A Tales of Symphonia thought...

Since I really can’t get over how ridiculous Raine’s and Genis’ Japanese names are (for the record: They’re “Refill” and “Genius”), I have come up with the headcanon that they’re actually old, Kharlan-Elfish names that are supposed to be written “Ri’ifil” and “Jeení’as”, meaning “Graceful Pride” and “Ambition”. The sound-system would even fit with the fictional language used in the first OVA Opening, “Almateria”, which I also personally believe to be in sung in Kharlan-Elfish/”The Language of the Angels”. 

It would definitely be more dignified than them literally being named “(to) refill” and “Genius”. >_>

Memories of Mithos [RP with indignantjudgment]

Genis sighed. This wasn’t a sigh of sadness though, it was a sigh of slight annoyance. He’d remembered that time he and the others had met Mithos as he was supposed to be.

“That sounds about right. We had to finish what they started. Now that I think about it, we did get to meet copies of them from 4000 years back in a dungeon once. Mithos in particular asked me some particularly difficult to answer questions before Martel stopped him. If our short interaction with them was anything to go by, she was a LOT like my sister.”

“D-Don’t say that!”

Though Emil’s voice was still Ratatosk’s, he actually stuttered while trying to cut of Genis in finishing this sentence.

“…Don’t. I don’t want to have to think of Martel whenever I meet Raine. It is bad enough that Colette and Zelos both have Mana so close to… hers…”

Emil was actually shaking a little. His hands were still in fists.

“Sorry. I got a little carried away”

Genis still didn’t know all that much about Martel as a person though. He thought about prying for a moment but decided against it. Angering Ratatosk was very low on his list of priorities after all.

Genis couldn’t help but sigh again. Just thinking about Mithos was painful enough. Talking about him dredged up quite a few memories laced with both good and bad parts.

“You make it sound like you traveled with him. Was he a friend of yours too?”

Emil hesitated to speak. These memories were just as painful to him as to Genis… Actually probably even more so.

“He… was my Summoner,” he admitted. “Him, Martel, Yuan and Kratos… They came to my tree when it was already dying and found me at the end of my power. But Mithos… He used his Mana to nurse me back to health. After that, he promised me to fix the world and restore my tree. So, we made a pact and I granted him the power to create the Derris Emblem… I traveled with them after that, as their Summon Spirit. Tenenbrae was keeping us company as well. It was an amazing journey. Back then, I felt as if the four of them could do anything. Like they could really change the world. However…”

…He paused before going on. 

“…He never kept his promise.”

“Well, as Mithos, he was a pretty cool guy. Though we didn’t really get to spend all that much time together. I’d like to think we were good friends though.“

Genis sighed.

“As Yggdrasil though, he was ruthless and generally not a good person. The years he spent without Martel really did a number on his sanity.”

“…”

As Genis talked, Emil tried to keep himself together, but he could feel his fingers curl up to fists against his will and his body tension up more and more, until a spike of heat rose up in him.

“Hmpf. That fool. He did always cling to her too much…”

There was deep spite in Emil’s voice, but also sadness.

“I kept telling him ‘Have some self-respect’ and ‘Stop relying on Martel for everything’, but he would just ignore me and continue raving about his sister. It was an annoying pain in the ass. I should have beat it out of him when I still had the chance…”

Despite the obvious anger in Emil’s - Ratatosk’s - words, the melancholy only continued to become more obvious.
