@incorrect-kyoshinovels
i don't understand how people heard that seven havens is getting 26 episodes and are acting like it's a bad thing. both the last airbender and legend of korra have a similar number of episodes per season, and it's a welcome change from the ever-present formula of 7-10 episodes per season that all the streaming services are trying to cram a story into. for all the crppy decisions paramount has made where avatar is concerned, this is an improvement in my book.
the greatest minds of tumblr.com are trying to explain to me why it's not misogynistic to dislike Korra for her hotheadedness and 'anger issues' while liking Zuko.
Rolling up my sleeves to prepare to be on the front lines defending Korra yet again because some things never change
As much as I love Aang and Atla I wish that more people just liked the avatar universe. I’m more excited to see Kyoshi stuff and the new avatar than more Aang stuff. But people are so caught in their nostalgia that they can’t move past Aang. This is also why Korra got so much hate because people are so obsessed with the Atla characters and what the show itself meant to them as a child that they don’t appreciate the universe as a whole.
my offer to the rangshi nation🤲
Avatar Yumi and her Yunit!
Art by the wonderful @ube-kun!
Avatar Yumi is the Avatar OC that I've been spinning around in my head for the last 9 years. My original concept for the Earthbending Avatar after Korra.
I call her story Avatar: The Broken Earth
The story goes like this:
75 years after Kuvira's defeat, the Earth Continent is divided between a number of states, most of which are ruled by authoritarian governments. And the most despotic of them all is Shield Island, an isolationist military dictatorship off the eastern coast of the continent.
15 years old Yumi has been a patriotic citizen of Shield Island ever since she joined the training academy to become a bodyguard to the island's Supreme Commander. But the course of her life changes when she finds out she is the Avatar, the sworn enemy of the state, the person she was indoctrinated since birth to hate.
Now she must flee the only home she's ever known and drift from place to place as a refugee, looking for safety. Along the way she meets new friends who will help her on her journey.
Andon is a carefree guy. A firebender from the lower ring of Ba Sing Se who's practiced in the ways of the road. He offers to become Yumi's guide and the two travel together.
Yonten is the great-great-granddaughter of Aang and proud of it. A rather arrogant airbender who cares deeply about a lot of things, which goes against her people's philosophy of detachment.
Reza is an industrious and polite young boy. Very smart but also very ignorant about a lot of things since he came from a sheltered home. That sheltered home being the mobile imperial palace of the Second Earth Empire, where he was the emperor.
Wy is a waterbender from the Foggy Swamp Tribe. A weirdo even by her own people's standards, she likes to dabble in the dangerous and off-putting. She rejected the path decided for her and chose to be an apprentice to an apothecary that many (including Wy) call a witch.
Likai is Yumi's animal guide. A spider-cat stray who lived around the bodyguard academy's grounds. He would always come back even when told to go away. He is the last connection Yumi has to her home. His name literally means "go away".
Reza is actually a non-bender.
The Second Earth Empire isn't a top-down fascist dictatorship like Kuvira's empire, but more of a loose collection of semi-independent states and warlords that all on-paper swear fealty to the emperor.
It's loosely inspired by the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact.
The setting as a whole is inspired by the Cold War era. The world is divided into two broad alliances, referred to colloquially as the Green Bloc and Grey Bloc.
I already started writing their story!
It'll be published on my AO3 (with maybe more art by @ube-kun)
So like, canonically we know that Kyoshi lives to 230 years old. After reading both novels for the nth time and taking in all those Rangshi moments…. I simply believe that Rangi lived out the rest of her life with Kyoshi, and Kyoshi being her companion until her dying days. (The author also wished the same, I think)
Now, what this entails is that Rangi might have died around 80+ or so. This itself may have triggered the idea of extending her life within Kyoshi, because she wanted to carry on Rangi’s hope and honor for her (and also as the Avatar). Hei-Ran also spoke of this in the novel: “Rangi . . . ultimately, she is kind. No amount of drilling or hardship will ever change that about her. Which means there are places she will never go, places that are barred to her. You may have to visit them on her behalf, to protect her and others.”
Not to mention how there were many times in the novel it is implied how she loves Rangi (smitten to the core, I’d say. Rangi can firebend but also BEND HER OVER). There are people who will comment and say that ah no Kyoshi will date someone else, but I’d like to think that there’s nobody else after Rangi, with the exception of the adopted daughter Koko. So she tapped into immortality, and decided to go cleanup the world of injustice.
It was not until when Sister Disha said that Kyoshi has started to turn into the people she tried to get rid of, that something snapped inside of her. Of course they parted ways bitterly, but I could imagine that Kyoshi then see the error of her ways. Immortality can make you lose your humanity, and Rangi was the only single thread that held her down as Kyoshi.
I like to believe that those 2 years before she pass away, she recalled those moments when she was Rangi’s greatest and only headache. The easy simpler times. It was then time to let the cycle continue, and join her partner in the afterlife…
Bonus thoughts: Rangi waiting in the spirit world fuming her shit out cause Kyoshi make problems and nagged the shit out of her before throwing some spirit noodle she cooked by herself or something
Bonus thoughts 2: Kyoshi is like as big as a mountain… ain’t no way she be teaching those dainty girls how to kick an opponent bigger than them… that be Rangi’s doing teaching those Kyoshi Warriors i tell you.
Avatar universe characters as tweets part 12 (I think)
If the ATLA film is released in theaters, I will go watch it. The artists, writers, musicians, and everyone else who spent years making the film deserved it.
kataang shippers are beefing with zutara shippers, zutara shippers are beefing with kataang shippers and zukka shippers are being fed with their crumbs. guys. we're so back
As an ATLA fan
I think it is good to share again this petition - even if the movie got leaked and to honour the work of animators and the whole studio behind the film, we should push for theatrical release!!
Release Legend of Aang theatrically
can’t stop thinking about the role of the avatar as a curse rather than a blessing, about raava in her entire purpose as the spirit of light and order taking her friend’s selfless goal of bringing balance and continuing it beyond him into life after life, unknowing soul after unknowing soul becoming part of what was originally the story of one man and one spirit without their knowledge or will, having this absolute cosmic destiny placed upon them from the moment of their birth and not even being able to escape it in their death
but hey they get to bend all four elements soooo
YES. SHE IS SO RIGHT!
I love this phrase, I love Ta Min, and I relate to her so much istg.
She and my guy Kavik are so under appreciated in this fandom.
Katara: long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony
Roku, who's first mission as the Avatar was trying to get the earthkingdom to leave an island that killed every outsider that set foot on it because his best friend manipulated him into doing it and nearly risked war with both the island and the earthkingdom:
Kyoshi, who had to take down the biggest pirate clan in the world before even knowing she was the avatar, was chased after by someone she considered a friend, and after had to stabilize the earthkingdom from daofei and got involved in fire nation royal family drama:
Kuruk, who had his spirit corrupted and died an early death because of all the dark spirits he had to fight because they were attacking humans:
Yangchen, who had to stop a woman from taking over the entire shang system across four nations and had to face several combustion benders to do it, and also had to make sure the earthking or the chief of the watertribe didn't find out so they wouldn't try to use these people as a weapon, and lost her bison in the process:
any avatar born after kuruk can't flirt... all they know is 4 elements, love their wife, hate the government, be bisexual, suck at pai sho, and die
i love drawing sukka yuri (aka regular sukka just give it a few years…. #trust)
