Five years, almost exactly. Five years since he opened his eyes, surrounded by strangers, saying his name - one of the few things he could remember. Quickly, it was explained: hunters attacked, and he hit his head. Theyâd managed to heal it, he would be fine, they told him. And yet, he couldnât remember a thing. To establish a routine of sorts, after a thorough examination, they sent him home with the son of the leader.
When they arrived, the house was already decorated. Tree up, wreath on the door, garland on railings... apparently, theyâd just been about to decorate the tree, when everything happened. After a couple of nights, the two decorated the tree together. Ornaments were made by Fordâs family, or by the two of them, various forgotten memories draped across the branches. Each one with a story. Ford even told him of a little bluebird ornament, that went in his motherâs tree. Whoever found the bluebird got an extra present, it had become a bit of a game.
Ford made everything so nice, so easy. He didnât rush anything, didnât expect anything, but was still there when Akira needed someone to lean on. Many nights were spent in front of the fireplace, watching it crackle, hot chocolate in hand. They saw some of the others around, went to dinners - they were all very understanding of the fact that he couldnât remember anything, so they told him stories, instead. Of how he and Ford got together, of what it was like watching them awkwardly try to flirt... eventually, someone would find their way to the piano and start playing carols, albeit with a few sour notes, but that could always be blamed on the wine with dinner. Akira even found the bluebird in the tree, and got the bonus gift of Elvis Presleyâs Christmas album.
It was the first Christmas he could remember. Really, it was some of the first days he could remember: he never got his memories back, but instead, he made new ones. Some unpleasant, the sessions always left him feeling drained, but Christmas was always a good time of year. Right between the monthly sessions, he wasnât drained, and the anticipation of the next one hadnât usually hit him yet. No, Christmas was always a time he could relax, a time he could enjoy.
The second Christmas, they both tried to wake up early to make breakfast in bed. That had been a mess, both waking up, twenty minutes apart - and Akira, still tired, stumbled into the kitchen only to find Ford cursing over a ruined pancake. The decision had been easy, to sleep in instead. Wake up whenever they wanted, lay there in each otherâs arms for a bit... that had become their Christmas morning tradition. When they finally decided to face the day, they got out of bed slowly, usually laughing about one thing or another as they went about their morning.
And so, the next two had gone similarly. Presents were modest, but that wasnât the fun of it. Laughing as Ford attempted to wrap the garland properly without getting needles everywhere, or poking each otherâs noses with flour-covered fingers while making shortbread, or dancing to Blue Christmas and singing along obnoxiously... That was the fun of it.
Now, the tree was up. The garland was up, tinsel strewn about here and there. Apparently, Ford had decided to make a little crown of tinsel for the fox figurine he thought would be so funny to give him, last year. âBecause youâre a kitsune!â He had told him, a big grin on his face.
âFord, did you get lost in there?â Akira called down the hall, wondering what was taking so long what the ornaments. Just as he spoke, however, Ford wandered back into the room with a box of ornaments, rolling his eyes and mocking his impatience. Soon, the two started hanging the decorations, chatting about their days, and occasionally glancing back at each other with a smile as they went.
Akira paused, as they were nearly done. He watched the other as he continued to decorate, a small smile trying to perk up the corners of his lips. For so long, that first year, theyâd tried to get him to remember everything... but heâd realized by now that he didnât need to remember. The five years worth of new memories were enough, as long as Ford was at his side, ready to take his hand.
The kitsune wandered towards the record player, flipping through records, seemingly absentmindedly pulling out the Elvis album. Smiling at the fact that Fordâs back was still turned, he placed the vinyl onto the player, and moved the needle into place.
âCome dance.â He said softly, holding his hand out as the music began to play. âWeâve earned a break.â

Josie was a bit confused. She and Nate had agreed to meet at her apartment, he had a key after all. But, when she arrived, he wasnât there - and when she checked his apartment, he didnât seem to be there either. She was just about to call his phone, however, when Lukaâs number came up on her caller ID. Walking back out of her building to try and track Nate down (and assuming he was just at the corner store getting something), she quickly answered the phone. âHey, Luka. Whatâs up?â They were friends, but they didnât often call each other. âUhh, Thursday? Yeah I think we can switch, Iâll just have to double check my schedule... One sec, youâre going on speaker.âÂ
She changed over her phone, and quickly sent a where are you? text to Nate. âYeah, Iâm free Thursday, we can switch.â She wasnât all that concerned about not being able to find Nate - until, of course, she heard his text tone from down an alley. Frowning, the blonde slowly wandered towards the source of the sound, until she froze at the sight of a body on the ground, her breath leaving her body for a moment. âNo...â She whispered, before rushing forward, willing it to not be him. âNo no no no no no...â Her voice was breaking, tears already coming to her eyes even before she kneeled down to look at his face. There were holes in his neck - a vampire bite. âNate, please, you- you have to wake up.â She whimpered out, dropping her phone to grab either side of his face, as her tears dripped from her chin.Â

closed starter for @inconvenientxfireworksâ [Jeffrey&Noelia]
He was so late, but he really couldnât help it seeing as one of the current guests at the B&B had plenty of questions for him. Still, he tried to make it as fast as he could to the meeting place, getting some takeout on the way. âIâm so sorry Iâm late, I was held back.â Jeffrey apologized, even if heâd already texted his daughter heâd be running late. âBut I got us some takeout, so I hope youâre hungry.â
Noelia didnât usually have evening classes, but this semester, she couldnât avoid it. She was just going to get dinner on campus, but when her dad asked if she wanted to meet up on campus later, she figured, why not? Well, the fact that he was late with a client was why not - but when he came walking up with a bag of takeout, her eyes widened. âIâm starving, wow, you read my mind.â She admitted, immediately closing her textbook and moving it off to the side, homework completely forgotten.

JJ had just left the coffee shop, her own newly purchased scalding beverage clasped tightly in her hand, when she saw the bike hit the storm drain and the blond boy go flying. Breaking into a run, she headed over toward him, thankful for the first aid kit she kept tucked in her purse at all times. He was starting to move as she drew neared, sitting up as she crouched down beside him. âHey, that looked painful. Are you doing okay.â
Simon knew that what heâd just done was definitely not something that people could just miss, if they were nearby at all... but he honestly hoped that most of them would let him pick himself up and keep going with minima extra attention. However, when he started to sit up, he blinked as he saw a woman approaching, and crouching down beside him. âI think Iâm fine, just a bit banged up...â He admitted softly, but winced as he looked down at all the scratches on his hands from how he landed.

The afterlife was a pretty dull affair, if Ken was being honest with themselves. An eternity to wander the earth, and they had to die off the coast of Maine. If they had a chance to do it over, theyâd have picked a better location. Maybe Greece, so they could live out an eternal Mamma Mia fantasy. Or New York, just for the constant entertainment. Instead, they were stuck in the sleepy hometown theyâd been so desperate to move past, avoiding their best friend and family⌠Really, they took any chance they could to enjoy themselves. So when they noticed the lone girl in the coffee shop, they worked their way over and, when she turned her head, moved her drink just slightly to the side. They smirked slightly, leaning in close to watch their reaction.
ââOh, I can go all day with this shit.â
a starter for @inconvenientxfireworksâ ( kennedy & iris )
Iris found it hard to make friends ever since sheâd been turned. It wasnât being a werewolf that was the problem, it was just... her. At least, where she grew up, she had friends that sheâd known forever - but now, after moving twice, she felt like she hardly knew anyone. Working in a bookstore didnât help much either, since everyone was so absorbed in reading, or figuring out what they were going to read - and as much as she loved talking about the books, she just wished that there was something else to talk about. It was hard for her to get her mind off of that fact, as she sat in the coffee shop, alone at her table. However, when someone approached her, she tried to ignore it, focusing on what she was doing on her phone - especially since they werenât saying anything. When the stranger reached and moved her drink though, she frowned, eyes flicking up to them immediately.Â
âOkay, but like... why would you?â

He swallowed as he got closer, and the closer he got, the more evident it was that this definitely looked just like his sister - whether she was a ghost or not. For a moment he thought it might have just been someone that looked like her, but this wasnât it. This was her, despite how impossible this was, he felt certain of it. His fingers started fidgeting with whatever he found in his pockets - a lighter, some change - trying to distract himself for the fact this might very well be his mind playing some tricks again. âIâm sorry to bother you.â Phil started, trying to control his voice. Heâd never done as much as give a second look to those ghosts, talking to one was just so much more stressful. âYou look a lot like someone I knew⌠You wouldnât happened to be called Viola, would you?â
Violaâs breath caught in her throat, and she shoved her phone back into her pocket, having been panic-texting Sophie about what she was supposed to do in this situation. She tried to hide the shock in her eyes at the fact that this was really happening, but she was rather concerned that she looked like a deer in the headlights. âHi, Phil.â She said quietly, confirming it without coming out and saying it. âYou look good. You seem good. Is everything good?â All this time, sheâd been trying to keep up with his life. She was at the wedding, even - but whether he was happy... it was hard to tell from a distance. Really, all she wanted was a hug from her big brother - but that was too much, and she knew it.

His fingers curled around her hand as she moved closer. Of course sheâd like getting into trouble, just like him. How lucky he was that she was the Catwoman heâd run into. There couldnât be many women in this bar that would have played along this far. He was intrigued. Who was she? âI was thinking we could start with drinks and see where the night takes us?â
Raquel never passed up the opportunity to flirt with an attractive man - especially not when the attractive man came to her, first. The little Batman joke was just a simple way to keep him interested - and, as he asked for them to get drinks, she had clearly done her job correctly. âThatâs not a bad offer.â She admitted, giving him just a bit of a nod.Â

Isaac wanted to protest, but he could see she wasnât entirely comfortable. âAlright, sure,â He muttered, a sigh escaping his lips as he walked towards the exit, wondering what she could possibly have to say.
Clara wasnât quite sure if taking Isaac outside to talk was very safe either - being more secluded with a hunter may not be smart. But, she could always rumour him, if she had to. So, when they left the coffee shop, and walked across the street towards one of the benches, she waited a moment before looking back up at him. âIâm not human, Isaac.âÂ

Lily gave the other a small grin at her reaction; although it really wasnât unusual to hear her say that. âAlright, alright. Youâre friend, then.â She rectified. Her eyebrows raised with curiosity as Josie added more. The gala wasnât exactly something she wanted to think about, so she tried not to focus on that. âAnd?â She asked, leaning slightly over the table. âDonât just stop talking now! What happened?â
Josie nodded as Lily corrected herself to say friend, but then sighed a bit at her excitement. âDonât get all excited.â She started first. âWe still havenât really... talked about what happened, not really. But... we slept together.â She explained, unable to put off explaining any longer, not after sheâd already hinted at it. Plus, if she was going to tell anyone and get a reasonable response, hopefully it would be Lily - once she calmed down anyway.
