Incendies, York’s one and only Feminist Arts and Culture Zine Presents: Launch PARTY for Memory & Space

  Join us for a very special launch party for both of our issues released this year, issue #3 Memory, and #4 Space!  This is a chance for the Incendies Magazine editorial team, volunteers, writers, artists, readers, and fans to meet and mingle!  WE SO SO SO WANT TO MEET ALL OF YOU!  We are asking $5 or PWYC for admission, PLUS, the new issue of Incendies, a super spiffy official Incendies notebook, and all you can eat/refreshments. As part of this event there’ll be: Live music! Artists TBA*** Live readings! Artists TBA*** A very cool PWYC button-making station! Images and supplies provided by Incendies, but if you have an image you've always wanted on a button bring it with you!  Cool merch for sale! Food and refreshments provided *All proceeds will go towards to printing costs of our next issue!* ALL AGES: Yes ACCESSIBILITY: Wheelchair Accessible, Gender-neutral Washrooms Incendies Magazine AND Bike Pirates operate under a strict anti-oppressive mandate. This is a safe space, and will be protected as such.

BLACK SALT COLLECTIVE FT. JEEPNEYS

Fanciulla Gentile, Adee Roberson, and Grace Rosario Perkins are great artists and great friends who are redefining “culture” in art. They each come from different parts of the world and different experiences, but they come together and support eachother through Black Salt Collective (an art collective focusing women of color ). By showcasing contemporary narratives, the collective breaks athropological pidgeon-holes of ethnic art that presumes “Oh this person is Navajo, they make this kind of art.” Though you may not be able to guess art-to-face, each of these women have very distinctive styles. They know who they are, respect where they came from, and make what they want- AND LET ME TELL YOU, IT ROCKS.

Yep, I was lucky enough to photograph their SF debut gallery opening at Artists Television Access this past Sunday and it was definitely a day to remember. All types of people attended the opening and were blown away by the emotion and love the artwork gave the space. Featured at the opening was a musical performance by dear friend and frequent collaborator of Black Salt Collective, Jeepneys who delivered a set I can only begin to describe as astro-tropical house.
