"Shion." ; NANARIN FIC, CHAPTER 1 - SAVIOR.
savior
/ˈsāvyər/
a person who saves someone or something (especially a country or cause) from danger.
It was a few days after Nanase had enrolled for his new school; You see, after he had finished up his studies in his former school- he had changed schools due to his grandmother's advice. And so now, he was in a different school just to study his high-school years in; No fuss, but he had to relearn how to make friends again, ever since the change. It wasn't too hard either way for him the moment he had to enter the doors of the school. This took place during Summer- closest to either June or July, and Nanase had minded his own business during his days in school, or simply talking to newfound friends with a sing-song tone which everyone and himself had enjoyed. The sounds of chatter, amuse- or even /drama/ that surfaced always gave Nanase a sort of ease knowing this school he got into was better than last.
His routine was simply formatted as is; Wake up at 5:30 AM, Take a Hot Shower, Make Breakfast + Eat it, go to a Konbini to buy food for later, take a few shortcuts and cross the pedestrian lane to get to School. Simple as is to get to his school - It wasn't too hard to not follow, nor was it just plain out boring. It was just how Nanase liked it; Simple yet a little challenging, that's probably because of the Konbini sector, he's a bit of an indecisive guy when it comes to food he wants to bring to school after all. It wasn't often for him to be like that either way — as his usual snacks he bought at the Konbini were usually onigiri wraps or pocky. He didn't mind the bias stuff.
However, his normal routine of going to school will have a certain change; All because of one encounter on a desolate street on a Wednesday morning- it was a sunny day after all, the breeze was cooling for Nanase's own skin as sweat trickled down the sides of his hair whilst he slinged his school bag on his shoulder. He wasn't running late, not at all, it was early in the morning as the sun was now surprisingly burning hot. It could even be able to fry an egg if he were in the western side of this world, but Nanase shrugged it off for the time being- as he were to begin to zone out as the traffic lights flashed about. He couldn't really find himself paying attention to those.
The lights of the traffic were very confusing at best, so Nanase just had to wait patiently this time around. Usually, he was lucky that the pedestrian lane light had turned green the moment he got to the lane's starting area- which always brought a smile to his face. But unluckily for him, the light was red. Bummer, no? "..Craaapp.. How long will this take?" He muttered under his breath, trying to shield his eyes from the sun. It was bright as hell- boy, maybe he'd become a pancake or just melted white chocolate due to this- jesus. Due to the sun, he wasn't able to.. exactly- pay attention once more? Two hassles, choose one, you'd guess. "Even the sun is kinda hot, even when I'm all set.. gaaahh.." He sighed, as the light turned green for the lane, he took the first step upon the road.
As he trailed his way to the next pedestrian lane (as there were two to get to school), he hadn't taken notice a driver was speeding their way through traffic; and right at a bliss of a moment- Nanase had turned and saw the car. Before he could even react properly, he felt something- no, someone grab at him and drag him to the next stop area. Nanase tumbled lightly as he held onto one of the closest poles (for the lights ifykwim) as he held his head. What was.. that? What even- happened? All Nanase knew was that a driver was speeding and almost hit him, but then some stranger grabbed him by the collar.
Now that?
That was weird!
Weird as hell, you know!-
I mean, Nanase couldn't..
..Exactly, know who it was?
That is, before the stranger came by.
They asked him, voice hollow and husk; they were wearing the same school attire, Nanase could point that out- but the slight difference between the two was that the individual had a facemask on, seemingly covering their mouth and nose, but not covering their eyes nor their hair. It was a soft deep green (Nanase guessed it was green), covering his eyes a slight bit; his eyes slightly had a contrast, though it was a tad difficult to notice. “Ahhh.. Uhhh..” Nanase was looking down; absolutely dazed. “I’m ‘kay!- I jus’ wanted to thank ya for-“
. . .
Right as when Nanase looked right back up-
-The man was gone.
Where did he even go? Nanase thought to himself.
“-savin’.. ..me? Eh? Where did he?-“ Nanase then felt something in his hand; opening his palm, there was a Shion. Shion’s were commonly associated for some people, though Nanase never really knew why. Maybe it comes with its symbolism? Birth? Style? He couldn’t think of anything. Just pure blanked out; Though, he knew that he could keep the Shion to himself — He did as said, and walked to school. But as he walked, Nanase was thinking to himself; eyes locked onto the school entrance as his mind began to run like a train.
‘Who was that?’ He thought; as he entered the premises of his school, only to encounter a familiar friend of his, a 2nd year at best. “Oh!- Isagi-san! Heya!” Nanase waved, a grin on his face as he held the strap of his bag; Isagi in turn waved right back at him. “Nana! Right on time! I was just looking for yo- Oh?” He cut himself off, pointing at the Shion in Nanase’s palm. “What’s that you got there?” Isagi asked; curiosity in his voice. “Ahhh- It’s-ah Shion! Atleast, I think ‘ey call em.” The other grinned to himself, adding onto his statement. “I got tha flower from.. sum’ stranger.” He finished. “A stranger? Like, where? Where did you encounter them dude?” The other elbowed him with a little curiosity but a smile on his face as if a way to tease the other one.
“At the pedestrian lane, ya know- the one near the school’s entrance?” Nanase perked up; keeping the flower in his ID as he rubbed the back of his nape. “The stranger.. He kinda looked nice.” He added, smiling a little before fixing his bag strap. “What did the guy look like? And dude, can’t be assuming gender.” The 2nd Year now had his hand on his hip. “Green hair.. Like, aaahhh.. deep green? An’ he got em underlashes an’ turquoise eyes.” Nanase gestured out, trying to think of something to say. “No clue who that is, do ya know?” He asked, looking at his watch and back to Isagi. “Not much of a clue yet, you do know it’s only been a few weeks since 1st day, remember?” He sighed, chuckling as he ruffled Nanase’s hair, before returning to his casual poise. “Ya,yah. I know.” The other just had a dumbfounded grin.
Despite that, he checked his watch once again before proceeding to look around for his classroom. “I gotta get goin, Isagi-san. I’ll- uhhh.. see ya later at break!” Nanase smiled as he trailed off from his original spot; making a run for it to his class. However, the thought was still lingering in his mind. Who was that student? Who was that man who saved his life on the road? He never even had a clue, nor did he.. ..Wait where even is he.
Nanase?
Are you there?
You need to find your—
As predicted; Nanase had gotten lost by complete accident all because he was thinking about that guy who gave him a Shion although Nanase was the one who was meant to give him something because that stranger saved him from deaths grasp. But now that he thinks about it; should he just call that stranger ‘Shion’? Maybe he should do that. Actually- at this moment, he should definitely focus on the task at hand, definitely because he got lost like an idiot. No use; maybe he’ll just have to ask for directions again like the first day all over again—
“Lost?”
A familiar voice rang in Nanase’s ear. It was.. Shion! Same looks, just with his own messenger bag, Nanase could guess. “Yeah!- Uh, do ya remember where Class A is? I don’.. kinda remember.” He let out an embarrassed sigh, looking to the masked man. “It’s not far, I can locate the class for you.” The latter had a slightly stoic voice, though seemingly dead serious with the smaller one. “I’d appreciate it!- Thank ya lots..” Nanase bowed slightly to the man, though in turn he simply tapped the other at his back as he sighed. “No need for formalities, let’s get going.” ‘Shion’ let out another sigh, as he began to walk- Nanase perked up and followed alongside them, as if he were a lost puppy.
Moments after, they had reached Class A — It was pretty empty as majority of the class usually came in a while later; making Nanase usually very early. Nanase then turned to bow to the other, a smile on his face as if he was bowing to a God. “Thank ya- Thank ya so much!- I coulda gotten a lil too lost, haha!-“ He was awkward, but not too awkward; after all, this is a stranger their talking to. “Tsk. Just go inside already, no need for delays.” The other shook his head as he entered…
The classroom location,
Shion volunteering to help,
and the guidance to the room..
Wait a darn second..
……
SO THAT EXPLAINS HOW HE KNEW THE CLASSROOM?!—
Okay, that’s just new- He didn’t know this guy but he was in the same class the entire time? Jesus!- This is like an absolute coincidence!!- But before he could enter, Nanase and ‘Shion’ could hear a roar from the hallway. Quick as ever, ‘Shion’ dragged the other into the classroom; accidentally spinning the boy as the two were flat on the wall, a small space from eachother as a few girls passed the classroom. They seemed to be talking about some guy in the school; a transferee at best. Nanase, however- like always was never informed about that. Little guy never had the time to exactly catch up with news; but right now, this was sudden. “Whuh!?- Wha’ was’hat (was that) for?!-“ The country boy slightly yelled as the two backed away from the wall. “Lukewarm idiots,” He sighed, huffing into his face-mask; definitely pissed. “do they know how to mind their own business running around?” They shook their head once more.
“Nay.. I don’t think they kno’.” Nanase shrugged, hell- even he didn’t know anything about that. Absolutely CLUELESS. “Whatever.” He shrugged, as he sat closest to the window; but not easy to spot through the door. Nanase could pinpoint his chair was.. oh wow. It was just right beside his. What a coincidence.. So Nanase plopped right beside the man. “What are you doing?” The man pointed out. “I ain’t doin’ nuthin’..” Nanase was confused for the love of god. poor guy. “No, I mean like.. Why on earth are you sitting right beside me?” He flicked Nanase’s shoulder; with the smaller one yelping slightly in turn. “This.. is my seat- Yer like, my seatmate, I think.” Nanase shrugged, before simply adding to his statement. “Besides, if ya wanna talk ya can just face me or flick me on tha shoulder.” He smiled in turn, though the latter scoffed and looked away; Nanase didn’t mind, however.
As the time passed and classes took their time for each consecutive lessons, Nanase took a few glances at his new seatmate- He seemed to be occupied in his world, though. It wasn’t all day for the fact their schedule was always a half day; But when break time came around, Nanase took the chance to talk to Hiori and Isagi, fellow 2nd years he had met a while back. It was just by a simple encounter, but hey, they get along well.. ..a tad too well.
“Oi! Nana! Sit down with us.” Hiori called, as Nanase had entered immediately into the cafeteria once their break surfaced for the day. “Comin’!” He chirped along, a grin on his face as he sat infront of Hiori. “Where’s Isagi-san?” The younger one asked, curiosity laced in his tone. “Oh, he’s tryna find Meguru, ya kno’? Bachira?” Hiori gestured, drumming the table lightly with his fingers as Nanase thought for a bit. “Ya mean his best friend? Didn’t he get.. uhh.. suspended once?” Nanase pointed out, raising a brow as he drank some probiotic (he was forced to try it moments before). “Oh? Nah, that was that otha guy, ya know, mister spikehead?” He gestured, though Nanase was confused. “Kara-san? (refer to Karasu)” Nanase asked. “No- the other one.” Hiori shook his head. “..I donno.” Shrugs came from Nanase, once again. “..Oh yeh. Ya don’ kno’ him.” That’s a poor realization; that’s certain enough. Though Hiori spoke up once more. “Kunigami, guy got suspended because of Meguru.” He took a sip from his bottomless iced tea. “Heard they got into a play fight and boom, tha’ happened.” Nanase was just nodding as he talked by the way; though, Hiori noticed something. “There’s a Shion on yer head by the way, been there since earlier. I jus’ didn’t tell ya.” The blue haired boy lightly chuckled, pointing to his head. “Ah!?- Really?”
Right as he said that, Nanase reached for his head as he grabbed another Shion like Hiori had pointed out. Was it from that guy again? He wasn’t all too sure, but once he had gathered enough of these, maybe he could make something out of it. “Ahhh.. I coul’ make sumthin’ nice if I had more of these.” He lightly brushed the center of it, as he kept the flower once more. “How many ya got, Nana?” The other asked. “Two now, I think!” Nanase just had a dumbfounded grin on his face - could simply be fate for him either way. “Hah, ya could probably put em in yer ID.” The cool head gestured to Nanase’s stray ID. “Seems neat.” They smiled, before offering a fruit sando to Nanase. “Want one?” He reached out as Nanase took it and obviously; took the first bite. “Watcha put in this? It’s tasty!-“
“Just sum’ strawberries, grapes- though I did put mango.. I think.” Hiori lightly shrugged, taking a bite out of his own sando with a smirk tugged at his lips as he had thought of something. “Say, Nana.” He hummed, eyebrows lifting up and down as he was definitely plotting something Nanase was completely oblivious to. “mm.. Yeh?” He raised a brow. “Wanna bet something when Isagi comes? I think he found Meguru already.” The cool-head took one last bite out of his sando, gazing over to the cafeteria entrance. “Yah- Shure!” Nanase was still eating and chewing the sando, just so you know. And right as he finished, Isagi rushed in with Bachira chasing him like a child.
“HIORI!!— NANASE!!— HEEEELLLPPPP!!!!!!”
Isagi yelled, running over to the table the two were at before being mauled by Bachira. “Hehe!~ Caught ya!” Bachira grinned, before looking to the other two as he waved like a joyous child. “Hi there!!- Don’t mind us~” Though Nanase could definitely hear Isagi pleading for help as he was being crushed by the other male. “Uhm.. Meguru-san, ya should..” Nanase gestured for a moment. “..get off Isagi-san. I think he ain’t breathin’ well.” You could genuinely tell he was worried about his own friend, if he had to make a word out or two. "Oh? Really?" Bachira looked down to Isagi; who was completely either suffocating or somehow just on the brink of death. "Whoops!" He then simply got off, giving Isagi time to get up as he huffed for air- sitting beside Hiori as leaned forward to ask Nanase something.
Though- Hiori leaned to Isagi's side, whispering to him something before pushing him back to his casual position. "So, Nana- About that guy you met on the pedestrian lane- any clue about his name?" Isagi asked, cocking a slight brow. "Crap.. Not yet, I haven't seen the guy before neitha!-" He exclaimed- head now on the table as Bachira lightly nudged him. "I think he's a transferee guys, I don't knoooww." Bachira spat out- chuckling to himself. "He does kinda look like one." Hiori pointed out, lightly tapping Nanase. "I think he was there when you got sick that one day, Nanase." Though, Hiori could be right; Nanase did go absent that one day last week due to his fever, hell, even Isagi was going to fight the sickness if he could just for their little guy. But that would be no use, after all, Isagi and Hiori were only updated on Nanase's absence during their break. "..Ack. I think yer right." He facepalmed- tugging at his headband as he sighed. "This is gonna be hard, an' it ain't ever gonna become an easy feat." It was no joke that whenever Nanase misses out on something, he'd sometimes end up shying away from asking about it, as it feels embarrassing to him to bother asking about something like a new student- or just a program. "Well, you could try the next day-" Isagi was then cut off by Bachira, chirping aloud.
..Was that even going to be helpful in the long run?
"Bachira, I don't think they'll last till next month."
"Really?"
"Yes, Really."
"Awh."
Hiori and Nanase let out a heart-felt chuckle as the bell rang and they all bid their goodbyes. Though- Nanase had to run back to the classroom which, of course, was half empty. People were minding their business, as Nanase scanned the room and had taken notice to his seatmate once more. He was quiet, seemingly dazed as he stared out the window. The country boy couldn't help but chuckle to himself; why was his seatmate, 'Shion' like this? Ah, whatever. He shouldn't bother too much, as he sat beside his seatmate as a voice suddenly perked up from his side. "You're back?" The voice asked, and it was no other than his own seatmate. "Ah- Yeh! I jus' took a detour to get back 'ere, ain't too far." Nanase shrugged his shoulders lightly with a grin on his face as he hummed, drumming his fingers lightly on the table. "Soo.. How are ya holdin' up here?" He asked, curiosity laced up in his tone. Though, the latter was quiet. "..Fine." The other spoke, as Nanase's smile was bright - though the country boy could notice the other's gaze on him. "Well, that's great!- Haha, I kno' the class ain't the best but it's 'kay." He shrugged, smiling still. "I bet we'll be neat friends, yah?" Nanase was.. of course, like that; So friendly. He wanted to befriend anyone he met at this point it was genuinely terrifying, and you know he's terrifying when the introverted students actually get to befriend him. "..Tsk. Waste of time." They scoffed, though Nanase let out a stifled chuckle. "Well, whateva ya say." He hummed as the rest of the students came back inside the classroom; and another Shion was right beside his arm as he simply kept it, before averting his attention to the front.
And thus, Class went on like usual.
From subject, to subject — Nanase's gaze landed on many people, most especially 'Shion'. Nobody had really mentioned his name yet, though right now, that's what Nanase is aiming for; find out the name of 'Shion'. Like, the serious name. He was pretty, of course, but that wasn't his point just yet. Right now, he doesn't wanna be talking to him and using the name 'Shion' like an actual idiot; ah, curses.. But he'll try, and try till it's the final chance he gets. He really wants to use up every chance he gets to benefit himself and others, doesn't he?
..Just who even is 'Shion'?
