I'M SORRY, BUT THIS IS FUCKIN HILARIOUS
THE WAY DEAN'S VOICE WAS SO SOFT AT THE BEGINNING, BUT WHEN HE REALIZES THAT IT'S REALLY JIMMY, HIS VOICE GOES WAY LOWER😭
AND WHEN CAS IS BACK HIS VOICE IS SOFT AGAIN, I CAN'T 😭
This was still one of the most daunting scenes to me, purely because when Jimmy started talking, I legit thought that was a whole different actor
Like, no. No that's not Castiel in ANY way
What did you do to him
Who is this actor
and it was still Misha fucking Collins
Once they established that Castiel could in fact just appear in a room without making a sound this scene became soo slutty. He rly was just putting on a show for the pretty hunter huh
they are the same btw <3
Alright, here’s my attempt at reuniting Castiel and Dean in Heaven—so that, after more than four years, I might finally begin to process this trauma and make peace with the sacrifice, longing, and unspoken words that never received the on-screen closure they deserved.
Castiel and Dean deserved a lot better and reuniting them in heaven like this is a great start.
Sometimes Dean saying Purgatory felt "pure" is used to invalidate that experience as traumatic, which clearly isn't supposed to be the message here. We see Dean's hypervigilence after he returns and how Sam notices it while not wanting to. We see Dean say Purgatory changed him (implying not for the better to Sam and to Benny). We can see that he's rough around the edges—having trouble comforting Kevin despite being the only person who cared enough to find and check up on him because he's spent the last year fighting for his life and having to let everything happen to him wash over him and just survive. Dean thinks Cas died in Purgatory. He reports he was perpetually trapped in 360 degree combat and we see that he can't relax. When he shows back up topside, he can't sleep or eat at first. He zones out. He and Benny both celebrate that they made it out.
Dean saying Purgatory felt "pure" isn't to say it wasn't traumatic or that he isn't overtly experiencing PTSD. It's that the weight of the world wasn't on his shoulders anymore. Dean spent all of season 7 suicidally depressed, drinking to the point Sam "joked" that alcohol was basically a vitamin to Dean at this point. The season started with Death blaming Dean for what Cas did—telling Dean it was his fault because he failed to figure out Death's incredibly unhelpful hints and stop his best friend from going nuclear. That one conversation (and then everything that piled on top) cut Dean so badly that he never fully recovered. Dean spent the season losing faith and trust, feeling hopeless and helpless, but like the whole world was his responsibility anyway... and there was nothing he could do to save it. He couldn't even save his own best friend. His brother was dying because of what his best friend did. His adoptive dad was killed. Every single time Dean indicated that he needed help he was brushed off or told to suck it up and he wanted to die. So yeah—when Dick was dead and Dean landed in Purgatory, despite the fact that Dean was actively living more trauma, he appreciated the simplicity. All he had to worry about was himself, Benny, and Cas. He didn't have to worry about cosmic beings blaming him for the state of the world. He didn't have to worry about Sam or some apocalypse looking on the horizon. All he had to worry about was living—and what a rush it must have been to realize that despite everything—he wanted to live—that he would fight and kill to survive—to keep being alive. So yeah—Purgatory felt pure. And that is SO sad when you think about it.
i don't think dean ever really thought that mary would go back to cutting the crusts off his sandwiches and singing him lullabies. i do think that he thought that with mary around he might have someone to help shoulder some of the burden he feels. finally, there's an adult in the room, someone who can take care of some of this (the state of their family but also the state of the world). and when he sees mary not only not taking on that responsibility but actively avoiding it? and not even recognizing that he's carrying it? yeah, i can see why he's upset.
when he tells mary he needs her to see him it's not just that he wants to be seen. it's that he wants his burdens to be seen. burdens that could have been hers, could have been john's, but were loaded onto his shoulders. burdens he's still carrying which he can never put down. and he forgives her. he would love for her to take some of that burden away from him, but all he really needs is for her to acknowledge that the burden exists and that he didn't deserve it.
#this!!! like. we’ve been hearing dean say since season two. TWO. that he is tired of it all and wants to lay down the burden #and i’m sure he’s been telling himself his whole life that that’s what his mom would want for him. even if dad didn’t. #even if sam still needed him. his mom would want him to lay the burden down. she never wanted that for him in the first place! #mom would be different from sam. from dad. but in the end she’s not! #she’s okay with turning a blind eye and letting dean handle things. #shes okay with him shouldering a burden so long as she doesn’t have to face it. #and also. when mary leaves. it does make me think about dark side of the moon. #and baby dean going it’s okay mommy. i still love you. i’ll never leave you. #zachariah voice: everyone you love leaves you sooner or later #and no one proved him wrong for fifteen straight seasons #sorry
@aliveboydean you have literally nothing to apologize for you're right and you should say it <3 he never got to lay the burden down. he carried it all with him to the end. no one proved him wrong. no one proved him wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!
whoever said famine didn't affect dean bc his hunger was for cas. im shaking the bars on my cell and screaming and eating my pillow.
he's not into lonely women in bars on valentines this year and he doesn't want the burger he orders. one of the first things he does in the episode is call cas and then he's with cas for the rest of it. so ;mwhdbfng.g um
anyway. um.
cowboys are frequently, secretly fond of each other
My brokebacknatural magnum opus because The Parallels™️ must be discussed 🤠💚💙
watch it on youtube
I feel like collectively we’ve gone a bit soft on Cas and have forgotten about how certifiably insane the dude is. He pushed Meg down into the holy fire and walked over her like a fucking bridge. He carved a banishing sigil into his own damn chest. He consumed the souls in purgatory and became god. My man is batshit. My man is hot. My man does NOT!! fuck!! around!!
He dug a bullet out of his flesh made of melted down Angel blade and shoved it in another Demons eye. He also deliberately crashed a car despite knowing even with a seatbelt he could die, just to kill another fallen Angel. He threw a Molotov cocktail at Michael. He exceedingly defied brainwashing/lobotomy by Naomi. This wasn’t as action based but he managed to trick Metatron into a villain monologue over Angel radio. He cut open another Angel just to take their grace and fought back.
He is unhinged.
i don't even remember where or when i saved this but i love it so much because it's like. i am not a shipper, i don't like romance in my shows. but you'd have to be fucking stupid to not realize that dean is in love with cas. literally all you need is to have eyes and have watched the show to know it's true.
Supernatural used to be hilarious actually because it established that the last night on earth was Dean's pick-up line and then they had Dean say it to Cas
thinking about how destiel first encounter is Dean stabbing Castiel in the heart and their last encounter is basically Castiel stabbing Dean in the heart (with facts)
HE KEPT IT
as reluctant as I am to praise anyone involved in the creation of supernatural I will give it to Jensen Ackles that you can see the exact moment in ahbl that dean stops doing the Goofy Big Brother routine (trying to keep Sam conscious) and it actually sets in that Sam is going to die
The microexpressions!
how ironic is it that Jody basically adopts Sam and Dean and then later adopts Alex and Claire. oh, the similarities between them all
you have Alex, who was a monster when we met her and Sam, who had demon blood in him. Alex was given a group of friends - a boyfriend - by someone who was wronged by her and later tried to kill her. and Sam, who was given a group of friends - a girlfriend - by someone who wanted to keep tabs on him to turn him into something worse. and both of them found this out in front of their loved ones. oh, and they both have something from their past, always coming and biting them in the ass again. oh, they both have school on Monday, too, can't forget that :)
you have Claire, who has so many daddy issues they can rival Dean's. both of their backgrounds are so, so similar, they really are just the same person in different fonts. what, Mary dies so John goes on this huge hunt and changes who he is to find her killer, and Jimmy gets possessed by an angel, leading Amelia to go on this huge hunt to find him and changing who she is as a person? and both John and Amelia die to protect their kid?
idk it's just a little ironic that Jody has these two boys who aren't always in her life, but she has these two girls who are so very similar to them that she does have every day of her life
also, Claire is gay??? if their backstories are so similar, should Dean not also b-(indistinct screaming, cars honking)
when you realize cas never got a chance to see dean mourn him. to see what his death did to dean. how it broke him completely. SHATTERED. he never saw dean's utter despair. anger. complete hopelessness. he only ever saw dean's joy when he came back. and so cas figured that his death simply didn't affect dean all that much. that dean could be happy with Cas gone. that Dean could go on. Move on. cas never understood that this joy, this hope, this smile on dean's face after he came back was ONLY BECAUSE HE CAME BACK. CAME BACK TO DEAN.
Cas was the REASON.
