actually I’m so sorry Jason Grace for not seeing how fucking goated you were before. a tall built blond gentle child-soldier guy who doesn’t really belong anywhere, makes it his purpose in life that no one is forgotten, and was RAISED BY WOLVES?? I’m sorry I said you were boring Jason.
Jason describes supporting just himself with the wind as trivial so he should fight like Peter Pan. Flight is free leverage so why would he ever fight grounded? He should be flying around jabbing and thrusting at opponents like an angry hornet.
Hi hi I need to get your opinion about my blorbo Shindou ⚡️
Shindou, to me, embodies the concept of “noblesse oblige” — that privilege entails responsibility.
Shindou is the type of person to think about everyone but himself. He is consistently taking on everything by himself to spare others as much as he can. During his introduction, he is in a very difficult position as the captain of Raimon. Not only does he have a Seed breathing down his neck while Tenma is gearing up to revolt against the Fifth Sector. Unlike Tenma, Shindou is already thinking of the potential ramifications of doing such a thing; yet he tries his best to delay breaking the harsh truth to Tenma and Shinsuke, to keep their hopes alive for as long as he can no matter how meagre the difference it makes.
The scene where the Raimon club members leave one by one is one of the most difficult scenes for me to watch. Like, you can see Shindou slowly losing hope; you can see the hurt in his voice but he maintains his composure and gives everyone a proper farewell. Not to mention he got beaten up and his team got nearly annihilated and he was distressed that he unlocked a Keshin from it and he worked himself to collapse mere hours ago, and here he is taking everything in stride and being so understanding and everything.
Like, this kid is supposed to be fourteen? Little me could never. Heck, current me probably could never either!
Even when arguing with Tenma, his words are, “How do you think everyone feels about this? How do you think Sangoku feels having to let those goals in?” He still doesn’t even mention himself, even though he’s the one hurting the most in this position. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t, but Shindou still prioritizes everyone but himself.
His relationship with Tsurugi further cements his maturity to me. Even the small scene where he, despite everything that Tsurugi did thus far, has the heart to even offer Tsurugi a uniform cements that he has such a big heart. Even in the Teikoku match, he has more reason than anyone to reject Tsurugi, but he’s actually the second to accept Tenma, and unlike everyone else who is hesitantly following the lead, Shindou is much more resolute in his trust despite having every reason not to.And his reactions to Okatsu in CS is another great relationship for Shindou. He doesn’t reciprocate the girl’s feelings for him nor can they ever grow close because they’re not even from the same time, yet he treats her with so much understanding and gentleness. That scene of him crying as they leave makes me so emotional. Shindou consistently has some of the most emotional scenes in the series.
Also, Shindou is so adult-coded (probably not the right word, but it’s the only one that comes to mind). Rewatching GO really makes it feel like every adult except Endou has some strange beef with this kid because Shindou asks some very reasonable questions and is only gaslit in response. Kudou doesn’t explain a thing to him before he retires, Kidou during the training arc is much the same, even Gouenji in Galaxy gaslights him when he brings up his very valid complaints. My boy literally cannot catch a break.
I’ve seen people say that he cries too much, but honestly? He doesn’t have enough breakdowns. The only adult who ever tries adulting when Shindou is in the room is Endou, and then Shindou has to see him get turned into a stone and kidnapped for a whole season.
Level 5 really looked at Shindou and said, “This guy can fit so much trauma in him.”
In Galaxy, Shindou is my favorite character period. Like, he’s so valid? He and his friends did so much and went through absolute hell to be able to have one nice tournament, but no! Instead he has to play in an international tournament in a team where only three people even know what a football is. And he’s supposed to be the strategist in this team? And worse still, they’re not even willing to try? And then the people around him have the gall to claim that this team has potential and Shindou just doesn’t get it?
Shindou has way more patience than me, I swear.
Coming back to the noblesse oblige thing, Shindou consistently puts everything on his own shoulders to spare everyone around him. His “maestro” motif represents this very well.
A music conductor is someone who guides a choir through a performance. They’re the one who controls the tempo and maintains to smooth out any difficult passages in a music sheet. A conductor’s presence prevents the individual players from playing at different speeds and overall tarnishing a performance. In a way, a conductor can make the difference between a good and a great piece.
Shindou is much the same imo. On the field, he’s the one coordinating everyone’s plays and finding ways to best utilize them. Outside the field, he keeps everyone in line and shoulders every burden he can to spare others. This, again, is where the noblesse oblige theme comes into play. Because above all, Shindou’s character is defined by responsibility. It’s very telling that, in that one flashback, we see that he didn’t even want to be the captain. He only did it because other people thought he was a better fit, again showing Shindou as someone who shoulders all the responsibility for other people’s sake regardless of what he wants himself.
Shindou deserves so, so much better than the absolute hell the GO series puts him through.
jason who considered himself abandoned. not by his mother -- at least, not only her -- but by everyone. his patron goddess, who erased all his memories. his sister, who doesn't stay long enough to truly know him. his camp, his family, who never really searched for him. his girlfriend, who broke up with him and they moved apart. his best friend, who "died" and never got to meet him after he returned.
and then he never got to experience its reverse, with anyone coming back to him.
Been seeing a lot of misinformation and inaccurate details in regards to Frank's addiction. Obviously in things like fanfic it doesn't have to be precise nor is it a medical text, and there are some things depicted in the show that don't quite make sense either. But if you are curious, confused, or want to depict benzodiazepine addiction with more accuracy, then here are a few pieces of information that may help:
Frank was mostly likely prescribed something like diazepam to treat muscle spasms around his back injury whilst healing, and long term use has left him with a physical dependency. Benzos are prescribed on a "as needed" basis (think how ativan is used to stop a seizure, or valium to calm an episode of a panic disorder), and when prescribed in cases of pain management are recommended for use up to four weeks, and no longer. Although sometimes prescribed in pain management, they are not analgesics.
Benzos are a CNS depressant and controlled substance. They wouldn't give a traditional "high", instead it would be a sedated state of relaxation (if you've taken valium or xanax before, those are benzos). High doses can induce amnesia and blackouts.
The way Frank spoke about his injury suggests that Robby was around when it had happened, placing the injury sometime during his residency, so anywhere between 2-1 year/s ago. (edit: this injury was most likely a herniated disc).
He most likely justified stealing from the hospital as withdrawal symptoms include physical tremors, cognitive impairment, anxiety, and agitation, and so working with those symptoms would put patients at risk.
Diazepam is sometimes used in the treatment of certain symptoms of opioid withdrawal, but this would be done in like peak withdrawal under the supervision of a doctor so it's very unlikely this was the case for Frank. There are more medications and tools to treat opioid addiction, and the withdrawal from opioids, although unpleasant, is not as dangerous as the withdrawal from benzos. Benzos are sometimes used to treat alcohol addiction but withdrawal from alcohol lasts up to seven days, making developing a dependence on them during this time unlikely.
Benzo withdrawal is fucking nasty. Going cold turkey is not an option, and any attempt to just "sweat it out" can be life-threatening. So Trinity figuring it out just may have saved his life.
Going to a rehabilitation facility for withdrawal due to medical use does not seem the appropriate response as these facilities usually focus on individuals who take substances recreationally (edit: forgot to explain, a doctor would first asses the severity of addiction and decide what is the best course of action: referring you to see a specialist or clinic as an out-patient, or admitting you to a facility). However, he still went, as per the conditions Robby set. At least in a facility he could withdraw under constant monitoring.
Either way, going to a rehab facility or hospital for addiction is a really fucking traumatic experience. If you've never been I don't quite know how to explain it, but trust me it is. It will also take a little for Frank to recover from the experience of it.
If Frank truly was trying to wean himself off (which is possible, chloradiazepoxide (librium) is used to treat benzo withdrawal), then it would be another four weeks to safely taper the dose down to zero (if he was not, then 6-8 weeks), and then another two months after that for the acute withdrawal symptoms to stop. Some symptoms may persist for years after.
After leaving the facility, Frank would still continue to get treatment as an outpatient, which would include counselling and physical check-ups. He would get most of the psychological support during this time, and not whilst actively withdrawing, as the patient actually needs to be in a headspace receptive to therapy. Being an outpatient can last from six months to a year.
There is no rule saying that you can't take other substances or drink alcohol while recovering, however it is very, very strongly discouraged, and research shows that those who drink are more likely to relapse.
He would still be allowed to take over the counter painkillers. Idk why in a lot of fanfics Frank cannot take even paracetamol. He can take them and suffering in pain would only increase the risk of relapse.
Chances are he would be prescribed melatonin to assist with sleep and ease some of the withdrawal symptoms.
Cannot stress this enough, benzodiazapine withdrawal is fucking horrific. Symptoms include anxiety, weight loss, paranoia, dissociation, paraesthesia, muscular spasms and cramps, sweating, panic attacks, diarrhea and vomiting, depression, increased sensitivity to sensory stimuli (light, touch, sound, smell), agitation, dizziness, hallucinations, and insomnia, amongst others. These are symptoms that show up when weaning off, and remember, they last two months after the last dose and some can linger even up to a year later, and some even years after that. If you stop taking benzos all at once, the symptoms are worse (seizures, mania, psychosis, aggression, delirium, overheating, coma).
Whether or not Frank was aware he is an addict in s1 is a matter of interpretation. He clearly had some idea that things were wrong, but whether he was aware of the full extent of his addiction and risk to his life is not definite.
Whether or not Frank would "crave" benzos after recovery is also up to interpretation and dependant on triggers, but I think it's fair to assume that moving forward he would probably want to avoid benzos even if medically recommended (due to the mechanisms of benzo addiction, each subsequent withdrawal is worse). He may find himself craving them when experiencing prolonged withdrawal symptoms, he may have cravings when experiencing pain. He may not have any cravings at all. I know people who have been sober for years but still have cravings, and I know people who recover and never look back. I know people who never touch what they were addicted to ever again, and I know people who can take things recreationally without fear of relapse. The definition of "recovered" can vary from person to person. There is no scientific calculation to work it out.
If I made a mistake here please let me know, I like learning. Anyway, hope this helps :)
i am really appreciating how the pitt s2 is showing langdon's competence. he's a good doctor who listens empathetically to his patients. he didn't just forget hippa to appease a woman he has worked with for not even 24 hours. almost most importantly, he's a damn good teacher and mentor. his slight teasing of javadi about her tiktok is superficial. he knows emma's name and checks in with her (and is heard asking her something in the bg, so he's not coddling her either) and gives her genuinely good advice. he is still trying to teach santos who i'm sure brings up a lot of big, conflicting emotions (which is not dimished by the fact that he doesn't know how much she's progressed in 10 months) and doesn't rise to her obvious jabs. frank langdon the DOCTOR that you are
I was having a pretty good day, and then I remembered that Coach Hedge and Mellie blamed Jason Grace for the whole Jiper breakup and treated him like trash. Calling him "That... boy," as if Pookie hadn't been objectified enough during his life.
There was also a rumour going around Reddit that apparently Jason moved to that all-boys boarding school because Hedge and Mellie didn't want him around Piper because he's already hurt her enough, and they were genuinely making him uncomfortable, and making him feel unsafe/uneasy around them.
I'm sorry, but weren't Hedge and Mellie supposed to be Piper and Jason's legal guardians while the pair were finishing up high school???? Guardian doesn't mean siding with one and kicking the other out of the house. Especially if they are two teenagers whose breakup is their business and not yours.
(P.S. Why didn't Piper ever correct them? Like, its stated in the books that Piper let Coach and Mellie (And everyone else), believe that Jason broke up with her. Honestly, ToA Piper was such an L.)
Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they neglected or just ignored Jason completely for his last week or 2 with them before Jason finally left.
DID THEY EVEN FEEL BAD OR A LITTLE GUILTY AFTER HIS DEATH????????
ToA Coach Hedge and Mellie they could never make me like you, I hate you both with a Burning Maze passion.
do y'all ever think about the amount of misplaced love jason has in his heart. do y'all ever think about how he was orphaned at two years old. do y'all ever think about how much he compliments people and tries to make them feel seen and heard. do you ever think maybe thats not just cause thats the best way to keep a team intact but also because he's grasping for somewhere to put all the love inside him. do y'all ever think about how the only family he had ever known turned on him in an instant, when the Argo II attacked new rome. do y'all ever think about how hard he tried to reconcile even though the romans were throwing bricks at him. do y'all ever think about how one of the few times jason is shown to be naive is when he's trying to connect the two things he loves (cj/nr & chb)*. do y'all ever think about how jason was willing to die for a boy he'd known for less than a year. do y'all ever think about how once he realized nico was just another hurt kid, jason adopted him into his circle. do y'all ever think about how he gave percy, who he had only known for two-ish months and had a rivalry with, a huge hug after he came out of tartarus. and do y'all ever think about how, no matter that he's been taught to repress his feelings & to avoid vulnerability, love seeps out of jason like honey.
do y'all ever think???
*this one's referencing him asking piper to talk to reyna, and how she'll be able to smooth everything out
something that's been in my mind since i first watched Go is just how good a role model Shindou is
he's the captain of Raimon, which makes him the cornerstone of the team, the one player everyone knows they can rely on. he's shown and treated as a strong character from the very moment he's introduced, and that's never rolled back
and he cries. very often. and it's never played for laughs or framed as a bad thing.
Shindou doesn't cry because he's weak.
he's everything but weak, really. i mean, he played a whole match even with a half broken ankle
he cries because that's his way to process strong feelings. it's just who he is! instead of lashing out or pushing it down, he tears up, and that's fine!
crying isn't some childish habit that you have to rid yourself of, it's not something you stop doing once you're 'mature', it's a healthy coping mechanism to vent emotion, and it does not make someone weak!
to have a character be strong and sensitive at the same time, with said strength never being there in spite of the softness, is such a rare find. especially since he's a male main character of a shonen series
i really like the fact he exists in a series a lot of people grew up with. i hope at least one kid's emotions were validated by him
Do you ever think about the fact that nectar is supposed to taste like home and Jason's tasted like sawdust. Do you ever think about the fact that Jason got SPQR burnt into his arm when he was four. Do you ever think about the fact that Jason so willingly accepted Mellie and Hedge yelling at him for something that wasnt even his fault. Do you ever think about the fact that Jason was trying to treat all the gods with equality even the one that nearly killed him and Percy. Do you ever think about the fact that maybe Jason isn't boring and he just dealt with his truama differently by being more quiet and reserved. Do you ever think about the fact that despite saying he wants to be considered part of both camps everyone in the fandom depicts him in a Camp Jupiter shirt and never a CHB shirt so he will always truly be a roman. Do you ever think about the fact that Jason was never really close with any of the seven because none of them really knew about all of his unresolved issues. Do you ever think about that. Do you ever think about Jason Grace.
do we understand how bad jason’s abandonment issues are. DO WE??
cause his mom gives him up when he’s two, then he has to leave his home of a year to go to camp jupiter, THEN after 12 years of living there he’s taken from THAT home and shucked off to camp half-blood, where people (other than piper and leo) don’t care about him and seem to only want him for the possibility of him leading them to percy, JUST TO COME HOME and see that percy has been chosen as praetor. oh and his girlfriend breaks up with him after they’ve been through something close to hell and then he dies.
I have so many thoughts about jason & the possibilities of his power range. I'll prolly go more in depth on some of these later but take some headcanons for now :O
give me jason who constantly knows where he is when above ground, the same way percy knows where he is in the sea.
give me jason who can heat or cool a room just by thinking about it.
give me jason who can control certain "waves" like sound, the same way percy can control liquids that aren't necessarily water.
give me jason who can project his voice for miles, helping him command the romans or send distress signals.
give me jason who can walk on clouds and mold them to be whatever shape he wants, the same way percy does with water.
give me jason who understands birds (or at the very least eagles), the same way percy can talk to fish.
give me jason who can "see" in the dark, through wind maps or temperature readings the same way percy can see in the depths of the ocean.
give me jason who has a special sort of connection to celestial bodies, like the sun is his brother and the moon is his sister...
give me jason who can travel through lightning strikes, in a similar manner to nico's shadow travel.
give me jason who has a constant defense system to touch, where any unwanted contact is met with a jolt of electricity.
give me jason who knows things only whispered to the wind, because he spends so much time interacting with it that things start to be brought to him.
give me jason who, in a moment of pure panic or rage or desperation, sucks the air out of somebody's lungs and leaves them to choke.
I know Canon Jason could stand to be more feral and unhinged In General because of the Raised by Wolves thing but I cracked up so hard at the bit where they fight the giant at the doors of death at the end of HoH and everyone is going at him with their weapons and powers, meanwhile Jason just kicks the guy in the face
