No, you pouted like a child. Responsibility is more than just accepting punishment. It’s about taking control of your own life. You’re not doing that. You’re not doing anything. You’re just letting things happen and blaming everyone else.”
Nico glared up at him, his jaw clenched, his entire body shaking.
“Nico. What happened.”
He sighed, his entire body going slack, though he was still shaking. “I’ll tell you in the dorm.”
Omg Super Thesis was such a good story! Are you thinking of continuing it?
Thank you~ I am thinking about it, but I’m not sure. I have maybe two more points in it I’d like to write, but I’d need a fuller concept of what I want before I try.
