Buck was upset that he didn't realize Theo was his son by some soap opera-esque paternal sixth sense.
BUT
BUTT
HOWEVER
What about him being mostly unfazed by Theo's rambunctiousness? He just dove from one activity to the next, completely unbothered that the kid was a supercharged tsunami. There was an instant chemistry and connection there, subconsciously or not.
And when Buck saw the bodies of his friends being pulled out of the car, parental instinct took over immediately. He wasn't grieving his friends. He was immediately and intensely concerned about THEO. Of course, he'll grieve later (and did judging by the tissues next to him in the waiting room) but he shielded him from the sight of his parents' bodies, and immediately got him to the hospital.
Summary: Post 1.06's "The Cottage." David and Ilya work on a project together, and bond over past traumas. Implied/Referenced Child Abuse
Author's Note: I've been dying to write a David Hollander fic, and father's day was a great motivation. I don't really know David Hollander's backstory, so I invented one of my own.
Happy Father's Day, David!
Read on A03
David Hollander liked his life. His job was still challenging enough that working in his fifties didn’t feel like the last grueling miles of a marathon. His wife was just as gorgeous as she was infuriating. His son was a two-time Stanley Cup-winning hockey player, which was practically prince status in Canada. And more importantly, he was in love.
Sometimes, though, as he settled down to read a book or took a walk in the neighborhood, he could admit that he was a little bored. Since Shane had been drafted, and Yuna began managing his career full-time, David’s existence had become a little too dull and solitary, even for the man who admired schedules, routines, and balance.
So when his son’s boyfriend called to ask for his help with a project while Shane was out of town filming an ad campaign, he was thrilled to have the company for a weekend.
He tidied up his woodshop.
He bought and chilled a bottle of Beluga Noble.
He found a new pasta recipe that included bacon and cheese (Ilya didn’t meticulously track his calories like Shane and Yuna, so David would indulge a bit).
He hummed while he vacuumed the living room, checking the clock every few minutes.
“If you change into a new outfit, I’m going to start getting jealous,” Yuna said with an air of fond exasperation as she paged through a magazine in the armchair.
“I want to get to know my son’s boyfriend, that’s all.” David fluffed with pillows with enthusiasm. “He asked me to do something with him. It’s a big deal, Yuna.”
