light has autism (i hc p much all of the wammy's kids and both yagami siblings as autistic) but when he was a kid, he got scolded for expressing himself constantly. the japanese justice system was his first special interest, and he would go on longwinded tangents abt it whenever anyone asked what his dad did. eventually, he learned it was easier to be quiet than to make noise, even if he craved attention. and, over time, he developed his second spin: psych/sociology, which helped him maneuver through the world.
light feels different on a fundamental level, but rationally he knows hes a lot better than most people at most things. in order to make sense of the two, he figured he must be above most humans, even though he has deeply rooted insecurities abt being perceived as different.
