Here's one scene where Jaron is kidnapped and the kidnappers ask for ransom of one million garlins
Jaron :One million garlins? That's my price? This is insulting. I’m the King of Carthya. And you’re asking for one million garlins?Make it two billion.
Here's another scene where Jaron was kidnapped inspired from that The Big Hit comedy scene when Jaron’s asked to read what's written in the note
Jaron: I have been abduct.
Kidnapper 1: That's abducted.
Jaron: It says abduct.
Kidnapper 2:Just say abducted.
Jaron:I have been abducted. I am fine now, but I may not be for loring. If you do not pay the sun of one million garlands- Seriously. Was this dictated to a goat?Cause honestly, even Roden with no formal education writes better than this. Actually... even Fink writes better now. And that’s entirely Tobias’s doing. So really, congratulations-Your writing is worse than the writing of both Roden and Fink .
Kidnapper 2: "Loring"? "Sun of one million garlands"?
Jaron:That's what it says.
Kidnapper3: That's "long" and the "sum" of one million "garlins". You know what it means.Just read what it means.
Jaron: I may not be for long. If you do not pay the sum of one million garlins. Or else you will never see me alive again as these men mean businesses.
( Jaron laughs): Who wrote this, really?
Kidnapper 2:Stop it!!
Jaron: You told me to read this. That's what I'm doing.
The kidnappers start fighting arguing with the one who wrote that note.
Kidnapper 1: Improvise the last line.
Jaron: Fine then- These group of ridiculously demanding, bug-brained, impressively incompetent, utterly illiterate , barnyard-scented men mean business.
I added more as I forgot to add Serena. (She is my fav too. 😭) i still missed some of them so if you vote for anyone else who is not there in the list write in the comments.
I think Jaron will be mad at me for adding Fink's rat. 🥲 (But I just remembered they do add non human beings and even non living beings in official popularity polls in Japan.) So it's fair.
book 4 headcanons ( don't have much to say about him here as book 4 made everyone ooc but i tried to make a little sense of his actions using my headcanons)
Considering the number of times Jaron got captured in book 3 during the war, I think it had something to do about his insecurities about being the captain. Also Roden and Jaron both nearly got executed during the war so Roden might have thought he didn't do his job well. ( he did say he had been trying to protect since he became captain but Jaron never made it easy at one point in book 4.)
Okay we agree Jaron himself was ooc in book 4 too, so I think during the time skip he didn't give much importance to his friends which could have made Roden say Jaron treats them as servant. (I mean in the introduction and the first chapter Jaron didn't even much talk of most of his friends and barely said what they did in the timeskip.)
Roden definitely has anger issues. I see that along with it being an impulsive self defense during his fight with Jaron on shadow tide as the only reasons why he would stab Jaron’s leg. I am sure he was really really sorry and hurt about what he did in the heat of the moment. ( He apologised to Jaron about it more than once in the books in different scenes I remember.)
I love to think the reason Roden hid about strick having Darius's crown and sword and that he could be alive was because it was a sensitive topic for Jaron ( as Darius is his brother). It's more like why Jaron hid Darius’s death from Amarinda in book 1.
Also I think Roden wanted to be sure about the truth of Darius being alive as he couldn't believe it and it would change many things.
I think he didn't want to lure Jaron into a trap which was why he told Jaron to get off Belland and let him handle things but Jaron didn't do it and Roden had to make sure Amarinda is safe so he was forced to do it in a way. ( probably conflicts canon but I don't know why else he would do it. His actions were confusing. He even implied he would rather stand on the other side of the bars. )
Despite the situation they were in, Roden did not really lose trust in Jaron though. ( He said he still had hope for him to be able to stop it more than he he had on himself when Jaron was in prison.)
I don't think Roden wanted Darius to be his king but it was the harsh reality to him as Darius used to be crown prince. If he remained the captain he felt he would have to follow Darius's orders. (Don't know why else Roden would imply that as to Roden personally I think Jaron would always be his king but I think he felt that his job would require him to obey Darius as king. And also Jaron wasn't the type to go against his brother for the throne. I think Roden knew it better than anyone. )
Actually I am glad and happy that Roden didn't force Jaron to fight his brother to have the throne. (I might have ended up more or less hating him if he did that considering how Jaron’s mind was back then and how much he loved his older brother.) I think one of the reasons why Roden didn't do it was because to him that won't make Jaron any different from how Roden had been in the past.
Roden can't see people for who they are as clearly as Jaron can which was also why it took so long for Roden to connect the dots about Sage being Jaron. This is also why Roden ended up believing Cregan's words. And this is why Roden was perhaps the last one to realize how evil Wilta was despite how much he talked to her. ( Well Wilta manipulated and tricked even Jaron for a long time but Jaron was also the first one to catch Wilta's act after all. And besides that I don't think Jaron trusted Wilta much anyway considering how Roden and Wilta talking about Jaron annoyed him.
Roden did learn to predict Jaron’s plans. (Becuase of how close they had become as friends and how much they know each other now). He was right when he said he could predict Jaron’s plans. Like he said near the climax in book 4 that Jaron would fake an injury to give Darius time to come here and Jaron did agree that was supposed to be the plan but not anymore but Roden added that would be part of a larger plan requiring help from his friends. And Roden was right as Jaron just stalled time in the end to blow up Wilta's ships. 🤣 (Tobias could have told about exploding the ships to Roden but I think Tobias was lowkey not trusting Roden either so I don't know if I told Roden that plan.)
Roden did have a crush on Wilta but I think it was kind of puppy love. She was dangerously beautiful after all. And about saving Wilta from drowning, she looked like a helpless girl to him and Roden couldn't let a girl drown anyway.
He probably got over his crush on Wilta after book 5. ( since he didn't mention a word about liking her. And also I can't imagine him wanting to date a girl because of whom he almost lost his father and many of his men and his friends. 😭)
I think post book 4 Jaron might have clearly explained Roden why he made him his captain as Roden implied he still didn't understand it. ( They probably get to have a proper talk since the castle argument at some point.)
It took probably some time but since Jaron lost intentionally Roden and Jaron agreed later that Jaron is still the pirate king. I wonder if they had a proper fight to be pirate king again. 🤔
Happy Birthday to the best king and my book crush Jaron!! 👑
🎂🎁🎊🎉🎈😍💙🎈🎉🎊🎁🎂
Here's a fanart I made of him.
I have been posting my Jaron headcanons and posted the final part of Jaron headcanons (for now probably) today. You can find all of my jaron headcanons under #jaron hcs tag .
Also I posted the first chapter of his birthday fic. Click here for the link. Fic name: Happy Birthday Jaron!!
( I have completed writing the fic. But it became a 2 chapters fic. Chapter 2 is my favorite and I plan to post it tomorrow.)
Also I couldn't decide on Jaron’s expressions so here is a collage of it. 🤭
Tobias’s father did live for a few years after the death of his mother at birth. Tobias had a good life then but he didn't remember it much as his father died when he was still very young.
Tobias had a hard time when he first went to the orphanage in Gelvins after the death of his grandmother.
Even after he was given extra privileges for his education in the orphanage he had a difficult time and wished more than once to have his old life back.
He did dream to get out of the orphanage, use his education to get a job and make a better life for himself.
During his first few days in the orphanage he missed his grandmother. In fact he still misses his grandmother.
He didn't have a very good life before he went to the orphanage but he had a happy life and loved each and every book his grandmother used to bring from the library for him to read.
He did think he was superior to other kids in the orphanage as he was more educated and good education was hard to get for most commoners.
He did read a few medicine books at a young age which initially made him wish to be a physician.
He didn't care much for Latamer but his death did scare him and he didn't want to end up like him. He anticipated if he didn't become the prince there was no way out so he wanted to become the prince.
He did have a superiority complex when he first met Roden and Sage as he thought himself to be the most educated.
It's why Tobias didn't want to be friends with Sage and Roden as he felt he deserved better friends. Also he didn't think why they should be friends since they were competing against each other to death kind of.
Tobias could never get in book 1 why Sage was being difficult and so rebellious but he did understand that a little when he found out Sage was Jaron.
The revelation had certainly shocked him but many things began to make sense to him when Jaron revealed things during the coronation.
He got scared after he used the knife on Sage. He never harmed anyone in his life before that so he didn't realize what he did after he used the knife. He only wanted to intimidate him.
When Sage lied for Tobias's sake to cover up his crime that's when Tobias began to think of him as a friend for the first time. He didn't think that Sage would do that for him after the horrible thing he did.
Also Sage kept his word by taking him to the castle that saved his life! That's when Tobias wanted more than ever for Sage to be the prince as he felt Carthya would be in good hands if someone who is generous like Sage is king.
It definitely shocked him how despite everything Sage wanted to be his friend and it shocked him more when he turned out to be Jaron who is the king now.
The fact Jaron gave Tobias a place in the castle besides having made him his friend, caused Tobias to become loyal to Jaron.
In book 1 Tobias did once asked without knowing and being curious if Erin was a criminal and I think post tfp he freaked out realizing Sage was Jaron and he said bad things about his mother before him considering what jaron did to humfrey at ten. 😅
He definitely apologized to Jaron several times in the time skip between tfp and trk for all he did in book 1.
I think he even implied that Sage's father was a coward and he got double freak out when he realized that back then he actually talked about Jaron’s parents before him. 😰 (probably apologised for those things too after tfp immediately when they got to talk properly.)
When Jaron sent him and Mott to find Roden, Tobias became good friends with Mott. Also he didn't understand why Jaron wanted Roden back after what he did in book 1. (It was hard for him to make sense of jaroden I guess.)
He didn't like the idea of going around all over the kingdom and to even Avenia to search for Roden. Tobias didn't like him after all for what he did and how he shook hands with Cregan and wanted to be king. But Tobias had sworn loyalty to Jaron so he did it.
His life is also similar to Jaron too being an orphan and having lived in an orphanage and Jaron also didn't have many choices to make in his life.
There is something he had in common with Amarinda. Tobias said in book 1 he never made any choices. Which was just like how Amarinda didn't have any choice in her life. After his parents death he was told to live with his grandmother and so he did and after the death of his grandmother he was told to live in the orphanage and so he did. And when he was asked to go to Conner, he had to. He probably understood Amarinda in that sense when she didn't have a choice with her life.
Amarinda's story did interest Tobias but that's mostly because he was curious about the princess. Though when he first saw her first he wasn't much interested until he spoke with her later after tfp. (I think this because he looked disinterested when Amarinda was in the dinner with Conner)
Tobias knows Jaron a lot and was the first one ever besides Mott to understand him I think. Mostly because he made Amarinda understand Jaron during the time they were in the castle.
Tobias did admit the horrible things he did in book 1 and how he felt sorry for those things to Amarinda when he told her all that happened in Farthenwood.
Tobias once thought being king might be a good but after what he went through when he took Jaron’s place for almost ten days in the castle, he realized partly how horrible that life was. Even though his time in the castle as king was much safer than Jaron’s. I think he didn't like how everyone had their eyes on him. A king can hardly be alone and Tobias loves to be alone and study. He would never desire of a king's life or dream of it ever again.
He did end up being one of the most loyal and truest friends Jaron ever had. Since he became friends with Jaron he never once abandoned him though Jaron didn't treat him nicely or angered him sometimes. (Even in TCK Tobias was angry about Jaron leaving behind Amarinda but he didn't leave Jaron and stuck with him. Even if he was a little angry about Jaron hiding the Scope he didn't abandon him and helped him till the end instead of going out to search for Amarinda.) He might not like some of the things Jaron does but he is like the only one besides Mott perhaps who won't leave Jaron no matter what. And that's what is the best part about him!
When Darius visits Carthya Jaron spend a lot of time with him to make up for the lost time they had because of how they were separated after the pirate attack and series incidents.
Jaron sometimes visits Mrs. Turbeldy orphanage to make sure that the orphanage is in good condition ( besides the short story where he gives supplies to the orphanage). But whenever he goes to Carchar he often go to the church he visited every month as Sage to meet his father. He sits there and think about the last time he saw his father there and we know that the fact still haunts him that he never tried to talk and reconcile with him then. (according to the author)
Sometimes he even imagines an IF scenario in his head about all that he could have talked with his father the last time he saw him if he knew he wouldn't see him again.
I told it before once that Jaron doesn't want to invite the pirates all the time but he also invites the pirates sometimes and most people doesn't like it especially Darius which is mostly because Jaron can't explain to his brother yet why having the pirates who attacked his ship at ten is a good thing.
When Jaron goes out on the streets in Drylliad ( actually he doesn't like going out as king so he often prefers going out alone or with Mott probably if he needs guards or maybe sometimes Roden ) he sometimes meets those he helped as a kid ( like those in the short stories or past stories) as they thank him for his help then. ( We know some of his pranks actually helped people especially in that Missing Prince short story)
Jaron hates being awakened early in the morning especially if he had some king's work or meeting in the morning. He stays up all night roaming around the castle or enjoying his own time so he always ends up being in a bad mood if you wake him up early. Errol knows it definitely and had probably added this in his list of instructions to servants. (Errol can probably write a whole book about how to manage the king.😅)
Jaron found interesting theories in an astronomy book while he was supposed to help Lump decipher the Scope in book 5 .( He mentioned it). Since then he began to develop an interest in astronomy as it is about stars and planets and he reads astronomy books a lot post series. He reads them quickly too as Jaron only reads when he is interested and then he can finish a book fast if he is interested. If not it would take him forever to finish the book.
When Jaron was a baby Erin used to sing lullabies to him and Darius. One of them is Jaron’s favorite. But Jaron was too young to remember the lyrics except the rhythm. But Darius did being four years older than him so he once told Jaron the lyrics when Jaron mentioned it post series. When Jaron heard it being older now, he realized that lullaby was a message from Erin to him actually. (this a fic idea and I haven't written it. the message will be there when I write it.)
This one was fic idea too but definitely could be canon compliant . After book 5 Jaron didn't want his resigned regents back in his court but they wanted to rejoin and apologised ( some did resign voluntarily but I think it was said they resigned as they were threatened by Castor) so Jaron did let them rejoin but not without punishment. Knowing it's Jaron the punishment he gave his regents was a funny one. You can make it up but for me it was to make them listen to Tobias talking about long boring things for hours. He told Tobias to make them specifically twice as boring and long and Tobias had fun doing it. But yes Jaron told Tobias not to talk those things when Jaron was in the room.
When Jaron began castle repairs post book 5 he wanted to begin with the crypt room first. That was the resting place of the three rulers and his parents ( Castor caused an explosion beneath the crypt so the room must have been more damaged than it was before probably as Jaron used a different exit to get out of the cave beneath it.)
We know about Jaron’s experiments with gunpowder. But also one time instead of causing destruction he kind of accidentally ended up inventing fireworks that shocked everyone. (This was my new year fic. Lol)
There is a group of outlaws in Carthya who are actually good doing nice things for the people and annoy the nobles and regents by stealing things from them (like how Sage was like ). Jaron likes them and once invited them to a festival. You can imagine what was everyone's reactions to it. 😅 Especially the regents and the nobles. They were more like why Jaron invited them. (Actually it was a fic headcanon too.)
Often when Jaron watches a theatre performance( being guest king) he can't help but think or even comment accidentally how he can act better than them if the play is a poor one.
Sometimes Jaron probably does stupid things because he felt like doing them.
His plans do look apparently foolish to people and Jaron is very much aware of it even before anyone tells them it is stupid. Sometimes he just still go along with those plans instead of the easier option of choosing the safer option and that is because he sees those plans as the only way to save the kingdom and those he cares about. He knows the consequences he might have to face if the plan goes wrong. So he isn't as stupid as people think he is!
Jaron can actually see people for who they are and is why he became friends even with his enemies. That's because he saw the good in them that no one else did. He won't become friends with people who are completely bad or didn't become good after all like Gregor or Vargan. A few examples of it were when he didn't know Gregor was a traitor but he still didn't like him since he became king and also how he knew Castor was a bad person since he was a kid which was why he didn't want to have a meeting with him in the first place for months as was mentioned in book 5. So he can tell if the person he is talking with has good or bad in them. (He might have suspected Amarinda but that was because he didn't talk to her properly. ) And he made Tobias, Roden and Mott his friends despite their actions in the books in the beginning or in the series because he knew they had good in them.
Jaron as king don't like to attend regents meeting and wish he could skip them but most often he can't (because of Mott and kerwyn) No one wants to interact with Jaron post-meeting as he always end up in a bad mood then.
We know one of the reasons Jaron change cooks is that he hates overcooked meat. But another reason is that Jaron doesn't like castle food. He got too used to simple food as Sage. He never complains when he is eating at some simple place in Carthya.
Since Jaron is rarely alone as king, if Jaron has free time he would firstly use it to give some time to himself and be alone doing what he wants.
In the gardens Jaron might just remain lost in thoughts for hours staring at nothing and he won't even mind if it rains as rain has a sense of freedom in it that in turn makes him feel happy sometimes. He is one of those people who feel the rain instead of just getting wet. ( But yes if he gets wet in the rain he would be lectured by Mott later.)
Jaron often drives the servants away whenever they hover except Errol as he is also his friend. Besides Errol is too used to Jaron’s complaints.
Jaron visits his mother's room sometimes as he can still feel her there even now. (This is angsty I know).
When Humfrey first proposed a betrothal of Jaron’s future child to one of his grandchildren Jaron choked on his cider and asked Humfrey how old did Humfrey think he was, being shocked. (Jaron in my own headcanons is unmarried so this is a lot funnier there but I think it works for canon Jaron too when Humfrey made this proposal. Lol.)
Jaron’s first meeting with kippenger post war happened after a long time. (They actually talked through letters before but real meeting happened later) And Kippenger did kind of triggered his war trauma or flashbacks which made this meeting a little difficult. ( you cannot convince me he doesn’t have ptsd from the war.)
Actually Harlowe and Mott might be the only one who really knows about Jaron’s ptsd. Harlowe is the best person who can soothe Jaron like a father when Jaron has nightmares.
It took some time but Jaron did eventually tell Darius all that happened while he was Sage or about the everything he faced before tck. It's a little easier to share the war with Darius who wasn't there as Jaron doesn't want to give the war flashbacks to his friends who all suffered in the war in book 3.
Also Jaron can easily share how much he miss his parents with Darius as Darius miss them too and can understand and also share the pain with him.
Jaron doesn't like celebrating his birthday because of book 1 events which happened near his birthday and he can't help but always remember and miss his parents more than he usually does on his birthdays. His friends try to make him happy or have a small celebration or surprises for him on his birthday though. Which is good as Jaron hated the formal birthday celebrations Eckbert used to do anyway.
Jaron do plan a birthday celebration for all of his friends and brothers every year. ( Jaron doesn't know Fink’s real birthday but Fink had one made by Erick so Jaron celebrates that day for Fink. He definitely gifted Fink a sword on his first birthday on the castle.)
Jaron is actually a very good singer and musician. He was only pretending to be bad at music. But he doesn't sing or play music often as it reminds him of his parents.
( basically Jaron headcanons part 3 but during his time as Sage.)
The first few days he spent in Mrs. Turbeldy's orphanage were very hard for him till he got used to his life there in the orphanage.
When he woke up in the middle of the first night in the orphanage it was difficult for him to believe that living as a orphan was his new reality and that he might have to live like this for the rest of his life.
The last conversation he had with his Eckbert had replayed itself in his mind over and over again. The part where Jaron asked him to stay in that church in dichell a little longer but Eckbert couldn't do so for it might raise suspicion, hurt sage the most.
Sage wasn't really friendly with the orphanage kids who were his age or near his age but the younger boys loved Sage as he used to often save them from being bullied by the older ones.
The orphanage kids sometimes wondered why Sage act like he deserve better treatment in the orphanage. (The sad tragedy was that he was a prince so he was initially acting like he should be treated better.)
A few days later after Turbeldy has found out that Sage was no son of a dead duke, a kid of the orphanage caught sage on the ledge outside the orphanage at night and asked him what he was doing there. Sage said it was none of his business. The kid said since he was no son of a duke Sage shouldn't find it hard to get used to the orphanage life. Sage told him to leave as he wanted to be alone.
Jaron was no early riser but while Sage lived in the orphanage he ended up making a habit of rising early considering how scarce food was in the orphanages. (You would miss breakfast if you didn't rise early.) Also it is easier to wake up early here considering the condition of the orphanage and the life he was living right now.
One thing Sage liked about the orphanage life is that no one around him treated him as a prince anymore. Also if someone didn't like Sage they were honest about it to him. It's something that didn't happen when Sage was prince Jaron. People bowed whenever he entered the room even when they didn't like him or respected him.
Also most of the boys he used to play with as prince Jaron always used to let him and Darius win the games because they were royalties. That wasn't the case in the orphanage. Though most games in the orphanage could hardly be called games as they always ended up becoming a fight between the boys that needed Turbeldy’s intervention.
Though he was angry with his father and blamed him for the present situation he was in and as hard as he tried not to think of his family, often Sage wondered how his mother and brother were doing without him. Especially his mother.
Sage did see his mother whenever the royal carriage passed the orphanage and more than once he wished he could go to her and tell her son is alive and not dead as she believed.
One of the reasons Sage didn't bow whenever the royal family rode through the streets was because he wanted to them to recognize him despite his disguise.
Sometimes some of the orphanage kids used to join Sage when he played pranks on Mrs. Turbeldy as they had fun doing it but many didn't join him as most of the kids feared Turbeldy's anger.
They definitely pulled a prank once on Mrs. Turbeldy using the weed Ayagall.
Though if any of the kids who helped Sage in his pranks got caught by Turbeldy then Sage would take the blame to protect them as he didn't want the kids to be punished for a prank that was his idea.
The real tragedy was that just as Sage saw Eckbert every month in the church near the orphanage, Eckbert saw him too but they never tried to talk with each other. Never going to talk to him is something Jaron still now regrets.
After Sage left the orphanage some of the younger boys missed him and even some of the boys near his age missed him too despite the fights they had.
As difficult and painful as the orphanage life was Jaron still miss that life and always would because back then he had freedom that he could never have again as king.
Mrs. Turbeldy still thinks Sage isn't Jaron even when he visit the orphanage with his friends post series and this shocks every one of his friends but honestly Jaron had given up trying to explain her. So when his friends look at Jaron if Turbeldy treats and address him as Sage even now then Jaron just tells them don't ask.
Actually it makes Jaron happy to think that to Turbeldy he might forever remain Sage.
Sage probably hates bean bread so much that he would never eat it ever again if he ever sees it.
These are mostly headcanons I used in my fics but I think they can be canon-compliant too. (We already have a lot of Jaron related stuff in books which I don't think I would mention as we already know that but I can't help but make more of them. These are mostly prequel, some series and post series canons and includes his family.)
As a kid Jaron didn't have close friends. He did have friends like that castle page he made a bet with or with whom he was pranks for fun but not a friend with whom he could share his thoughts or feelings. The only person near his age whom he could talk to was his brother Darius. Which is one of the reasons why Jaron was so desperate to have him back as his brother in book 4!
Jaron in his childhood wanted to lead the armies of Carthya into battle someday. Not as king though as that was something Jaron thought Darius was good at and never him.
Darius had to grow up fast being crown prince but when Jaron was a baby he did look at Jaron and felt he was cute. (He mentioned it to Erin once. 🥺) And back then Jaron didn't do anything except climbing over balconies occasionally which caused nursemaids to complain about him as book 4 said but Darius couldn't understand when he saw sleeping baby Jaron how could he be causing trouble to those nursemaids.
As children, Darius once asked Jaron why wasn't he friends with the noble kids as Jaron could talk to them and Jaron said they either didn't like him or treated him as a prince which he didn't like so Darius is the only one he could talk to. Darius asked him what would Jaron do without him and Jaron as a kid back then believed he would always have Darius. ( Which wasn't true. I know it's angsty.)
As Sage, Jaron sometimes think about that conversation with Darius sometimes. It hurt him then to see how wrong he was to think things would be the same and that he would always have Darius.
We know Darius was said to be the only one who caught Jaron climbing the castle walls that was mostly because they shared the same room so Darius sometimes caught Jaron sneaking out but he kept quiet about him climbing the walls. Jaron didn't know why he kept quiet about it. (Tfp says that Darius kept quiet about his mischief and Jaron didn't know it was because he loved Jaron and wanted to have a life Darius himself couldn't have.)
Jaron hates servants dressing him up and he always did. (We see how he is with Errol in tfp.) So sometimes as a kid when Jaron couldn't dress properly Darius or Erin fixed his clothes and helped him.
So remember the spice cake dream Jaron talked about? That happened to him as a kid once after eating spice cakes and he did get scared back then (he was very young then). He awoke Darius back then when they were sharing room. Darius only knows about this but he did end up revealing it to Jaron’s friends later post series. Lol.
It wasn't too difficult for Darius to find Jaron as a kid whenever Jaron disappeared sometimes. So Jaron used to ask him did he have a map of all his hiding places as a joke. Actually Jaron even now sometimes disappears because of king's work and how much he said in books he wants to to away from being around people. He hates people following him or be around him 24 hrs because he is king.
Darius(when he visits the castle) is one of those people who still finds Jaron in his hiding places as he still remembers where Jaron used to go as a kid.
Jaron wouldn't have survived many of his falls from the walls or trees in his childhood if Darius wasn't there to save him. (I totally think that okay. ) Rest of the falls he survived was because of luck probably.
This one is angsty too. As people often used to tell kid Jaron that he belonged to the devils ( like through their Saints' Day gifts or by just saying it) after Jaron became Sage, he thought being an orphan and living this life was probably because of the devils and he believed for the first time then that those people were probably right. This is also when he started to believe in devils more than the saints.
Actually as a kid Jaron used to talk all night and keep Darius awake being like Fink sometimes and so whenever Darius, Jaron and Fink have sleepovers and Fink talks (probably when Darius visits Carthya sometimes they do) then Darius mentions that Jaron was like Fink as kids whenever Jaron tells Fink to be quiet. Actually Darius says this to Jaron for a lot of stuff Fink does.
In his childhood Eckbert used to often tell Jaron to be like Darius as Darius was obedient and much more like a prince. Once Jaron took this literally and did everything Darius did in a dinner event. More like he copied everything Darius did like his movements or even repeated what he said or like when Darius leaned back, Jaron did it too or when he yawned, Jaron did too. Darius got annoyed and excused himself and left the hall and Jaron followed him too. Jaron explained why he was copying Darius and Darius couldn't help but smile at that though he was still annoyed.
When Jaron was very young he did try to be the kind of prince Darius was and Eckbert wanted him to be but he eventually realised he could only be himself and stopped trying.
Darius was also Jaron’s motivator as a kid whenever Jaron got sad because he failed to live up to Eckbert's expectations and got scolded by him. (Erin was too sometimes!)
After Jaron first returned to the castle post book 1, the castle hardly felt the same and he knew it never would with his family gone. He might not have cried in their funeral but he did cry alone in his room. But he eventually did end up building up a found family of his own with his friends and parent like figures. 💙
(This one is mostly about his time with Erin and Eckbert and his feelings about them)
One of the reasons Jaron as a kid thought Erin is the only one who loved him was because unlike Eckbert or anyone else Erin never used to scold him the same way every other grown ups did. Erin was not so serious as Jaron said in the books so sometimes she used to laugh at some of Jaron’s pranks as they used to remind her of her own childhood. (Erin was mischievous like Jaron after all. We know he got this from Erin.)
Still Erin used to caution Jaron about what he should and shouldn't do in a good way and even tried to prevent Eckbert from finding out what Jaron did sometimes. She also told Eckbert not to scold Jaron so much whenever Eckbert got too angry with him, reasoning that he is a kid and didn't mean any harm (like that tapestry incident). Besides how much time Erin spent with Jaron, these are the other reasons Jaron believed Erin loved him.
We know about Erin diaries. It was hard for Jaron to read it when he found them in his mother's room. But after a very long time(post series) he did read them. Sometimes whenever he misses her he reads them alone in his room.
Jaron’s last words to Erin was that she wouldn't ever see him again which he said because Erin sided with Eckbert when he sent Jaron to Bymar and that line became true in the worst possible way. Jaron didn't know it would become true as a kid of ten years old and that fact is what haunts Jaron even now at present. That he didn't get to apologise to Erin for saying that and that those words became true which he didn't know back then is one of the reasons why Jaron finds it so difficult to think or talk about his mother. Though he knows Erin forgave him for those words he thinks he shouldn't have said them even if he didn't know what would happen back then. (I know this is angsty.)
Current Jaron visits Erin's grave on her birthday to wish her every year. If Darius comes to Carthya then he visits her grave too with him to wish her. (Well this is partly from an Erin birthday fic idea I might write someday.)
Sometimes when Jaron sees Roden and Harlowe having a father-son moment, he wonders if he could have had such a relationship with his own father(Eckbert) as they always had a distance between each other. He wonders if there was someway he could have fixed it and be close like Roden-Harlowe. (This one is lowkey because of that TST moment when Jaron hesitated to tell Roden about Harlowe.)
We know why Jaron keeps secrets but Jaron also got this habit of keeping secrets from Eckbert. (Though Eckbert was worse than Jaron as we know he hid that Jaron is alive from his mother.)
We know Eckbert never showed much that he loved Jaron but he did love Jaron. This fact remained a secret from Jaron for years as he just didn't know how to show it. But he actually felt guilty about making Jaron live as Sage though he also felt it was needed to be done to keep Jaron alive. Sometimes used to visit Jaron’s room during those four years and got sad about what he did.
Also Eckbert kept a secret diary no one knows about ( Conner never found it). But Jaron did later when he came back to the castle years later (actually post series) and he read about what Eckbert wrote there. He was reluctant to read his father's diary at first but then he did after a long time and he broke into tears realising how Eckbert never spoke how much he loved Jaron. (This is another angsty fic thing but could be canon-compliant)
It is also not that Eckbert never showed that loved Jaron. It was only that he did that when Jaron was too young to remember it or didn't notice it. The times when he used to teach kid Jaron how to play his favorite instruments was definitely one of them.
Jaron in his childhood loves to skip his lessons so he often used to act like he was ill when he wasn't. Once when he was really sick no one believed him until later. That day he fell asleep in class and got scolded by his tutors and eckbert. It was Erin or Darius who realized that Jaron was really ill. When Eckbert found out he felt guilty for scolding Jaron and stayed beside jaron all night and cared for him but after Jaron got well he didn't remember that. That was until Darius told Jaron about that story years later though Jaron found it hard to believe.
Even if Jaron wasn't the kind of prince Eckbert wanted him to be, Eckbert knew what Jaron was capable of. Jaron was capable of much more than being a prince. He also knew Jaron loved freedom and perhaps letting him become Sage was Eckbert's way of giving him that freedom.
As hard as it was to tell Jaron to live on his own as an orphan, Eckbert always believed Jaron would manage it and survive it because he is Jaron. (It was wrong to do that and there were other ways to make Jaron live but I need my angst okay and I believe Eckbert wouldn't have made Jaron Sage if he knew Jaron could die. He had that faith that Jaron can survive this despite his upbringing as a prince.)
Jaron believed for a very long time that Eckbert never saw him when he visited the church at the end of every month and watched his father from far as Sage.
Though it took a very long time, actually years Jaron did eventually come to an understanding with his father and realized he did love him! He knows that he and his father are different people and would make different decisions in different circumstances but they both wanted Carthya to be a better kingdom and that's what Jaron intends to do. Though he never wanted to be king, he would still try to rule the best way he could.
Can I just say that one scene in TRK made Jaron feel like a Disney prince when he was feeding seagulls and talking to them? 😍 💙
Though the moment Devlin showed up throwing the rock and making that seagull fly away I got super mad. Like why did he do that? And then he called them pests and scavengers? What did he think of himself? I am with Jaron. I was angry at Devlin for other things but I could say I hate him mostly for trying to harm that cute and innocent seagull.
If Devlin didn't come and do that, Jaron could have befriended that seagull.😭
So I decided to modify the designs for the Carthyan flag and change the shades of the color and make the ring a little more descriptive( well author gave us freedom to imagine the ring but I think tfp mentioned it having the crest imprinted on it so I tried to do it like that.)
Also I made two versions as I couldn't decide which one to keep.
And if you want the King's ring I tried to do it. I don't know which one looks better( so there are two versions)
And i tried to modify Avenia's flag
Also I tried to change the Gelyn's Flag shade.
And I added Prozarians flag too( I know it is very simple. But just changed the trim side and color shades.)(It is just Green with a white trim)
So based on author's description, I just tried to do the flags of the countries of TAS world.
So this was author's description of Carthya's flag: The Carthyan flag has three gold stripes across the upper third. In the center of the flag is the king coat of arms. The Carthyan crest is in the shape of a blue shield with a gold stripe running horizontally to divide the upper third. The right side of the stripe bears an image of the king’s ring, and the left has a knot. The uppermost of the crest is held by a falcon, The bottom third has a griffin bearing a laurel around its neck. A bottom banner lists the words "Egolath & Corodir", meaning Duty and Honor.
So I think Carthyan flag looks like this perhaps based on the description.
And Bymar's flag's description was: Bymar's colors are blue and white. The flag is divided into four squares, blue and white on the top and white and blue on the bottom.
So Bymar's Flag
And Mendenwal's flag was said to be like this: The colors of Mendenwal are yellow and white. Mendenwal's flag is white with three yellow stars in row in the center.
Probably Mendenwal's flag is like this
And Gelyn's flag was said to be like this: Gelyn's colors are yellow and green, the flag of Gelyn is yellow with a green rectangle in the upper right corner.
Gelyn's Flag could be like this
And Avenia's flag description was like this: Avenia's flag is entirely red with the black emblem of the pirates at the center, to acknowledge them. And we know pirate symbol is an X with a sea serpent angled northeast and snake angled to north west. ( I couldn't do that very well but it is mostly like this. I don't know if it's correct. I took direction of the heads)
So I have ideas for Tobias's birthday which is planned by Jaron and Amarinda together involving others too. But Mott's birthday is next day and my favorite dynamic and relationship in the series is of Jaron and Mott since book 1. So what would Jaron do to surprise or celebrate Mott's birthday? I have no idea for that.
Also who would tell Jaron of Mott's birthday?( Mott himself?🤔) Jaron knows Tobias's birthday like friends do and Harlowe told Jaron of Roden’s birthday in my fic and Jaron and Darius and Amarinda being royalties their birthdays are known to all like celebrities are like.
And I am sure Fink wouldn't know his real birth-date. I headcanon it was made by Erick or Jaron. ( Maybe Erick.)
As for Amarinda's birthday she wouldn't like grand celebration like Jaron doesn't either and Amarinda would want small celebration. Maybe she would spend the day with everyone first and then quietly with Tobias.
As for Jaron's birthday of course I have an idea for that but it's sad too as he got 15 at the end of TFP according to the author so I think his coronation was on his birthday( it happened in other series I saw) Or after his coronation day but still he would be sad because he would miss his parents and the day would remind him of TFP mostly. So it's basically his friends planning to cheer him up with a play. (That is full of mistakes and comedic. Fink over act , Roden tripped and Tobias lost his line being the narrator because of the mistakes. Jaron ends up laughing and tells them they are all terrible actors and joined them.🤣😭) That is only part of how the story ends. Jaron’s birthday would probably be the longest birthday chapter.
And since we are talking of birthdays in my headcanon Amarinda would celebrate Imogen's birthday and arrange for a celebration herself.( Being besties I am sure Amarinda would be the only one to know it as I never see Jaron and Imogen share mundane things in books on page. Jaron didn't know Imogen's real last name before proposing her and only says maybe she would like these flowers but he never said which flowers she liked . So Yes it's Amarinda knowing Imogen's birthday and planning it for her. Plus Jaron and Imogen are exes now to me after book 5.) Also I wouldn't want Batilda in the castle on Imogen's birthday and I am sure Jaron wouldn't want Batilda in his castle either. But Imogen would as Batilda is her mother and she was listening to Batilda a lot in TSC so maybe the celebration happens outside the castle.🤣
I would only write Tobias’s birthday besides Jaron’s probably since I want the birthdays in Jaron’s pov mostly. (Like there could be third person sometimes.) I wanted to show Jaron's bond with the birthday characters and the birthday characters bond with others.(I wrote Jaron celebrating Roden's for their dynamic and Harlowe and Roden's bond too.😭 And I realized Roden never knew his real birthday before meeting Harlowe as the Avenian woman wouldn't know the exact date just that it's winter. So he deserved one.)
I will write for Tobias is because he is part of the main trio of the series. And writing Darius's one was because of the frozen fever episode and I wanted Jaron and Darius make up for the lost years of separation like that.
Anyway back to Mott. I need to know what Jaron does for Mott on his birthday?🤔😭 Maybe they I would write of Mott too as he is my favorite character next fo Jaron.
