Oh dear. What happened?
Most great thinkers are complete weirdos, you’d fit in just fine. [he laughs] Okay, fine. Top 3?
Complete weirdos? You're extremely rude. Top three? Oh, um, Rachel Ruysch. She was this 17th century Dutch still life painter who, while being mother to ten children, went and became a really celebrated artist in her lifetime. Then there's Nikola Tesla who makes me cry a lot. And, well, my mother, I suppose. I never really met her, so that'd... It'd be nice.
How about you?
Well, I still am having the headaches, which isn’t great, but besides that I’m fine.
No, that doesn't sound great whatsoever. I'm sorry you're having them. Please tell me if there's anything I can do to help.
I got hurt back when I played track in high school. They said I probably wouldn’t be able to run anymore. But the doctors I worked with made it so that I could, not as fast but at least I can. I wanted to do that for someone else.
Really? That is a very inspiring story. No wonder you'd end up majoring in Sports medicine. So, are you enjoying it so far?
And I would. I’d brag about it during the intermission to pretentious scholars who claimed to know everything about you.
Thank you, that would be much appreciated. Can you also make up ridiculous rumours so I can laugh at them evilly in my fortress of solitude?
Report it all back to me! I live vicariously through you.
Really? Goodness, I must start doing more exciting things then!
How are you, Mary?
When you reject him, at least do it in a way that’d make Jane Austen proud.
I will try. I'll let you know how the scene plays out.
Nonsense, they’d all love you because you’re amazing. Who would you want to see?
Oh, I know. However, I'm not the brooding and deep type of a person most great thinkers tend to be, not by a long shot. Please don't make me list all of them, it would go on for days.
Oh Sav! You’re such a heart breaker!
My family ought to be ashamed!
You’ll be the next Carmen.
God, I hope so. Wouldn't that be amazing, though? You could tell people you knew me in my youth and feel very important.
Having your heart broken at six sounds bad.
What were his plans?
Doesn't it? I do feel awful, but I feel like it was my responsibility to tell him. It would've been quite cruel if he had to hear it from his parents. Why, we were to live in his house with his parents and eventually get a dog. He also told me his sister would marry the boy from next door and live in that house, meaning we could all play together whenever.
The kind they write opera about. Savannah, they’ll call it. Or maybe Zavanna, to make it seem more exotic.
Oh, I really like Zavanna! It sounds way more exciting and mysterious, a good fit for a lady like myself.
History was always my worst subject. I can never keep things straight. I’m majoring in sports medicine and minoring in arts and lit.
I understand. I sometimes struggle with dates and probably make up things, but I've always enjoyed researching the past. Sports medicine sounds very exciting. Is it something you've always wanted to study?
You’re just a regular heartbreaker, aren’t you?
I am, aren't I? It's terrible!
The children I babysit are lovely, but explaining them why the six-year-old of the family can't marry me was quite tricky. He had made so many detailed plans for our married life and now feels utterly betrayed.
Yeah, me either. I usually meet someone new every time. [walks out behind her] You’re welcome. So, what’s your major, Savannah?
That's wonderful! Meeting new people is very rewarding, even if it means I end up getting a little bit lost on my many walks. Oh, I'm studying History. I also take Classic Literature. And you, what are you taking?
