"Your sister has been staring at us," Hanna says, leaning over to inform Alena of this quietly as they wait for their drinks at the bar.
The band is finished with their set for the evening, but they've stuck around to mingle and receive compliments from eager fans — including Hanna.
"That is your sister, right? The singer. You guys look so alike." It's kind of haunting.
Alena has been feelting her sister's piercing gaze for a while now, but for Hanna, she fakes surprise. "Really?" She turns around to glare at Niko and they fight over dominance with the same freaking eyes, but Niko wins, because Niko always wins.
It all takes a second. Alena's attention is back on Hanna. "Yeah, we're twins," coldly at first, drums fingers against the bar impatiently, and then breaks into a chuckle, "obviously. but don't mind her, okay? she'll fuck off in a second."

Davy grins back, impressed with her boldness. He admires all women — especially ones who offer to walk him home, like the six-foot white man needs protection late at night.
"I will lead the way." He sets off. His arms dangle loosely at his side.
Davy gives off vibes that he indeed does need protection. Or maybe Milena just doesn't want him to know where she lives. Either way, he doesn't argue and she catches up to him.
''You should carr-eh one of these on ya." Jiggles the pepper spray. "You never known when you gonna need one."
"Ooooh, how visceral," Rian says with a delighted little grin.
"It was really good." The ecstasy makes everything more beautiful, but Rian won't say that. It might make Niko feel less beautiful.
"I don't get out much anymore, so this was fantaaaaastic."
It's Niko's turn to grin and giggle like a school girl. Crimson sits on her cheeks (it isn't fake, because you can't fake a blush, or?)
"I'm glad you liked it, I do my best out there." You know, Niko feels like taking it further, saying something risky-er, but she is only a bit tipsy, too conscious.
"Are they keeping you somewhere locked up? In a palace? Are you a princess?" Flirty, flirty, fliiiirty.
"magda didn't say when she'd be back," ruth announces to the inside of the refrigerator. they've got about a quart of OJ left. the bodega down the street only sells it in glass bottles, like coke -- ruth is a big fan of this design choice. it tastes better in glass bottles. "it's not urgent, is it?"
the reason for this surprise visit, she means.
she knocks the door shut with her hip, holds the OJ by the neck. she's not confident that she'll find any clean drinking vessels in any of their cabinets but she's going to pretend to look anyway.
she gives a nod of acknowledgement to ruth's back. even if ruth doesn't see her, it feels like a polite thing to do. milena thinks about asking the whereabouts of her younger sister for a brief second. it's a fleeting thought, really, and as soon as charlie babbles impatiently it is a thought long forgotten.
''nothin' urgent.'' well, the living situation is urgent and milena wishes magda would just come live with her, since they're finally living in the same town and all. "i though i would stop over and say 'iya."
still standing, charlie still slipping down. where can she sit or the question should be, can she sit at all?
"so -- , " wants to ease the tension, or perhaps the strange awkwardness, "what do ya do, ruth? where do ya work at?"
"Okay, so—" This is a sign of Temperance getting into gear for a real shitstorm of an argument, "I was just standing here, innocently, looking at stuff." Already that doesn't sound innocent.
"And there was this drink that came out, which was totally mine," Temperance jiggles the almost-empty cup full of ice in her hand, conveniently turned so that no one can see if it has a name on it, "So obviously I took it and drank it, and then they started saying it wasn't mine and I never ordered anything! Are you shitting me?! Like, do I look like a drink-thief?"
It's Milena's drink that she's apparently stolen, anyway. Make of that what you will.
Milena has three younger sisters. Three.younger.sisters. Who all have that younger sibling energy. In other words, Temperance's 'Okay, so' resembles awfully what she would expect from her sisters. Spoiler alert: it's nothing good.
Mil keeps observing Temperance, how animatedly she talks and moves and tries to really get her point across. When she is done, Milena can only ask: "What flavour was the drink?"
Very well aware her own has been stolen. Very well aware it was probably Temperance.

funke has made the big big mistake of interacting with The Twins. why would he interact with them? (probably because he is a roommate to their older sister and their paths had to meet, as we writers have decided).
anyway, The Twins have taken advantage of this. funke is a kooky little fellow for them (he is 5'7 which isn't a lot), ginger with no eyebrows, flaunts a very particular style and personality.

their faces contorts in disgust at the same time, two pairs of black eyes bore into him. judgementally.
niko starts: ''there better not be anything lewd about us in your head. don't even think about it!'' alena obediently nods her head.
i need to give someone a mancunian (manchester) accent. the best candidate is milena, cuz she actually finished university, so i could just say she did her degrees in manchester...yes yes *rubs my hand like a fly*

It's just birthday orders they don't respect. When it comes to Gabriel, those orders are backed up by a lot of... historical weight. There are consequences. Cross observes the exchange, but they don't understand it; it's a whole other language they don't really speak.
That, too, has something to do with her response when she says, "Your feelings aren't my responsibility. I'm not going to do something I don't want to just because you'll be sad. Anyway, you shouldn't be sad just because of me."
Yeah. She doesn't get it.
The Twins don't know much about Cross. Alena feels indifferent to this fact, while Nikolena, in her own way, laments over it. She believes Father's 'Knowledge is Power' and quotes it often. And if it isn't his quote, she doesn't care, he made it his.
You just have to make things yours, you don't have to create them. Which also comes from Father.
Alena, speaks first, since it's her right too, you know, to speak. Her eyes sparkle: "Is it someone special?"
And Niko gets on the same wagon in a heartbeat. Buzzes with excitement over the possibility of teasing Cross about her intimate life.
"I bet their feelings are your responsibility and you don't make them sad or mad, 'cause you are sweet and you care about them and do things for them." She bats her fake lashes. "I wish you'd be as sweet to us."
Alena, hurriedly: "We just want you to be sweet to us."

no, no. they are not. milena wants free weed, you know, and while funke has given her magda-is-your-sis discount, it isn't enough.
she has bills to pay on her own and and - shouldn't be paying just because. because of some principle i don't see into.
milena's hand rests on funke's knee, strategically. "sort of. we'll get there."

milena adjusts charlie (her eight months old son) on her hip as she looks around the apartment. god damn, does magda really live like this? she would never, in million years, think magda would live in a place of a similar … construction?
magda must be desperate, milena concludes.
she looks around for a place to sit, but remains standing. her chubby baby son slips slowly down and she keeps adjusting him.
"yes, please. orange juice would be fantastic." is the orange juice in the room with us?
milena has ongoing on-and-off periods of a maladaptive daydreaming. after her first baby was born it got so bad she was constantly dissociated, sometimes running on auto-pilot and sometimes just not running at all. got to the point when a family friend had to move in and help out + force milena to go to therapy.
nowadays, she has it a lot more under control thanks to constant therappy sessions and even if she daydreams, it doesn't get as bad.
