Lady Castratta, of Detroit metro area fame, is a very funny and charmingly outspoken lady. I had the pleasure of shooting her one day earlier this summer and that was definitely one of the more comedic shoots I have ever done. Thank God for tripods so I could still get a clear photo. :)

We will be seeing snow pretty soon, but hopefully you will all be in good cheer like my lovely model Lorelei Skye!

I was delighted to find out that this photo won an Honorable Mention in the International Photography Awards for this year in the "Editorial-other" category.

Being new isnt easy.
Being a newb photographer in a well-established pool of talent is not an easy thing. It was only last year when I couldn’t get anybody to stand in front of my lens unless they were a friend of mine or someone who owed me a favor. Signing up for local group shoots was discouraging since my email requests to many models to work with them were met with silence. I get it….when you are new, no one wants to take a chance because they don’t want to waste their time. It’s hard to see the capabilities of a photographer when they have nothing to show you yet. Believe me, I get it. So, I embraced each opportunity I had by practicing, reading a lot of camera techie stuff, working with a couple of MUA’s for ideas they had, doing some makeup, attending some learning seminars, and styling some of my shoots. This allowed me to practice getting proficient with my gear AND give the models/MUAH’s something well-exposed, well-lit, and in-focus that we all could enjoy. It also meant that my work is quite literally, “all over the place” in terms of not focusing on one particular genre. My exact thought was “I wonder what will happen if I do this….” And next thing you know, there was a photo shoot I designed to test that exact thing, whether it was testing a new light, trying a photoshop technique that I read about, or testing the capabilities of a new lens. Everything I did was designed to LEARN. Sometimes things worked, sometimes they didn’t. But I learned, and was able to establish myself among my immediate community that I will work hard for you if we work together. The ones that took a chance were always delighted with the results which made me happy. I started submitting some work to art shows and even got a few photos published as well. Cool! You can’t have successes without some failures though. As much as it sucks to get work rejected, it also lets me know which styles I should be focusing on. Recent rejections from things like the Dark Beauty/Gothic Beauty crowd as well as the local Detroit Damned art show tell me that I need to focus elsewhere. I will never be that “dark photographer” like some of my friends successfully are, and that’s ok. I celebrate other successes like having had my work accepted twice last year to juried shows at Scarab Club by people like Kyohei Abe & Tim Van Laar, or the recent International Photography award I was notified about. So there is an audience for my artistic/technical vision, and that’s one lesson I take away from this past year. Going forward, it is time to work on some new lessons and start to focus on the main reason I picked up the camera in the first place. However, focusing on my long term goals also means trying to break into a different group of people – a more Fashion/editorial group of people - so I am back at square one, trying to get established once again. If it is meant to be, it will be.
Rainy Day! And where I live, the windy struggle is very real, LOL.

Something a little darker than what I typically shoot, but with October fast-approaching, I thought it might be kinda fun. Hope you all are having a good start to your Fall season too!

Here is one more beautiful landscape I would like to share with you all, this time of the Mackinaw Bridge. It seems wherever I go, I can't stay away from my camera, but it's not a bad thing. :)
And now for something completely different: I like to occasionally shoot landscapes, and this was the first time I tried to capture a sunset. This one was taken near Desbarats, Ontario, Canada. Afterall.....we working folks have to take a vacation once in a while, don't we? ;)

Occasionally, I like to do old fashioned sets, like these photos I did with my friend Erin. :)

It's fun to be a kid! This is Jously, and she is a true delight. I have also had the pleasure of photographing her mother, Xaina, the long haired natural red head whose photos I have posted previously
Welcome to my online photo blog!
Hi everyone and thanks for visiting!
I have been photographing on & off throughout my life, but didn't get serious about it until about a year ago.
When I was growing up, my mom always handed me the camera because she didn't like the "complexity" of using a point & shoot camera. As a young child, I figured out pretty quickly that I wasn't getting the images out of the camera the way that I pictured them in my mind. Getting back developed photos was usually very disappointing.
As an adult, I finally realized that the only way I was ever going to get the photos I wanted was to actually get a better camera & take a class on how to use it so I could work on getting the photos that were already in my head. I took a few classes at www.mpw.com with Bryce Denison (highly recommended & he is a GREAT teacher), and have spent a lot of time practicing my skills. Every photo you see is me trying various techniques. This summer was particularly good since I have had plenty of people to practice my skills with (thanks to all of you who have modeled for me or worked with me to create photos!)!
One thing you will notice is that all my models are clothed. That ensures that I can always freely share my work online, without any community issues, and style of photography ties directly into my love of couture and beautiful styling. So enjoy, share, and feel free to visit often!
